  1. I read a thread on another site that questioned if you knew what worked and what didn’t in your survival pack. So today I went through my stuff(I’m still adding)and decided to start with the fire starting gear. Which consisted of two bic lighters(no need to test) two ferro rods a magnesium stick and piece of hacksaw blade a lens from an old scope and uco stormproof matches. Cotton balls smeared with Vaseline vacuum sealed in a bag. The ferro rods where a coghlan’s which came apart and a no name I picked up at a hunting show. Both throw good sparks with the hacksaw blade and my buck 102 and a cheap Chinese life one of my brothers gave me. I was surprised that the kabar mariner knife didn’t work. The lens was a Waste if time. I sat there trying all kinds of kindle nothing lit. The matches worked great. I even dipped one in water and it relit. So after today I think I’m set with fire starting. I might try a magnifier. As far a water purification I know my sawyer works because I use it all the time. Whistle and mirror are good. Extra compass. 550 cord. It’s to hot to try the space blankets right now. I know I’m missing a bunch of gear, but I never had to carry a survival pack hunting on Long Island. Now I’m up in the ADK’s I won’t go in without one. So what’s in you pack and does it work??? Let’s hear and see it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. What do you see that makes you think it’s still alive or just died??? It was pretty stiff and with the heat I didn’t want to chance it. But would’ve taken it if I seen it get hit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. If that thing would’ve twitched a little it would’ve been heading for the meat hook. It was stiff. I missed out on a doe a few nights ago the lady hit it in the head so I want to see if she was ok and tell her there was nothing she could’ve done. When I turned around a pick truck ran the deer over twisting it up. There’s no shame in my game when it comes to that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. This is how we know it’s one of the new people that moved in from up Island. Everyone else knows John is the metal guy you leave it by his fence and he takes care of it when he gets home. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. The problem down here is no one minds there own f@#%'n business.Driving around here on long island is out of control. If people paid more attention to what's going on in front of them instead trying to control what's behind them it would move a lot smoother around here.My neighbor has been a scrap metal guy for the 18 years I lived here. The other day he came over and said someone call the town on him for having a messy yard??? he has a stockade fence around it there's no way to see in there. This guy would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I can't wait to get the hell out of here!!!!
  7. Never mind “bs” from westchester having his gf’s number. I think it hilarious bionic fell asleep at Adam Sandler’s comedy show sorry up at my place with no t.v gets like a Sandler show!!!
  8. Thanks guys I cut it down to 6” there was a bunch of radish and some clover.
  9. Do you mow the food plots? Mine is a little throw and grow with mostly grass, clover and radish. It’s about knee high right now. The ones back in the woods don’t seem to be doing anything, but that happens every year in the fall they kick in.
  10. Cedar waxwings are beautiful birds. I only saw them once at my house upstate. I’m not sure if they where just passing threw or nest up there.
  11. Bunch of them around on Long Island.
  12. You'd think the states would get together and figure something out.I was fishing on the beach last week and one bit me hard enough to feel it.It's to the point you can't enjoy the outdoors here on long island.
  13. I've used them for years with mixed results.Didn't have any luck with the buck decoy. The doe decoys definitely catch there interest both bucks and does.I started out with a cardboard set then picked up a Montana doe decoy. It's a coil spring that folds up and fits in my backpack. The only real problem I've had is when they come around to the thin side[hopefully this makes sense] and the decoy disappears some of them bolt.I've been wanting to get another decoy and put them so that doesn't happen. Sent is another problem they used to sell estrus sent wafers the worked great but I can't find them anymore.A little pee on a tree works. This is the one I have.It fold up to the size of a frisbee.

  18. sorry to hear we've been dealing with this nasty disease for a few years with my father[77yrs old] it's brutal watching a man I love and respect deteriorate. He kept falling and each time it seemed to make thing worse. We finally had to put him in a nursing home for his own safety. My mom past away last year and he already forgot who she was.At first I got mad but now understand it's the nature of the beast.I was going up to see him every day but it's to heartbreaking.Today he asked who the woman was that came to see him.It was my sister. They seem to have good days and bad days.Enjoy as much time as you can with him.I find that pictures really light him up somedays he know everyone other days I have to remind him.Another thing I noticed is he remembers the past more then the present.
  19. If you haven't already ask your buddy to try his.I had both sit in and on.There a little cramped.I was looking at a few last year the new seats look great, but the prices where insane. The pelican "catch" was the one I kept looking at its a fishing yak..Went with a 10' jon boat instead. https://www.westmarine.com/buy/pelican--the-catch-120-sit-on-top-angler-kayak--18745158?mrkgcl=481&mrkgadid=3150667403&cm_mmc=PS-_-MSN-_-BSC>NonB>Product%20Type-_-18745158&creative=73598574246830&device=c&matchtype=e&msclkid=a3c143bc914e137a26721ebe59c610c3
