  1. Personally, Id like to see a longer ML season and shorter regular gun season. To add to ML, time needs to be taken away from regular season. Just my opinion though.
  2. I will be switching to a ML instead of shotvun for the whole gun season from now on. I think 1 more week of late ML would be good, but some years the bucks start dropping antlers early, so mistaking them for does may happen more than youd want.
  3. Lol burt, ill have to get a new hat!
  4. Thanks guys! Treeguy, I wish I had a scale. Shes really big, 2 1/2 or 3 1/2. Not the biggest doe I have shot, but close. Biggest I have shot was 168lbs. Ill have to put a scale on my list of stuff to get.
  5. I connected one a nice doe today. I almost didnt go out for the evening sit, but couldnt resist, so I headed up to my honey hole, which has been severly underhunted this year. I got there just before 4pm and got settled in. Right at 4:20, 4 doe showed up in the field, the lead doe trotting toward my lane right at 50ish yards. I gave her the normal mouth grunt and she stopped and looked, so I saeezed the trigger and let her have it. The 50 dropped hrr in her tracks. The last 2 years, ive shot 2 with the ML, and I am sold. Hanging up the shotgun for anything but drives.
  6. Phade, that sucks. Sorry it happened. Sam, congrats on the doe! I gave in and came back to my stand, but its almost over...
  7. So what I take from the first article that Culver posted is that he took the cape, head and the majority of the meat out with him, and left part of the carcass behind, which is common practice in some places. IMO, it should be the guide's place to say that could not be done and was against the law there. That explains 2 of the charges to me. The one about illegally taking a Whitetail hasnt been explained yet from what I have seen. Remind me to not use that guide of I ever go to Alberta.
  8. Well, I decided to do some walking, so I got out of my stand at my dads and came back down to the farm. Walked probably 2 miles total and didnt see a damn thing. Found a couple of great looking spots for next year though. Looks like the wind is dying down a bit, so I might head back up to my dads for the evening sit, but theres a 50/50 chance Im done for the year.
  9. As far as the origi nal topic goes, you are always going to have law breakers, and yes, you have to take them into account, but you cant let them deter something that you want to or should do. I would much rather see a few guys buy extra buck tags for their ol' ladies so they can still get 2 bucks than see the state push ARs on everyone.
  10. Thanks! Im still in the same mode as I have been. Slicks and heart attacks!
  11. True, but we are talking legal hunters
  12. Btw this is where I lost that buck, but that was 2 months ago. If that deer died, hes a pile of bones by now.
  13. Theres a stand of pines about 200 yards feom this stand where they roost. If you walk toward the pines they all take off. Pretty neat.
  14. The buzzards are following me again....
  15. Hard to say exactly how many bucks would be "saved", but the real interesting question would be, if a guy can only take 1 buck per season, is that going to cause him to be more selective, at least at the beginning part of the season?
  16. I agree, there are too many unknowns to be able to say for sure one way or the other.
  17. Yeah this wind sucks, but I almost hit a few deer on the way here so we will see what happens.
  18. Thanks Mbucks Im just about to hop in the shower and head over to my dads land to finish out the season. He has seen a big buck hanging in the field by my stand each day for the last 3, and Ive been staying away to keep the pressure off of the area. Im gonna take a couple of sammies and spare hand warmers and try to make it an all day sit.
  19. Doesnt your normal human scent drift out through the woods to the same places your cigarette smoke would have? You can dip yourself in scent killer everyday for a year, but you cant eliminate scent completely, and it does nothing for your breath. What I have noticed in the same areas hunting before and after quitting smoking is that I see a few more deer, but believe it has more to do with the fact that I almost never have to cough or clear my throat, unlike before when I smoked. Ive gotten winded since I quit smoking, and thats with a pretty intensive scent elimination process. I do believe that scent elimination helps, and probably makes the deer think you are further away than you really are, but I know it doesnt completely eliminate my human odors.
