    Guess you could put this in the mistakes department. Got 3 hours of sleep, check the high temps, dressed appropriately, and made it to my spot before sunrise. Realized, I never checked the lows.     I don't prep as much anymore either. I may or may not see less deer because of it. But the goal of hunting isn't always to get the animal but to have a good time. It doesn't make much sense if the prep work ever starts to get in the way of having a stress free, relaxing day of hunting.

    Know the land, know the animal. Be able to predict what the animal would do if food source is gone in one area, if weather changes, etc. Once you can predict where the animals will be, go to that area. if it's a legal hunting area of course.

    I can count the amount of times I had to drop a deuce in the woods in one hand and each one of those times it was due to some questionable breakfast. I never seem to question how long some leftovers are in the fridge. I always go into the woods with the same backpack and the following items never leave that backpack: tags and license, pen, tissue, moist wipes, knife, fire starter (magnesium and ferro rod), compass, first aid kit, water bottle.

    Adding a "h" to the word "sit" changes everything. I mean to drop turd for a whole hour? That must have been some serious hot sauce you ate!

    blind napper, tree stand sleeper, heck...tree stump or hard rock snoozer too. I'm guilty of them all. They also forgot the "whip out cell phone and check up on huntingny.com via TappaTalk or Sunday football" guy.

    By the time gun season starts, a lot of deer has already been spooked from bow hunting and the day lights hours are shorter so many of the deer are nocturnal. There's a reason they stack the deck against us. If it were so easy to hunt within the rules there would be no deer left. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Some people hunt for years and never get the kind of opportunity you got on your first day. I remember my first as well. Had two chances as well but never did release the arrow because I didn't want to take a bad shot. Shooting at the range on flat ground is much different than shooting in the woods with uneven conditions. I always make sure I hit the 3D range several times before the season starts. Good luck on your hunts. I sense that you're now hooked. Welcome to the brotherhood.
