You will get addicted to archery.Just a heads up.Be prepared to be spending all year thinking about bow hunting and saving for gear.Archery will teach you to be a better hunter since you have to be so much more cautious, quiet, and scent free. You have to really scout hard and plan and play the wind a lot.It will get you addicted and pi$$ed off both at the same time. Welcome to Huntingny.

my buddy from work has one of the old "glass"insulated ones.It is all beat up and dented and lasts forever.I actually passed one up at salvation army once for 4.50 with a leather carrying case. Why was i soooooo stupit!!!!! -
ya....like climbing the tree with the climber and strapping in and ready to pull up bow and i forgot to tie the tag rope to the bow. Or drop my gloves or hat or had my release break on me once while test pulling my bow in stand.Bent my rest and lost a brand new arrow and Rage 2 BH.Searched for 2 hrs for that arrow. Forget quiver and arrows, get way out in state land with out my primers for my MZL.Man i have done some stupid things.

man.that sucks noodle. What is your DW?Maybe a new bow like the diamond edge with less poundage. My sons is set at 35 lbs.It is like pulling a baby's bow for real. And real quick for that light of weight. At 20 yards it will easily kill a buck just at 35#.It goes up to 60 LBS.

posted or not posted. It is trespassing. It used to define it in the NY rules and regulations magazine you can get a the store where you get your license. If it isn't marked that is is public land it is owned by someone. If you don't have permission from that someone, you are illegally trespassing. The owner can press charges even though it isn't posted.

energizer head lamp with the red LED'slike 20.00 or 25.00 from wally world.I have two.I always have my red beam on when walking in and out of the woods.I will seldom use the clear light function. This is one major thing i forgot on my list. I take it back about the map.You don't necessarily need the map but it will be good for future references. If you find a rub or scrape or just a good spot you like you can mark in on your map.then you can map out your area for future hunts.Using your compass you can mark what trees are good for what winds.Travel routes with wind and all kinds of stuff.(Then you can put so much into it that when you don't see deer you get pi$$ed,like me.LOL) Dont forget your ID/drivers liscense.I often forget to grab mine cause i leave my wallet in my truck. If you loose your wallet in the wood then kiss that thing good bye.]I put my ID card in my back tag and put tape on the flap.Trust me if you use a wally world back tag they will dump out your lisence when you lean back against the tree.i have had to go back for my tags more than once.So now i tape the flap on mine and my kids back tag.And i dont put the pin thru the metal holes they provide on usual hunting jackets for the tag.I put the pin through the fabric so it wont be so easy to come unhooked. And don't forget the ORANGE.Deer or color blind. You can shoot them in a florescent orange pumpkin suit if you are down wind and still. -

well you wont be in the ADK's so all the survival stuff and maps are a waste.Unless you are hunting alone and might get hurt in the woods and need to survive freezing temps till am when search party finds ya.Doubt that.soooo. Bring a compass any way.its good for many things.First checking where you go in the your routes. You can check your wind directions with it.Then log it al in you memory bank for next time you go there. If checking the radar for wind and such before you go next time you clan plan better knowing your NESW's Dress accordingly. Are you going to be on the move or sitting. On the moove you are going to sweat.Sitting you are going to freeze.Wear wool socks.(i love wool.it wicks away moisture when you sweat). got a cusion or seat? Ok the pack.Bring snacks.Apple and such. hand/toe warmers. knife, feild dressing kit.( i do it old school.Just knife and little peice of string for the anus.) You can do trail tape.If you need to.But its a waste if you don't need it for tracking or marking a future trail. Bleat can kicks ass.Grunt tube. You can scare deer away with calls.be carefull.Especially during gun when they are sketchy. Cell phone or walkie talkie. Whistle is good too.(just in case) Zip tie for your tag. pen for tag. drag for deer. man i'm tired.its all i can think of right now. i hate fanny packs.i put everything i need in my pockets for usual hunts that aint like the ADK's where i may be lost for a while. -
Thats what a"mature hunter" is.

i am cool with all the neighbors already. And i know who hunts and who doesn't.i know who is not allowed where and such.I am not into turf wars. But some people don't care about boundries. So you have to handle that situation a little different. If they just keep trespassing your land after you gave them their stand back and tried to be civil then you get mean. Most of the time the civil thing works. They usually have the same problem. And the neighbors can work it out by watching out for each others land.Kinda like how and area where a bunch of farms all practice qdm. They all work together. It's very possible. But sometimes you have to be mean to the ones that aren't in that neighborly agreement.
-
Ya but thats where the neighborly thing comes in to play.If you take his stand to him and say"here.I don't want you on my land.Thank you."You arent starting a turf war.but is some guy that know the neighbor comes off his land and just hunts where he wants. Then yes.Time to be mean. And keep his stuff.

Treestand placement etiquette on PRIVATE LAND???
arrow nocker replied to regulat0r's topic in Deer Hunting
set your stand on the same tree.Facing the other direction. When the guy shows up just say in a freindly chipper voice."hey whats up bud.Just watching your back.you watch mine.Ok."Maybe they will just think you are crazy and leave. -
wish some one would leave a brand new Lone Wolf climber on my land.

OK... Here is the one I missed in Illinois!

stickers is a GOHST. -
depends on if i ate breakfast and i am hungry or not.Hunger will make you do some awfull things.
-
if i got one it would be shoot thru. But cant use the mechanical rage BH's.
-
haha.i was going to say hunter too.I do this when i hunt the ground.3 mins on clearing will save for a miss on a nice deer when moving to settle in for the shot. Its not a deer scrape is it?that would be the only other thing that would do that, even thou they usually aren't that big.But i have seen one that big in happy valley. In a deer scrape you will see where the hooves pawed the ground "scraping" it up.
