send letters for crossbows in NY
WNYBuckHunter replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
We buy a "bowhunting" stamp, not an "archery" stamp. Let the lazy turds learn to bowhunt, if they want to be in bowseason. By the way....what makes you think full intrusion will stop the controversy? Crossbow hunters will ALWAYS be second class citizens, considered cheaters by real bowhunters and the general public. Wow, and you dont consider yourself an elitist? Talking about "second class citizens" and "real bowhunters"? BTW, DEC uses Archery and Bowhunting interchangeably on their website. -

Ok, so I had to read this 5 or 6 times before I could piece this puzzle of babble together, but what I get out of it is that you are going to start a crusade against crossbows based on the fact that you dont like them. I am guessing it all stems from your neighbors, whom you think will then be haphazardly shooting crossbow arrows all through your woods, and you will get shot by one of them. Well, have fun with that, but Im pretty sure you will be sadly disappointed with the results. BTW, what exactly have I said to give anyone a reason to become anti-crossbow? I have given facts and my opinion, which is based on facts not emotion. I have called some of the people in the thread elitists, because thats the type of attitude they have shown. As Ive said before, if it walks, talks and looks like a duck, its a duck. arrowflinger and spiker have been quacking up a storm. Oh, one more thing, I do give you respect for not aligning yourself with a group that has stood shoulder to shoulder with the anti-hunting, animal rights crowd. -

They get killed because people get worked up about them. If they didnt, many would get alot further than they do, if not pass. Yup. That or the radical fringe fails when they produce this stupid crap. Huh? Im not following you there. These bills fail because the lawmakers that create them are so far out of touch with reality that they believe them to be reasonable. But they are not reasonable, they are radical.....and therefore fail. It has nothing to do with people getting worked up. It has to do with whacky ideas....most of them fail on their own. You honestly believe that people getting worked up and voicing opposition to bills has no effect on what happens with them? -
Ive always thought a fold up full auto was exactly what I need when walking the dog.

Yeah, I figure the same thing with the solid copper slugs. I will definitely share my results with the SSTs. I just wish this weather would knock it off so I can get out to the range lol. Rain yesterday and getting pounded with snow today equals no range time this weekend for me.

Nonsense. The controversy has been created by crossbow pushers like you who demand that crossbows be allowed in bow season. NYB is simply trying to protect bow hunting and bow hunters. Remember, crossbows have always been illegal. It is preposterous that you would blame NYB for creating the controversy. Support each other? LMFAO. Then crossbow hunters should support bowhunters, too. The door swings both ways. An easy way to do that is to find a different season, instead of forcing their way into ours, where they have always been illegal, where they will never belong. Crossbows are archery equipment with similar limited ranges as their vertical bow counterparts, and that is the bottom line. Your refusal to acknowledge that makes no difference, facts are facts. All that crossbow proponents want is for all archery equipment to be included right where it belongs, in archery season. Keep flapping your gums, we wont have to listen to it for much longer. LOL -
I had a picture of a slug that I shot a deer with this past season, it was a low hit, but the slug never expanded and I found it in the ground, it had barely penetrated the ground and was visible. I have also had many other deer run for a long way with little or no blood trail on a double lung hit. I just dont believe that the copper slugs can expand properly. I wont use them any more.

Further proof you guys are living in the past. The future is nothing less than the xgunners vs. the bowhunters, and if they include the xgun into the archery season, we have lost. But, if we can successfully keep inclusion to only the rifle season, and late mz...we will have won, and you will not see many xguns at all after a few years. And, nice diversionary tactic by only addressing the comic book reference..it was to be expected. I addressed more than the comic reference, the reference in itself was a diversionary tactic used by you in the first place. Nice try though. Oh, and your comment wasnt directed toward me, I never said anything about the "your deer" deal, so why would I address it? Like I said, nice try. You need to pay attention to who you are talking to lol. The only reason there is a crossbow vs bowhunter controversy is due to elitist propaganda pushed out by NYB and organizations like it. Living in the past? That is what your crowd is all about, refusing to get with the times, which should be about hunters supporting each other, not organizations that divide the hunting community like NYB has been doing with the crossbow issue and elitist attitudes. -

Ive used other sabots, the Remington copper solids to be exact, and had issues with them. I have done a ton of research and found that the problem with them seems to be their lack of expansion, as I had happen with the last one I used. The Hornady SSTs dont seem to have that issue due to their design, which is the same as other ballistic tip bullets. The performance should be very good, I havent heard of any complaints with them, so we will see. Like I said, if I dont like them for some reason, Ill try something else.

Oh we get it Spiker. Maybe one of these days you will too, but probably not until full inclusion smacks you in the face. BTW, people have been saying "Bub" long before it popped into a comic. -
Thanks for the suggestion. As long as the SSTs pattern well, Ill use them. If they dont work out, ill give those a try.

Must have been a crossbow hunter, cuz a real bow hunter would never have taken such a bad shot.

Very nice. Ive been wanting to do a new stock on my Remington 700. I just havent decided on what stock I am going to use. When I do it, I will bed the action and float the barrel. Im not in a huge hurry though, shes already a tack driver. -
Ever hear a fox make this noise in the woods before ???
WNYBuckHunter replied to C_Carr316's topic in General Hunting
Fox make all kinds of sounds. In the spring and early summer I have heard them sound almost like a person yelling or screaming, Ive had them back at me when they bust me hunting for them as well. Fox are more vocal than most people think. -
I remember that storm. I woke up in the middle of the night to trees falling into my father's pond and the snapping of limbs all around. We were without power for over a week. I made alot of money after that storm though, I had a chainsaw and cut up the fall downs and branches and trimmed broken trees for alot of people. We also collected up alot of the power lines that RG&E left laying in ditches, cut the insulation off and sold the copper.

Im with Fulldraw on this. Strings are relatively cheap, and I wouldnt go on a hunt that cost me thousands of dollars and end up having a string cost me the animal. You have plenty of time for the new string to break in if you are practicing the way you should be before the hunt. Remember to shoot your bow once you get to the destination, just to make sure its still on and ready.
