So yesterday I cut out of work a little early, headed home to change and grab one of the blinds, and then went to the farm that Haley and I will be hunting this weekend. I figured I would do a little bit of scouting and set the blind up so its one less thing to carry Saturday morning. I had just about finished getting the blind up and started hearing all kinds of turkeys in the woods nearby. I hopped in the blind and watched and listened as the flock of birds slowly moved through the woods about 50ish yards in. I was stuck in my blind for about a half hour, which wouldnt have been bad if I had a chair lol. I couldnt get any good pics, but I dialed Haley up on Facetime and had her watch and listen with me. She is very excited for this weekend.

Is it better to put the blind up before hand? Last year we set the blind up when we got there and had birds right in front of us. I was planning to do the same for this weekend.

Damn, that stinks. There are alot of birds around my area this year, I dont think Ive ever seen as many. Getting permission to hunt them is another story. I need to go over to one of the neighbors this weekend and see if I can get access to the toms I hear gobbling out back every morning. Apparently my girlfriends ex-husband pissed off all but one of the neighbors. Hopefully that doesnt reflect on me.

Will do, I liked my 870 that had the sure fire stock on it. The main reason I picked this one up for her was the adjustability. Wont have to cut a stock down and then replace it later on. I am calling Gander today to see if its in yet. I still need to order the scope for it, but I need to make sure its drilled and tapped first. If not, she can use the open sights for now and Ill mount a scope on it later.

You going after that double bearded one from last year?
-
Ill be shooting the 3"ers to pattern it, she will be shooting trap loads just to shoot her new gun and get a feel for it.

I fly Southwest all the time for work. The last bump I was offered was $600 and I would arrive at my final destination an hour and a half later than original. It turned out not to be needed. I was kinda bummed, I would have liked to have the money.

Thanks. Are you taking a kid out this weekend?

Stopped in to Gander on Friday and bought Haley her new turkey gun. Its a Mossberg 500 20ga with the adjustable stock, fiber optic sights and ported barrel. Basically the model they used to call the Turkey Thug. I had to order it, so it should be in any day now. They said 3-5 days. I couldnt find a decent price locally for the sight I am going to get her for it, so Ill order that online. She will be all set for this weekend though. I picked up some Remington #5 turkey loads and HeviShot Triple Beard to see how each of them pattern. We will get that done Friday after work so shes ready to go Saturday morning. I also scouted the flock that we will be after both mornings this weekend. They are hanging out right where I figured they would be. Saw them there first thing in the morning, then stopped to check at various times, and they stayed basically in the same field/woods area from daylight till noon. Two of the toms have very long beards, its tough for me to judge from a distance, but they didnt look too far off of the ground. The third was noticeably shorter, but still very nice. There were a couple of jakes off to the side, a little ways from the toms and hens. Looks like we should have darn near perfect weather Saturday and Sunday, so with any luck, she will have a chance to knock down a tom.

By law, they can cap it at $1350, so thats what most airlines capped it at in their policy. Theres no law that says they cant offer more, and some are upping their corporate limits. Just wait till airline ticket prices go up because of this, then everyone will be yelling that they are getting ripped off.

Pygmy is out then

It depends on the price of the one way fare to your destination Involuntary Bumping DOT requires each airline to give all passengers who are bumped involuntarily a written statement describing their rights and explaining how the carrier decides who gets on an oversold flight and who doesn't. Those travelers who don't get to fly are frequently entitled to denied boarding compensation in the form of a check or cash. The amount depends on the price of their ticket and the length of the delay: If you are bumped involuntarily and the airline arranges substitute transportation that is scheduled to get you to your final destination (including later connections) within one hour of your original scheduled arrival time, there is no compensation. If the airline arranges substitute transportation that is scheduled to arrive at your destination between one and two hours after your original arrival time (between one and four hours on international flights), the airline must pay you an amount equal to 200% of your one-way fare to your final destination that day, with a $675 maximum. If the substitute transportation is scheduled to get you to your destination more than two hours later (four hours internationally), or if the airline does not make any substitute travel arrangements for you, the compensation doubles (400% of your one-way fare, $1350 maximum). If your ticket does not show a fare (for example, a frequent-flyer award ticket or a ticket issued by a consolidator), your denied boarding compensation is based on the lowest cash, check or credit card payment charged for a ticket in the same class of service (e.g., coach, first class) on that flight. You always get to keep your original ticket and use it on another flight. If you choose to make your own arrangements, you can request an "involuntary refund" for the ticket for the flight you were bumped from. The denied boarding compensation is essentially a payment for your inconvenience. If you paid for optional services on your original flight (e.g., seat selection, checked baggage) and you did not receive those services on your substitute flight or were required to pay a second time, the airline that bumped you must refund those payments to you. https://www.transportation.gov/airconsumer/fly-rights

