  1. All questions answered: https://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/wheels-tires-brakes-suspension.81/ But, you're fine. I'm replacing my OEM tires on my OB this year because they are pretty much garbage. I have 18" wheels and will probably drop down to 17" and a beefier tire. I put Falken Wildpeaks on my truck and quite like them.
  2. My mistake. I just default to fly. The nice thing about a fly rod on a small creel is that you rarely need to false cast. It's more stream load and little flicks upstream. Good luck.
  3. Depends on budget. I will say that I've never had an an issue with an 8.5' or 9' rod on a small stream, but if I need to go smaller I use a Redington CT 7.5' 2wt or a Cabelas 6.5' 4wt fibreglass. Neither would be considered fast.
  4. I reached out to an artist I greatly admire and asked him to write an article on his process. Steven runs an inn near Hunter Mt. and his artwork is seen the world over. He just finished a series of paintings for Jimmy Kimmel’s new lodge. https://www.gothamcanoe.com/painting-the-elusive-brook-trout/
  5. Wow. I picked up a signed copy two years ago for $12. I think if you keep your eyes open, you can find a deal. The one to look for is the special edition with the slipcover that includes three of Mary's flies. I discovered one Sept day when I came across three bear hunters.
  6. In case anyone is wondering, we're talking about the Ken Lockwood Gorge in NJ. There are NO river gorges in NY with trout. None at all. Just keep driving.
  7. There's something about the way the light leaves the gorge that makes it very spooky. To get to where I like to fish is a good 30 minute hike across and down - partly on trails, mostly not - so unless it's a weekend you're not going to see anyone. Because the only open sky is above the river, you get tricked into thinking that it's earlier and you have enough light to make it back. Step into the woods, however, and it's pitch black. You always have a feeling you're being watched. Like by cougars. And I'm a sissy.
  8. Yes, the Schoharie. And neighbouring streams. You have to earn the fish you catch in the gorge with that walk back through the dark woods to the car. I've never been so freaked out in the woods as the night I stayed on the river until nightfall.
  9. Done. So far, I've lost five pounds, had hair grow back on my head and added an inch to my height. I may go back for another shot tomorrow.
  10. I don't disagree but I think there's a difference between media professionals and random people when it comes to making off-the-cuff conversation fascinating. I found it tough to listen to at times.
  11. I still like the show and I'm sure he's a decent enough guy, but sometimes success screws people up if for no other reason than there's a lot of pressure to always deliver. What's the podcast? I did two hour long Catskills shows and found drinking before really helped. Okay, boomer. Basically, it's just talk radio but streamed so you can listen at any time. Just click any of these links and you're off: https://www.themeateater.com/listen/meateater
  12. Yes. I enjoyed the first book more as it gave me insight into the region from the 1500's. He also goes into the tribs where all the action was once the sports started coming up. It is crazy to think that a couple of guys could pull out 1200 trout from a stream in a weekend. And most would go to waste.
  13. I find Meateater really dull when it's just a group of guys talking. They just don't seem that clever. It's weird as I enjoy Rinella's writing and show. Off topic, but something I've been enjoying lately is "SmartLess" with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett. In each episode, one of them surprises the other two with a mystery guest. These guys are funny and the episodes are under an hour so easy to digest.
  14. You'll enjoy it. Along the same lines is Ed's book: While on the surface it's a book focussed on trout fishing, it really operates as a history of the Catskills. Fascinating book.
  15. The Hunting Collective - I hate the opening banter but find the interviews pretty interesting. Kifaru Cast - no nonsense and gets to the point. Project Upland - all things birdy. Anchored with April Vokey - mostly fishing but does get into hunting and some general outdoorsy stuff.
  16. Oldest family-run fly shop in the country. This book is worth a read:
  17. As I see it, Clint isn't whining about anything. Grouse is. Or attempting to make a joke. I know people who worked with Clint. He's very cool and humble, and takes care of his own stuff. Part of the joy of living in a place like Carmel (where he's probably not the richest cat in town) is that you can go grocery shopping and nobody cares.
  18. I was going to bring her up. It was my argument for not giving ancestry.com my saliva.
  19. HuntingNY ... is there anything it can’t do!
  20. When I was looking, my very limited research showed that not only don't they protect at speed, they may actually cause more damage. Most people go for a steel bumper instead, which obviously is more costly, heavier, and may need a beefier front suspension.
