You would never achive the necessary population control that way.

I might agree if I had based my opinion on one statement, but the fact that he kept wording it differently and asking over and over makes me scratch my head. He didnt ask why the law exists, he asked what difference does it make if I break the law. Theres a difference. If you dont want to hear a negative reaction to a question about breaking the law, you shouldnt pose it on an internet forum.

Uh no, its 2 bucks in NY. 1 in EITHER early archery or late archery/ML and one in regular gun. Pooled tags? Tresspassing? Shoot everythig they see? I really hope you arent saying that everyone that does drives acts in any of those ways. The past 3 years in a row I have passed on multiple bucks on drives, and I have never shot a deer I didnt have a tag available for. Niether have the guys I do drives with. At least you didnt say all gun hunters are slobs though.

Im a criminal because I question a law that is unconstitutional? Please. Theres a difference between asking what the law is and saying what difference does it make if I break it. To me, it seems like someone either trying to justify their desire to break the law, or just stirring the pot to get everyone riled up. NYAntler hit the nail on the head. Might as well say whats the difference if I jack a deer at night? It will die anyway....

WNYBuckHunter's Outdoor Journal

This past weekend I got out on the woods saturday morning and sat for a bit, then did a short still hunt through one area of the swamp. I had a doe pop out from under a blow down, but she got into the thick brush before I could get a bead on her. I then met up with some of the guys and we did a couple of drives. By the time we were done, I was soaked to the bone and exhausted, so I decided to call it and headed home. Sunday was the day our QDMA branch did our wounded vets hunt. We did the hunt on a long time managed QDM property. We had 2 guys out, and after the branch president and I got together, we met up with the two of them and headed over to the camp. We got there and went in and met with our contact and went over strategies for the day. The morning hunt put both pairs of hunters in elevated box blinds. One overlooking a large thick bedding/transition area, and the other overlooking a stand of corn and a small food plot. The hunter I was with chose the corn, so we dropped the branch pres and his hunter at the bedding stand and we were dropped off at ours. We got in the box blind and opened everything up and settled in. The moon was bright, and we could see easilly well before dawn. We saw a large bodied deer come out of the corn about 100 yards out, and watched it disppear into the thicket. It was good to see movement so soon after we got there. After sunrise, we saw some movement in the open lane between the corn and hedgerow. It was a doe that had run out of the corn, as I got my binos up, I saw a large buck run out of the corn, hot on the does heels. I couldnt get a great look at his rack, but it was outside the ears and fairly tall. He was definatley mature. The doe and buck quickly disappeared up a different trail. We watched the area just in case the deer reappeared, but no such luck. A little bit later, the vet, Paul, and I were chit chatting a bit and I truned and noticed a nice doe on the edge of the corn. Paul got ready, but the doe never presented a clean shot. Later in the morning, our contact told us we should make a move to a nearby trasnition area, as the other hunters had been covered up in deer, and seen a great buck, and some other smaller bucks. We made the move and settled in. We saw a couple of does moving through a thicket and into a stand of pines. After that, we headed to the camp and had some lunch, then headed out for the afternoon sit. We sat in a blind watching a food plot, but didnt end up seeing anything. The other pair ended up taking a big doe on the afternoon sit. The day was great, and everyone had fun. We ended up seeing over 20 deer between us and one doe in the books. Im hoping we can do a successful wounded vets hunt again next year! Im almost glad deer season is reaching an end. I have meat in the freezer, and am getting worn down. Now its on to muzzle loader season for one last go! -

Youre right Joe, I will adjust it. -
I hear this stuff every year, and I knew that crossbows and the youth season would be blamed. I will wait to see the harvest numbers for the youth season, but I would go so far as to guarantee that they are pretty low, so you are barking up the wrong tree. Blaming crossbows is just another attack on archery hunting, and I dont get it. Crossbows are fairly easy to use, so get one, learn the woodsmanship skills to get close enough and join the party. Nusiance permits, you can see the numbers of those harvests each year, and they are insignificant. DMPs, well, NY wants to lower deer numbers, and they can only manage to a certain point. After that, its up to you. If you believe deer numbers are low in your specific area, lay off the does for a couple of years. Just because you have tags, doesnt meant you have to fill them. Coyotes? Go trap/hunt them. I have to agree with FSW on a couple of things, 1 buck a year, and mandatory reporting (dont need to mail them back, just go online and report them as unused) of ALL tags before you can purchase your lisence for the next season. BTW, deer patterns can change on a property. We see it all the time on our farms. Oh, and you mentioned trail cams, maybe you need to consider the additional pressure you are putting on the deer with them. Everytime you check them, its pressure. If they are not set up high, or are not true black flash, they will spook deer and add pressure to them. You have to be careful about trail cam use.

Whats a stewart of the land?

Theres been a ton of suggestions of cutting straps, removing ladder stand support bars, booby trapping trails against four wheelers, shooting out spotlights, etc etc
-
You mean its more sporting to bait the animal than to cause it to move?
-
Ive pulled stands, piled brush at the bottom of them, left notes, but i would never ever sabotage one or cause a condition where someone could get hurt. I do know the threads Rob is talking about though. Read that stuff on here every year.

ok, just asking.

Gotcha. So the ones people pay to shoot are only mildly accustomed to people?

On your website, you show pics of you handling fawns and feeding the deer like pets. Just sayin...

A couple of weeks ago my buddy and I were doing a little in season scouting when the farmer fired up the combine. Both of our heads perked up and looked in the same direction.
