WNYBuckHunter replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
So I went down to Turners this past Saturday and picked up everything for the Brassica plots. Prices were as follows: 10-20-20 was 12.25/50lbs Brassicas (dwarf essex rape) were 1.95/lb Purple Top Turnips were 8.75/lb GH Radish was $4/lb He does not have any WR in yet, so he didnt give me a price on that yet. I have a different source for that this year anyhow. -
2016-17 New York State Hunting Season Dates
WNYBuckHunter replied to HuntingNY's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
DEC said that the program will be gone, but they ran into a printing deadline, and had to print the maps as they were because the legislation had not been finalized yet. So supposedly it will be gone, they will most likely just do a press release and change the maps online. -
Sorry guys, you cant hijack Classified threads. I moved the conversation to the fishing forum.

Also, please do not "bump" your classified posts constantly, our classifieds section is pretty small and things tend to stay toward the top for quite a while. Once a week is fine, and a total of 5 "bumps" per post. All others will be removed.

I havent even had time to look at prices yet. Ill let you know what I get this coming weekend. I have to grab PTT, Rape, GHR mix and @ 600lbs of 19-19-19 this weekend. Most likely at Turners unless hes out. The rest of the plots will be oats or WR. Im also going to do a couple of WR plots with clover mixed in, so that they have the WR for this season and turn into nice clover plots for next year. That stuff wont be going in for another month. -
The rain gauge near our farms shows .65" today. I hope it will be enough to get some moisture in the soil for this weekend. The forecast shows rain at the end of the week too.

Got down to the farm this weekend and got a bunch of stuff done. Mowed I have no idea how many acres of open land and pasture, and sprayed all of the food plots that will be tilled and planted in brassicas. This year I got ahold of a 250 gallon water tank from one of the local farmers, so that made spraying very easy. I used the pump on the sprayer to transfer the water into the sprayer tank. I currently have to disconnect the pickup from the tank, hook the hose from the large water tank to the pump, then attach another hose to the bypass on the pump, etc. I have an idea to simplify it by adding a T fitting to the pickup hose between the sprayer tank and pump, then Ill add a fitting to the top of the sprayer tank and run a hose from the bypass to that fitting and ill just have to attach a hose from the large water tank to the T fitting, and open/close valves to fill the tank. Couple of pics... -
Yes!!!!! Bring it on! Just in time for tilling and planting this coming weekend. Hopefully it doesnt negate the spraying I did yesterday.

Leaf Blower Recommendation
WNYBuckHunter replied to BizCT's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I have 7 very large maples surrounding my house. Leaves are a problem at my place. I dont even bother with the back yard, just around the house. -
Some states do. Im guessing it will probably turn out to be a case of a misunderstanding with the way it was written. The kid was probably with his dad when his dad killed the turkey.

Same here. Im nervous to even plant right now for fear of wasting seed. -

Stihls are unbeatable. My buddy has a lower end professional model backpack blower that he picked up years ago, and it always runs great. Ive used that one and the hand held models and the difference between them is huge. Id suggest just going with a backpack blower because youll most likely end up wishing you did after a while anyway. I have a hand held one and Im always borrowing his when I need to do a bigger job. -

I was referring mostly to hay and grain farming. Id like to have some animals for personal meat consumption, etc, but not commercial purposes. -
We have state land near where I hunt that gets farmed. The DEC determines what farmer has the rights and gives guidance about crop rotation, etc.

I have a USB card reader that I plug into my TV or a computer, I can also plug it in to the stereo in my truck and view the pics on that. A digital camera or ipad are both good options. -
Id give them a try if they offer 125 grain heads. I like my Rage 125s with the shock collars so far.

LMAO yeah I saw that too I always get a kick out of running the equipment at the farm. I wish I could get myself into a position to farm for a living. I know how hard of a life it is, but it would be way better than what I do now. -

I took the kids down to the farm last night and finished up the mowing of the plots we will be putting in brassicas. Thursday they will get sprayed. While I was mowing one of the plots I decided to let Haley hop in the drivers seat for a bit. Shes been doing a good job mowing the lawn this summer, so I figured she could handle the big tractor as long as I was right there to guide her and shut things down if need be. She was a little scared at first, but did great and loved it. What 12 year old wouldnt get a kick out of driving a 90 hp turbo diesel John Deere? -
I still hunt quite a bit. Lots of times Ill still hunt for a few hours and then jump in a stand for the evening sit, so Ill take a pack with me then. If Im going to be still hunting all day, pack is with me. If I am doing a short still hunt, then I just carry what I need in my pockets.

Daikon and Groundhog radishes are the same thing.

Pontoon boats are not as good for fishing as they seem. For what you are looking to do, a fish & ski or deck boat would be good options IMO.
