WNYBuckHunter's Outdoor Journal
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Member Hunting Journals
I got down to the farms last night to swap camera cards, move a cam and check the food plots. The food plots are doing very well now that we are getting some rain. Im hoping for more rain this week and next so they will really take off. My camera results this time were not disappointing at all, with the bucks finally showing what they have this year. With a little luck, this might turn out to be one hell of a deer season. I couldn't hang around the farm too long, as half way through checking cams, I got stung by something. I am pretty allergic to bees and other things ever since I got bit 200+ times by fire ants when I lived in Florida. I almost ended up in the ER from the reaction last night. Here are a few pics of the plots and stuff... This is our newest plot, if you look close, you see the tint of green on it from the brassicas popping up. Not too shabby for a first year food plot that was nothing but tall grass and weeds a few months ago. Nice yearling up and comer. I hope he makes it another few years. Well, unless he walks under my daughter's stand, he would be a great first buck for her. -
Will they ever allow hunting at Mendon Ponds Park?
WNYBuckHunter replied to Core's topic in Deer Hunting
Will never happen. Too many rich people around the park that are tree huggers. That stretch of 65 is notorious for having some of the highest deer collision numbers around here. Seems like every couple of years someone dies in a deer related crash there. -
The crossbow has been an issue for a while now. Its nothing new caused by bow hunters not going with the doe only season last year. Full inclusion should have happened from the get go anyhow.

LOL Did your thread get moved perhaps? I would assume if it did, its in the political forum.
-
I agree 110%. Maybe that is the goal, and not muzzle loaders after all.
-
Nope, it had to do with using the words you used. I could care less what your opinion or anyone else's is about who should or shouldnt be scrubbed from the earth. IIRC, there were quite a few other posts in that thread that contained cursing, etc. Like I said, if you see others breaking the rules, please bring it to our attention so that it can be delt with. We dont/cant read every single post.

Scout style or "standard" rifle for still hunting?
WNYBuckHunter replied to uberyan's topic in Deer Hunting
Take a look at Vortex glass for your scope. Something in the Viper or Viper HS line, which is much nicer than a VX1 or VX2, but at a similar price point. Check ebay and cameralandny for the best deals. -
Scout style or "standard" rifle for still hunting?

My 12 year old daughter has no issue shooting my Remington 700 in 308. You should be ok. -
Hey look, its a bash the moderators thread again. How original. Its pretty simple really, those of us that are moderators here, are doing so voluntarily. We dont get paid, we have lives, and arent always here to nit pick every little thing everyone does. We dont suspend or ban people for no reason. Break the rules, and its subject to our scrutiny on what to do about it. The vast majority of the time, we will edit language, etc that doesnt adhere to the forum rules out of the posts. Sometimes the posts get deleted if its just too much to edit out, or breaks the rules by a large margin, or if its just general thread-crapping. If you keep up the nonsense after being warned, youll get suspended. Continue after that and youre running the risk of being banned. If you post something and its in the wrong section, we will move it where it belongs. Nobody watching us? How about the owner of the site? If he doesnt agree with something we do, he talks to us about it and corrects what was done. The site keeps logs of all of the moderation activity, so all of the mods know what is going on. We also have a section that only we see, where we let each other know what we are doing if its something other than just general stuff. As far as feeling like you were suspended and others werent, then feel free to point out when others are doing the same thing, and we can deal with it accordingly. We dont have time to look at every single post, so notifying us helps many times. Theres a report post link at the top of each post. Use it if you see the rules being broken. Otherwise its kinda like voting, you cant complain if you dont participate. If you get suspended and dont feel it was warranted, email the site owner. BTW Diplomat, you had been warned before I suspended you, but you chose to keep on with the nonsense. Thats on you. Eagle Rider, who did you message? Did you report the post(s)?

No Till Plantings..
WNYBuckHunter replied to LET EM GROW's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Lots of farmers around my area are doing it with beans. They are drilling the beans into harvested WW/WR fields and it seems to be working pretty well. I dont know that I would do it without a drill, but Ill be watching for what kind of results you get. I just go over our plots with the tiller, partially to work in the fertilizer. What did you do with fertilizer on your no till plot? -
Happy birthday Larry!

