Though it is important to know where the first shot from a cold bore will go, it's just as important to know where the following shots will go. Example: At the crack of legal shooting time, you shoot a coyote. Then at 10 AM you get your chance at a huge 10 point buck at a distance. Your confidence in your shot will be much higher if you know where your fouled bore shots will go.

The CEO of Lockton told the NRA they could no longer be involved with any NRA sponsored programs because that would put their NY State insurance license in jeopardy. They had to settle for a 7 million dollar fine to get NY to leave them alone and flee the state without retaliation by Cuomo. Threatening the use of political regulatory power to coerce compliance with the Governor's agenda is totally illegal. When this type of thing goes unpunished, you know we are no longer living in a free society.

According to the department, the program “unlawfully provided liability insurance to gun owners for acts of intentional wrongdoing." (This is not true and should be reason enough for Cuomo to be sued.) “As the primary regulator of insurance companies and state-chartered banks doing business in New York, it is incumbent upon the Department of Financial Services to supervise and guide regulated entities to mitigate the risks to their safety and soundness that may derive from a variety of sources, including reputational risk. It is equally as important that DFS enforce New York law and take appropriate enforcement action when necessary to protect consumers and ensure the integrity of our financial markets. As part of the Department’s ongoing investigation, DFS’s consent orders with both Lockton and Chubb addressed the unlicensed and unlawful activity connected with the NRA’s “Carry Guard” program, which unlawfully provided liability insurance to gun owners for acts of intentional wrongdoing. The Department will not stand down from its mandate to enforce New York law." Carry Guard never offered coverage for "intentional wrongdoing".

Today's mail brought a letter from my gun insurance company telling me my policy would be cancelled and not renewed when it ends in a month. It only covers theft of my guns. It was a policy offered through the NRA, but is carried by a private company called Lockton Affinity. The letter stated the coverage can no longer be offered in NY state. In reality, the coverage can be bought in NY state as long as it has nothing to do with the NRA. Any other carrier of firearms theft insurance also seems to be more expensive. Cuomo attacked the NRA for offering it's Carry Guard insurance, which protects concealed carriers involved in lawful self defense shooting cases. He outlawed that coverage calling it "murder insurance". But it is obvious from the above that he is really singling out the NRA in his attempt to financially cripple them in NY. According to the NY Dept of Financial Services, the program “unlawfully provided liability insurance to gun owners for acts of intentional wrongdoing." This is blatantly false, as it never offered coverage for anything except legal fees when you are prosecuted for using a firearm in a justified legal shooting. It covered nothing if the shooting was illegal. How can it be legal to ban firearms theft insurance from any one provider, while still allowing it from others the Governor endorses? That seems to be something that would be completely outside the scope of his executive authority, as well as unconstitutional. This is why he's being sued. I'm sure he will lose too, and NY taxpayers will be left with the bill for millions in legal fees. Cuomo obviously has no quarrel with spending taxpayer funds to pursue his leftist utopian dream.

No, the CarryGuard protection you are referring to is no longer allowed in NY state, but the other policies offered by the NRA that pay for the theft of your firearms, or for an accident with your firearms, are also no longer legal in NY state, but only if they are NRA products. Other firms can still offer these things, but they are usually not as competitively priced. Cuomo's is attacking the NRA directly with this executive order and that is what makes it illegal. My policy covering theft of my firearms will be cancelled in a month according to a letter I got yesterday. It was offered by the NRA but is carried by a private insurance company. Apparently, Cuomo has made threats against the insurance companies working with NRA members and they stand to lose big time if they do any type of business with the NRA for it's members benefit. I'm not sure of the status of the free coverage for theft or injury that comes with NRA membership. That may be void in NY state also at this time. There is a lawsuit currently against Cuomo for this regulatory overreach, which amounts to extortion, and is way out of the scope of his elected authority. I'm sure he will lose the case and NY taxpayers will be on the hook for millions in court costs. Cuomo couldn't care less about wasting tax dollars to push his leftist dreams of utopia.

Still getting the job done with my original ML. A T/C Hawken cap lock built from a kit in .45 caliber. Iron sights. Loading a T/C Maxi-Hunter bullet over a measured 90 grain by volume Pyrodex charge. The set trigger puts them into a 2" group at 100 yards and has been doing so for decades. It's the bottom one. The others are never hunted.

for closer range applications, but far more drop in elevation, velocity and energy at 400 or more yards.

That would be what they call the .375 Ruger.

I drive through there often. I'm further out on Rt 28 near Bovina.

I've seen a few of your earlier videos on YouTube. What public hunting area are you using?

The DAKS have the acreage, but not the forage, to support a large Elk herd. Elk consume a lot of food, especially in very cold climates.

They are out of control in many areas of Europe where the weather, terrain and hunting pressure is very much like NY state. They destroy habitats and overwhelm other animal species where they thrive. I, for one, never want to see them in NY state.
-
If they are ever brought into NY state, they will only be thriving in a few concentrated areas. NY has lost a lot of it's viable Elk habitat over the years. They would need lots of help for decades to establish a huntable population here. I'm sure any permits would be by lottery with slim chances to win. PA has a lot of problems with the Elk in populated areas. They damage houses and farms and are road hazards too. It would be nice to have them in NY if they were self sustaining, but if the PA case is any indication, that won't be the case.

212 live dropping down to 165 dressed seems excessive. I doubt the guts weigh over 30 pounds in a 200 pound deer. If so my last deer weighed 160 dressed and must have been over 200. I estimated only 180.

A few "bookshelves" have become "bulletshelves".

Maybe the youth needs a shotgun rather than a rifle. No small game or duck hunting done?
-
Get a .257 Roberts or a .250-3000 and kill two birds with one stone.

Seems a small set of mirrors clipped to the hat visor would be good. Ones that work like those on a motorcycle's handlebars, but small enough to clip to the hat visor.
-
So how many different ways are there to field dress a deer?

I'll bet many guys here could actually do surgery in an emergency if they had to. A few might be better off sticking to autopsies.
