The reason they were "quiet" coming in, is because they are going close to the speed of sound, so they are basically almost outruning the sound of their engines. BTW, no aircraft at an airshow is going 1000 mph. The speed of sound at sea level is @ 750mph iirc, and they cannot break that at an airshow, they stay just under it on their high speed runs. Heres a video from last Friday of the demo F18 practicing, he was just under the speed of sound. BTW, there is no lag between the video and sound. http://vid95.photobucket.com/albums/l160/jwolfe1976/CF12577E-8993-4325-A458-FA891EA092DE_zpsskugadxd.mp4 Heres one of the Blue Angels solos doing the same type of pass.. http://vid95.photobucket.com/albums/l160/jwolfe1976/79DFDE2B-D0A3-4437-B0E6-FAB253D5F427_zpsbxugoqhd.mp4

First corn plots
WNYBuckHunter replied to NYBuckHunter27's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Its our first year trying it. Theres plenty of food on the property though, so we will see what happens. I dont think they will eat it before the ears develop though. -
I agree, but the OBR, and doing away with either sex, and use them anywhere doe tags needs to be implemented along with it.

Nope, just over 1/2 -
I have to agree on the two buck tag thing, we need to get to a OBR, get rid of the freaking either sex tags, and doe tags that can be used anywhere, and start managing the does strictly by WMU. The more I read the ideas here, the more I like the sounds of phade's idea of going OTC with DMPs. Make it so that you go get 2, and if you fill them (has to be some type of check in to prove that), then you go back to get more if you want. They could just keep handing them out until the numbers they want are filled. As far as overpopulation goes, I am guessing that you only think that because you are really basing it upon your area. 10 miles from you, there could be a serious problem, and youd never know it. Now, that brings up growalot's point that WMUs are really too big to effectively manage just through tag allocation. Its good that you recognize that there isnt an overpopulation on your land/area of 8N, so you can adjust your take accordingly, but one of the farms I hunt sits on the 8H/8N border, and Ill say that we have a pretty high deer density in our area, so we need figure out our take based on that, not based on whats going on in your area of the same WMU.

I dont think that the buck scenario fits most of the situations, at least it doesnt fit the situations around us. People just dont want to allow just anyone onto their property for many reasons, but mostly its because people come in and tear stuff up. We had a bunch of issues with that last year on one property, and it was from guys that have had long standing permission to the place. Knocking down fences, cutting down oak trees without permission (shouldnt cut ANY tree without permission, but hardwwods to boot?), leaving all kinds of trash around, gutting gloves, etc. In turn, fewer people are given permission, and only a small percentage of the ones that are, actually kill deer consistantly, so not enough are taken. If you are ever out this way, let me know, Id be glad to put you in a stand, no money necessary.

First corn plots
WNYBuckHunter replied to NYBuckHunter27's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Our corn plot is going to have shooting lanes in it, filled with brassicas. The lanes will fan out through the corn from the stand thats on the plot edge. I will till the corn in when we spread the urea in 4 weeks. Then Ill add fertilizer and brassicas in July. -
How would eliminating DMPs entice any public access? It would mostly entice poaching, more DMAPs and DDPs. If you mean eliminate DMAPS, I dont see that as being very productive either. Take the farm I hunt, we get 6 or 8 DMAPs each year for the one parcel. They are reserved for whomever shoots the does first. They sit in an old farm truck near the enterance to the land. We always use them, plus some of our DMPs. It still doesnt put a dent in the population because we have neighboring properties that wont shoot does, and one that doesnt allow access at all. None of the properties around us would allow public access unless there was some kind of financial benefit to it. You have to be somehow connected to the landowners to get permission, and even then it wont guarantee anything. Or are you talking DDPs, like nuisance permits? Just my opinion.

If I told you the number of people that hunt the property I do, youd be surprised. Its just as full as public ground some years. Theres just a core group of us that are consistantly successful because we put the most time and work in. We know the land and how the deer use it. The others just pop in from time to time for the most part. Ive hunted Harriet Hollister before, stopped because I have better ground to spend time on. Regardless, theres a population problem, it needs to be delt with. No solution is going to make everyone happy.