Trail Cam: Free for a kid who could use the help.
WNYBuckHunter replied to phade's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
You arent getting banned for that. Oderless showed zero class with that post. Great thing that youre doing with the cam. Hopefully whichever kid gets it, enjoys the heck out of it. -
I have a Gander Mountain steel deer cart. I have used it a couple of times and it worked great. I havent used it since I got my ATV. If you want to buy it, let me know. Ill give you a good deal on it.
-
I consider myself to be better than the average hunter and Ill tell you right now, I can kill more deer with a gun than a bow. It boils down to number of opportunities, and I have way more of them within the 250 yard mark than I do within the 40 yard mark.
-
That makes no sense, we are talking about what weapon the average hunter can use to kill deer efficiently (which turns into greater numbers). For the average person, they can kill more deer more efficiently with a gun. If you are arguing that fact, you are either arguing for the sake of arguing or you have no idea what you are talking about.
-
Why do I have to remember what I said when someone else makes a statement?
-
30 - 40 yard average effective range VS 200 - 250 yard average effective range Yeah, its the hunter thats less effective.....
-
You might want to look into what weapons are legal for what in the states that use ARCHERY seasons to lower numbers in small areas effectively, because they arent just using vertical bows. You also need to look into all of the other numbers and factors involved with those other states. Hunter numbers and density, overall deer numbers, harvest numbers, how the land is broken up, access laws, etc. All of that has an effect on the outcome of that state's deer season. You cant always look at the end result and automatically assume the same would happen in a different situation.
-
Soooo, its ok for bow season but not gun season. Contradict yourself much? I just have to remember that this nonsense is coming from someone that believes that a bow and arrow is just as effective as a gun.
-
Ive given my solutions already, go back a page or two. BTW, every single state you mentioned has something in common, and its not just bows or attitudes.
-
You keep saying other states use an archery doe only season to knock down the numbers effectively. What states are you talking about? Examples please.
-
Come on man, you know that line about not enough room to gun hunt is a load of BS. None of these areas we are talking about are bow only, and tons of gun hunting happens in them. As far as my strategy on deer in any season goes, and when I shoot does, look at my last reply to stubby.
-
Again, your missing the point of what I said. Wait, how is that cutting gun season? Its fine with you to do that same exact thing to the bow season, why not gun? Your ineffective hunter crap is nonsense, if you truly think that bows are as effective as guns, than you sir, are an imbecile. As far as the separating "ourselves" from others, thats another load of crap. I have never once considered myself as a "bow hunter that hunts with a gun". Youre barking up the wrong tree with that broad brush painting pile of BS lol. Listen to yourself, all you keep saying is "bow hunters are trophy hunters" "bow hunters wont kill does" "bow hunter" this, "bow hunter" that. Who is it again that classifies groups of hunters and then starts their broad brush paining routine? Yes, trophy hunter stigma is silly. Why? Because you say it like its a bad thing. If someone wants to trophy hunt, thats their business, and who the heck are you to tell them they shouldnt be doing it? Whats even sillier is that there are just as many, if not more guys that strictly gun hunt and wont shoot anything other than a "big buck", so your assertion that its a "bow hunter" thing is bunk. I kill my does when I have the chance to, which is usually during gun season, but if the right opportunity comes along during bow, Ill kill them then as well. You see, many times when I have does in front of my stand during bow season, there are bucks there as well. Im not into educating the bucks on our property, so I wont shoot a doe with them around. If theres a buck that Im after present, then I will be trying to shoot him, and not worrying about does. Now, if a group of does comes along and there are no bucks visibly present, then Im probably going to take one if it gives me the opportunity for a good, clean shot. I actually use the same line of thinking during gun and ML seasons as well, its just that making a clean shot on a deer with either of those two weapons is far easier, and the range is far longer, so many more opportunities come around.
-
Right, so the first week or two of gun season is the perfect time to knock them down. Or put a 2 week early antlerless season in September with a break between that and bow season, to give the deer a chance to calm back down. That way, the issue gets taken care of effectively.