I can see your point, but the agreement you enter into is what it is. A good analogy for this would be, you agree to give someone a ride somewhere, something more important for you comes up, you ask the person to get out of your car so that you can take care of that important thing, and they refuse to leave. What do you do? Call the police and let them handle the situation. Thats essentially what United did. If anyone is to blame for what happened to the guy (other than himself), its the police, not the airline. JMO. Back to the memes

Profile says he is in Tennessee

Let me help you with that

I dont blame United for this in any way shape or form. They offered everyone money to give up their seat. When noone volunteered, the computer picked them. When you you an airline ticket, you agree that the airline has the right to remove you from the flight for any reason, and that they will compensate you for the inconvenience. Its the law that determines how much you get. This guy was a douche bag, and got treated accordingly by Airport Police. To me it seems the airline did the right thing, they called security because a passenger was being uncooperative. The way the Airport Police handled it is up for debate, but people should know better than to act like an idiot in an airport or on a plane. They dont tend to mess around. The media is trying to twist this into something it isnt.

I actually have come to the decision to stick with my .308, and get it setup to run the 160Gr Fusions or something similar. I shoot 140s for deer, and I have been more than happy with the results. I think the heavier bullet should do the trick. Ill save my cash for a different gun. I appreciate all of the input, lots of good info in this thread. Thanks everyone! -
Ive eaten plenty of pizza in the NYC area, including Brooklyn, and to be honest, I never had any there that I would say is anything special, or better than some of the local pizza joints in Rochester.

Ive been hearing gobbling for weeks in my area

And then you get the Toyota or Nissan owner that thinks their brand is any better. They all have their issues. Ive seen quite a few Toyota and Nissans that have spent more time in the shop than my truck ever has, have had holes in the frame that you could throw a softball through, are rusted out, etc etc. I buy vehicles that last and dont cost me much to maintain or fix. Resale value, I dont care, I drive my stuff until it is dead anyway. Funny though, Nissan decided to go with an American built engine and transmission (same trans as Ram uses in the 3/4 and 1 tons) for the Titan. Word has it, Toyota is going to follow suit.

Fair enough. Bad customer service sucks to deal with.
-
The trannys in the new generation trucks are not the same as they were in the 90s and early 2000s. Apples and Oranges.
-
Nice truck, congrats. A few tips from a fellow Ram owner: 1 - Do NOT skip the recommended fluid changes, particularly the rear end. Trust me, you dont want to rebuild the rear on it. Been there because I didnt change the fluid. 2 - You should set money aside for new tires, those Goodyears suck. Ive been through a couple of sets on mine, Hankook and BFG. The Hankooks lasted longer than the BFGs, good tires if you do a little offroading. BFGs KO2s were great when new, but didnt last long and got dangerous in a hurry. Im on 35" Nitto Trail Grapplers now, which required a leveling/lift kit. Noisy as can be, but they will get you anywhere you want to go. 3 - The only real issue Ive run into that I couldnt have helped, has been the exhaust manifold studs breaking off. Its a TSB on the Hemis. I have over 140k on mine, the other thing I ran into was rust, but that is due to the previous owner adding chrome wheel well accents (which I got rid of) that had clips that dug through the paint in the wheel wells, thats where it rusted. I would suggest getting it undercoated.
