  1. So making things more and more complicated seems like a good way to try and gain participation in the sport? BTW, when full inclusion happens, you will still be able to use your compound.
  2. Do you read what people respond to you with, or just blindly respond and fly off in your own direction? Recurves didnt go bye bye, you are free to shoot one if you choose. I know a guy that just shot a P&Y buck with one this weekend. On a property that is dominated by compounds no less. You keep saying probably, etc. You dont need to guess at what will happen, theres plenty of states to look at for examples of what happens after crossbow inclusion. Ill give you a hint, its not the doom and gloom picture you keep painting.
  3. Oh stop with the doom and gloom, I dont buy into it. Antigun people are not my concern when it comes to a crossbow conversation. Are you going to address my point about a seperate season for each different implement?
  4. Wrong. It takes the same woodsmanship skills to effectively hunt a deer with a crossbow and a compound. As far as your aim and shoot comment, you are wrong on that too. You need proper form with a crossbow, it just takes a little less practice to achieve than a vertical bow. DEC wants full inclusion, dont fool yourself. They did what they did to get them established as a legal hunting implement and not have to deal with the whining from the minority of a certain elitist group (NYB). If you are going to throw stuff out there, you might want to learn the facts of what went down first.
  5. So then we should have a separate season for every individual type of gun too. And we should have a separate recurve season for bows. Maybe we should just go to 1 week for each type of weapon. You can only use that exact type of weapon during that week. BTW, how many times are you going to respond to the same quote?
  6. archery equipment - kills using a cutting blade at the tip of an arrow fired from a string using energy stored in limbs gun - kills with a bullet that transfers large amounts of energy to its target recurve bow = archery equipment compound bow = archery equipment crossbow = archery equipment rifle = gun shotgun = gun pistol = gun muzzleloader = gun Yes, it is very simple.
  7. Regardless of how fast the crossbows shoot through a chronograph, your effective hunting range is still limited, just like a compound bow. Oh and there have been people whining about the early archery thing for years, its nothing new.
  8. Only until they come up with a dew design that allows more, which they will. Its called evolution and it happens to everything. Its happened with bows before.
  9. Vertical bows are improving year after year as well. Whats your point?
  10. Invalid argument. We are talking about archery equipment here, not guns.
  11. See, thats just you being reactionary and taking things to a totally different place. Thats usually what happens when you know you dont have a legit point to argue anymore. The "airbow" is not archery equipment, its an airgun. Crossbows still fling an arrow with limb and string power.
  12. Added opportunity, and a crossbow is just another form of archery equipment, so why not include it? Just like during gun season you can choose to hunt with (in most areas) a semi auto rifle, a bolt rifle, a single shot rifle, a shotgun, a muzzle loader or even a pistol. Its up to you what kind of a challenge you want to present yourself.
  13. There wont be a huge increase. Just go look at the harvest numbers for other states that recently implemented them. The take goes up a bit, but not enough to cause concern. There will be more hunters in the field during archery season, but after a few years many will quit because crossbow hunting is not like gun hunting, those that dont have the woodsmanship skills will either learn them or wash out. All of these doom and gloom theories that guys throw out there are by in large, unfounded.
  14. Im not "gun hunter", although I do hunt with my guns, I also hunt with my vertical bow, and I am for full inclusion. You still have to get close enough to the deer to shoot them with a crossbow. Who cares if they are more accurate? I welcome hunting implements that are more accurate, that just means that people that are going to make more good, clean kills. All I hear is jealousy pouring out of you. For the first time ever, I completely agree with Uptown Redneck.
  15. How much to ship the clays thrower to 14469? I dont need the clays.
  16. In his 4th picture down, the one on the right could have easily been 1 1/2. We get yearlings on our farms that look like that almost every year.
  17. Had a pretty good weekend in the woods this past weekend. On Saturday I went out for the evening hunt and got into my stand at about 2:30ish. I bumped 6 deer out of one of the food plots on my way in. The wind was blowing pretty good and the gusts were just about making me feel like I should be holding on to my stand. By 5, with zero deer activity where I was, I was starting to consider packing it up when I glanced off to my right and saw may target buck, Waldo, walk out of the thicket thats in the next bottom over from where I was. A second, smaller buck stepped out right behind him, and the two made their way over toward a creek bed/hedgerow to my South West. I watched through the Binos as they both turned and started following the hedgerow right toward me. When they hit about 100 yards, I put my binos down and picked up my bow as they were behind a bunch of brush. I checked the binos again, and saw they were at about 80 yards and still steadily walking in my direction. If they kept going, it would bring them right into the plot at 50 yards or less. Anything less than 40 and I should be able to make the shot unless the tree was rocking too much. Right at around 60 yards, Waldo stopped and started feeding in the Brassicas, and the yearling 6 point with him walked right into my lane at around 45 yards and started feeding. I then lost sight of Waldo, and never ended up seeing him again that day. Soon after, does started pouring out of the woods to my left. Another 3 yearling bucks popped into the plot as well. More does started coming in, and then a nice 2 1/2 year old slowly fed by me at 20 yards, right through both of my lanes dead broadside. I hung out in the stand until it got dark and the deer had emptied the plot. Sunday I got into the same stand at around 3:30. Not long after getting there, a button buck and a 6 point entered the plot. They fed around the plot and eventually bedded right in the middle of it. They got up after about 30 mins, fed around and walked off. Shortly after that, a nice doe popped into the plot and started walking toward my lane. Just before she did, two young bucks, a 4 point and a 6 point, busted into the plot and tried to put their snouts right up the does ass. She was having none of it and trotted right through my lane at 30 yards, but wouldnt stop. The two bucks chased her around for a while before she left. They meandered through the plot, stopping to do a little sparring here and there, before ending up 15 yards to my right, where they started tearing up every tree and bush they could get their antlers on. By then it was past sundown and I slowly packed up, but could not get out of the stand due to deer all over me. I sat and listened to the yotes yapping and howling for a while before the deer all walked off and I could head out. Overall a fun weekend. Ill probably be missing out this coming weekend due to a trip to Florida for work. I wont be back till Sunday night.
  18. Not until after the food sources become scarce. They arent yarding up yet.

  20. Like has been said, rinse it out, trim the meat around the entry/exit wound near the gut area and process as normal.
  21. I kill at least one doe fawn each year. I like the tender meat, and I know exactly what size the deer is. I could care less if you find it unacceptable, your opinion really doesnt mean jack squat to me.
  22. Hold on, who are you to say what "hunting is about"? Hunting is about different things to different people. Always has been, always will be. There is no standardized "hunting heritage" that anyone needs to adhere to.
  23. My personal goals cause me to pass up young bucks and wait for chances at older age class deer. At this point, I have plenty of opportunity to fill the freezer with does, so I dont need to shoot bucks for meat. 1 1/2 year old bucks are easy pickings for me, and Ive shot enough 2 1/2 year olds to where I decided I would up the challenge to 3 1/2 or older. Im actually hunting specific bucks on each of the farms I hunt, but if a different 3 1/2 year old or older buck gives me the opportunity, he will meet his demise. Maybe someday Ill back it down to 2 1/2 or older again, and if I ever get into a situation where I cant kill so many does, I may even take 1 1/2 year old bucks to fill the freezer.