There are guys out there that sit on doe tags because they think that if they sit on the tags, they wont be there for others to use. They dont realize that DEC issues far more tags than they need filled, just to get around issues like that. It does, however, create an issue because some of those guys are hunting areas with little to no public access, so the number of does that need to be taken, cant be. For the areas I hunt (8H,8N) its an access issue more than anything. Look at 8H and tell me how much public ground there is to hunt. Not much. Short of giving out some kind of financial benefit to landowners who allow public hunting, they are going to have an extremely hard time getting a significant rise in doe kill in those areas. Special seasons, more tags issued, etc just wont work.

You can take a gander at the Deer Harvest Report, which was just issued not too long ago, to confirm what Culver said.

First corn plots

I thought about doing that this year, only broadcasting both corn and beans. I decided to broadcast corn and plant beans elsewhere... http://www.qdma.com/articles/mixing-corn-and-soybeans-in-food-plots -

I took a couple of days off this week, so I headed out to do a little turkey hunting this morning, no birds for me. Headed home and loaded up my stuff and went down to the farm to work on food plots. I stopped at the local feed/supply store and grabbed 300lbs of 15-15-15 and 30 lbs of buckwheat. Next I headed to my buddys house to load up a few more things, then went to the farm. We ended up getting one plot fertilized and planted with corn, one plot tilled and planted in buckwheat, and then we started brush hogging a new plot. Here are a few pics from the day... New to us harrow... Gorgeous day! Yesterday, i won a drone quadcopter in a raffle. Image quality isnt great, but its good enough to make it fun to mess with..Took a bunch of pics at the farm today. Heres a few... -
Hard to say, but i know a bunch of guys that used them for late season. I want to see full inclusion too.
-
I dont think it was 5k in 2 weeks, it was 5k reported as taken with xbow through the entire season. Remember, you report what weapon you kill the animal with.
-
Id rather them just go to OBR, get rid of the either sex tags, and give people less of a reason to pass does while they wait for Ol' Mossy Horns to walk by. Then they might not just whack the first dink that walks by for meat, then trophy hunt, they either burn that buck tag or start shooting does.
-
Id be willing to bet the same thing Larry Am I missing something, or is there no link to comment on the deer regulation proposals? I see the links for turkey and fischers and a bunch of others.

I have a couple of iMacs here at work that I upgraded to Yosemite, and they run Office. No issues. I would probably try to run a repair on the Office software if you are having issues. You couldnt pay me enough to mess with a Samsung. Ive never had any luck with any Samsung stuff, from phones to refrigerators, anything I own that has Samsung on it, dies quickly.

This weekend I started on a project Ive been meaning to do for a while. Last summer, I tore an old shed down at my fathers place, and hauled the wood home with the intentions of building a shooting house with it. I finally had some time to get started on it. Figured out what I needed to grab from Lowes and got it going. Saturday I tore all the wood down from the shed and removed nails. Sunday I started building. I got most of the framing done, just need to get the roof done, then it will be time to figure out exactly how Im gonna do the windows and add a door. This one will be elevated, somewhere between 10 and 14 feet up. The dimensions of the shooting house are 7 feet wide by 4 feet deep, 6 feet tall at the back and 7 feet at the front. It will have carpet, insulation and shelves in the corners. Should make for a nice place to take the kids on a cold, rainy or windy day. -

Haley is going into 6th grade next school year. She will be hunting next year. Crazy, huh? -
The Surface would be my first choice for going the windows tablet route. We have tried some of the Dell Venues, and they arent that great. The Lenovo ThinkPad 10 is nice as well if you dont want to spend as much as the Surface costs. Before I bought a Surface Id probably buy a Macbook Air, but I wouldnt care about touch screen with a laptop.

Downwind from one of the lakes? You always see people launching the chinese lantern deals. Speaking of the lakes, I can only Imagine the amount of trash at the bottom of them. Between fireworks (ever clean your yard up after shooting a whole bunch of them off?), boaters, flooding washing stuff in there, etc it has to be crazy.

ATV Features & Purposes
WNYBuckHunter replied to Doc's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
For working/hunting I took everything on that list into consideration. Most important though, were power (towing/hauling capacity), room for the kids, and after that the handling, speed and traction. Then I added a winch and plow to make it all that much better. Im so glad I went the side by side route instead of a regular wheeler. The only thing I would add is the power steering.
