send letters for crossbows in NY
WNYBuckHunter replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
The size of crossbows in the future comment is just irrelevant. NY and other states where crossbows are legal have minimum and maximum thresholds for crossbows. If they dont fit within them, they are not legal, just like any other hunting implement that doesnt meet its designated requirements. There are also laws of physics that you just cant get around with bows, no matter if they are vertical or horizontal. Thats part of the reason why they created guns as a more efficient way of killing in the first place. -

You really don't understand the concept of "debate". For you, any deviation from your thought process is met with name calling, and dismissal. So, why can't it be called a X gun..after all it is a cross between a gun, and a bow, even though that wasn't the intended definition by the originators of the weapon. After all it was invented before the gun...but it was not called a crossbow. It was called things like ballista, winlass, and other names that described the mechanical function of the weapon. It might have been the Chinese who actually invented the shoulder mounted stock/trigger assembly that led to the modern versions. Before, the holding portion was more of a plank, or piece of wood that allowed the shooter to hold the weapon with one hand. Funny, the Chinese invented gunpowder also...another fact tying the two weapons together, and making it in essence, a hybrid gun/bow. It's a shame to see people who would rather get personal, and demeaning rather than present their point, and hope to provide the person they are debating with an insight into their views in a friendlier manner. Its not called a crossgun because it is a bow mounted crosswise on a stick. It does not shoot bullets, it does not use gunpowder, there is no explosion or fire or spark. Its not a gun, its archery equipment, albeit a different form of it than a vertical bow. It shoots an arrow, powered by a string, held by a release system. If you lack the common sense to understand that it is not a gun because it shares more similarities to a bow, then that is your problem, and debating your ignorance is a waste of my time. You want to talk demeaning, how about you two (arrowslinger and yourself, just so there is no doubt who I am talking about) calling anyone that wants to use a crossbow lazy and ridiculous? You two guys are possibly the biggest flingers of personal insults in the whole discussion. -

Not worth my time. You cant even get yourself to a maturity level where you call things by the correct terminology. Sorry, but you have zero credibility. -

We were talking about revealing one's identity as an NYB official as a poster on this website. Please try to keep up. Dont try to dance your way out of it. You said what you said. -

If you live your life according to Wikipedia, which can be edited by anyone and is not considered a valid source on any subject by any college or university. Just sayin. Might want to be careful who you use it around. -

Easilly, you said.... Look at the vitriole that you and a few others have displayed here. It is not a significant stretch of the imagination to believe that some crossbow advocates would resort to violence. Besides....its really none of your business who holds what position, if any, in NYB. In reality, its everyone's business, as SteveB pointed out here... -

It would most likely have the same or a similar effect, in that it would create a black market for it. Either way, its pretty scary stuff. Our freedoms just get chipped away at each day, sadly, most people dont even see it and wont until its too late. :-[ -

So if it takes less practice to be proficient, then it must be more than "a bit easier." Like I said....you are contradicting yourself. ;D It is not. It refers to cards...would you feel more comfortable if we said "let's call a diamond a diamond" or "a club a club." I will wait for your apology. How am I contradicting myself when I am saying it is easier? You arent making sense. No, it has no reference to cards, it began as a reference to shovels and took another turn in the American culture in the early 20th century. Go look up the origin of the saying. : -

You are contradicting yourself. If they are only "a bit easier to shoot," then there should not be a significant difference in in "the time to practice properly" with a crossbow, meaning crossbowers would fare no better than a compounder who didn't have time to shoot. Your logic falls short...again. No, it takes less practice to be proficient with a crossbow. End of story, nobody is denying that (at least Im not). This is a weak attempt at humor, right? Actually no, its a racist remark. -

Nobody is afraid of NYB members or officials. Spiker, you guys fought the battle to legalize crossbow hunting in any way shape or form, and flat lost. Get ready for more disappointment. -

I am a bowhunter that has hunted with compounds and recurves. I am associated with NYB and P&Y, and by association, NABC. I think anyone physically able to use a bow but chooing a crossbow instead is a pathetic lazy slob. Were you the one to compare the top of the line crossbow to an old, used, midline Mathews to try and prove your point? LMAO Seriously though, all of the questions asked of you have been relevant, you just wont answer because they either will not help your argument or will actually diminish it. By the way, never have I said that crossbows are the same as a compound, or denied that they are a bit easier to shoot. In fact, I say that is one reason to let them in to archery season. Not everyone has the time to practice properly, and they are not lazy. This whole thread speaks loudly about why many people think that you NYB guys are elitists. Oh and I dont call "a spade a spade", that would be racist. Might want to watch what you type on a public forum. Just to refresh... We are calling a spade a spade, right? You do not have to draw your "bow." I can do it for you, days in advance if necessary. You can not draw mine for me....when it matters. -

Pardon? Im a bow hunter. I believe that crossbows belong in archery season, with the other forms of archery equipment. I am not alone in this belief either. Watch yourself when painting with a broad brush. -

Go look at the "crossbow facts" section on the NABC webpage. http://www.nabowhuntingcoalition.com/BowhuntingIssues.html What a joke. To make a point, they compare a PSE TAC15 with a Mathews Drenalin. So they are comparing the top of the crossbow speed race with a discontinued, high-mid level bow. Apples and Oranges. Their credibility is squat, and they are on the same level as NYB, which isnt saying much. BTW, I was talking about major archery associations classifying crossbows as archery equipment. I was not talking about anti-crossbow organizations that dont want full inclusion. Like I said, you are a liar. -

: Exactly the dance I have come to expect from NYB members. All you have done is dance around questions, change what people say and fling personal attacks. No. I have extended it. Even if we accept your premise that you were staying " within the lines of archery equipment," (something that was clearly left unstated,) we can still extend your logic to firearms and end up at the same place, that rifles would replace MZ because they are "a weapon they have a better chance of making a clean, efficient kill with?" You must be able to see the parallels to rifles in MZ and crossbows in bowseason....when we extend your reasoning. You still FAIL. Wrong. I clearly stated previously in the same conversation that I was talking archery equipment. Remember this? "I say that the real victims here are the ones that you and others deny the right to hunt with the archery equipment of their choice." Regardless of that, you are changing the line of reasoning in an attempt to make some sort of justification for your flawed logic. Also, Im not talking parallels in muzzleloaders, Im talking archery equipment. Your question is irrelevant, and has nothing to do with whether crossbows should be legalized or not. Wrong again, my question is completely relevant, why wont you answer it? Could it be because you cant without showing the flaws in your logic? Its ok, I already know. ROFLMAO 99%, huh? There goes your credibility. Well, seeing as I dont have the time or capability to say every archery association, I say 99%. Thats no shot to credibility. You want to talk credibility? How about your organization's credibility? Standing shoulder to shoulder with an antihunting organization while protesting crossbows, and advocating an early gun season. Thats just a couple of examples of the hypocrisy brought about by the elitist mentality they hold so dear. Now, unless you can answer the questions without twisting things around, Im done talking with you. -
Theres an easy answer. You have to measure the limbs. Not overall width, which would include the cams.
