  1. You can get small rubberbands like that from a hobby or craft store as well.
  2. I do a bit of both. Mostly treestands for bow season, but Ive been known to sit in a ground blind or two, especially if I feel I need to adjust my position on the fly.
  3. I usually like to get it done about a month before season, when I setup my stand(s)
  4. I like them. They kinda look a little old school.
  5. I used to smoke and did it while in the woods. You can control your scent all you want, but you are fooling yourself if you think its all gone. You still have to play the wind. While I never shot a deer with a lit cig in my mouth or hand, I cant tell you how many I saw while smoking or shot right after I put one out.
  6. I have a few of them, they all have pros and cons. Wildgame Innovations, I have the IR4, nice cam once you get past the problem of the tabs that hold the battery contacts breaking. I got around that my taking it apart and setting it up for an external battery. Its a fairly inexpensive cam as well. Takes decent pics in the day and night. Moultrie D40 - great flash cam, cost under $100 a couple of years ago and you can get a solar charged battery pack setup for it, so no need to change batteries. Moultrie I60 - just got this one, Ill have to let you know. It has a pretty good reputation. A great website for cam reviews - http://www.chasingame.com/
  7. The walkers dont generally bother me too much, but when guys are leaving the woods or going to their stands and they are talking, laughing, coughing, just being generally noisy, Ill get upset. I dont recall anyone looking at me through their scope, I dont know what I would do if that happened.
  8. I use a Schrade guthook. Its been through alot of deer, small limbs, stuck in the ground, had mice chew at the rubber handle, been sharpened a bunch of times and just plain works. Maybe one of these days Ill get a new knife, but only if something were to happen to this one.
  9. You guys wanna get me started on the Mountain Lions? ;D
  10. I know this isnt a rifle, but it shoots rifle rounds....my baby....TC Encore in 260 Rem...I dont need no stinking slug gun! Why do I use it? For a few reasons: 1 - Cheaper to shoot than my slug gun is (sabots @ $12+ for a box of 5) 2 - Can reach out further than my slug gun 3 - More of a challenge to shoot
  11. There is no such law. Never has been. If I were to get a ticket for it, Id just make the court appearance and have it thrown out.
  12. I love that show.My daughter watches it with me and now everytime she eats a big meal, shes says its "Haley vs food!"
  13. If I shoot 3 deer in a season, the third gets donated. If I get #4, that goes in the freezer, then any after that get donated as well.
  14. Its nothing they just started, they began the process years ago and have continued doing it ever since.
  15. No Im not kidding you. There is no sealed cartridge, no barrel, they do not have to use scopes, and anything more powerful than a red-dot is pointless. Lets see what they have in common with bows, shall we? Limbs? Yep. Cables/strings? Yep. Shoots an arrow with a broadhead? Yep. Uses a mechanical release (trigger)? Yep. Has a short effective range? Yep. Can use a scope or red dot sight? Yep. Sounds like modern archery tackle to me. BTW, there is no such thing as a crossgun.
  16. Id be willing to bet that within 2 or 3 years, many of the "slob hunters" that pick up crossbows would end up quitting because they think it will be just as easy (which is completely relative) as gun hunting and they will be sorely disappointed when they discover its not. Either that, or they will work towards gaining the skill set that archery hunting requires. Many people just dont have the time (for a variety of reasons) that it requires to properly and consistently shoot a vertical bow. Now, I have never said that a crossbow isnt somewhat easier to shoot than a vertical bow, but it is most certainly not even close to a gun in that or most other respects. Face it, the only similarity between a crossbow and a gun is that the crossbow has a type of stock. Every other aspect of a crossbow can be directly linked to a compound bow.
  17. 2003 Chrysler Sebring Coupe and a 98 Cherokee with the I6
  18. So you are contradicting yourself in answer 1 and 2. It stands to reason that if people miss deer with guns and a crossbow is the "same as a gun", then the crossbow cannot be magical and giving that it has a much shorter range than a gun, and shoots a bolt (shorter version of an arrow with a different style of nock and slightly thicker shaft) at a much slower speed than a gun shoots a bullet, it would be far less accurate than a gun. Woodsmanship doesnt have anything to do with drawing a bow. Woodsmanship has everything to do with proper scouting, stand location, being able to get close enough to the deer to allow a good shot, scent control, etc etc. So yes, you did clear a little up for me, but probably not in the way you intended.
  19. I have 3 rifles, but only shoot 1 regularly. I have an old Marlin 30-30 lever action and a Ruger Mini 14 that both just sit around most of the time. Then I have my Remington 700 SPS in 223. I love this gun, and with it being a 223, its affordable to shoot. I have only shot it out to 200 yards so far, because thats the longest shot I have available at the range I go to. Shes dead on at 200 though.
  20. Chevy, since I never got an answer when I posed a couple of questions to one of your fellow anti-crossbowers (is that a word? LOL), Ill pose them to you. Two questions for you. Does everyone that hunts with a rifle or shotgun hit every deer they take aim at? What makes a crossbow so magical and user friendly that anyone would be able to pick it up and use it effectively without a whole lot of practice? You are still shooting an arrow, at a relatively low speed at a relatively short distance (50ish yards tops). You still need every single bit of woodsmanship and skill to get close enough to a deer with a crossbow as you do with a compound. I just dont see any unfair advantage to them.
  21. Last night on the way home, I saw my very first live, in person piebald deer. I have seen a couple of white or albino deer before, but not a piebald. It was pretty cool to see, and not far from my house. It was too far away to tell if it was a buck or a doe.
  22. We have Blackberrys at work now and are looking at switching to the Droids once the new ones are out. One person in our company has the Incredible, and she loves it. Its just rock solid with no issues. As far as service is concerned, youll love Verizon, they are 100x better than AT&T.
