At a minimum, 3/8” cold rolled steel would be the minimum depending on distance and if normal or +p loads, or stationary or spinner.

What caliber? I've got several .22 Cal targets that have survived a bunch of .9mm rounds.

I can't wait to get out of NY. Wife has 7 yrs to retirement. As much as I love Maine, were headed south. Don't want the cold. Not too say we won't visit. Lol. August might sound far away, but it is something to look forward to. Enjoy your time on moosehead. Definitely a special place.

Same sunrise, but from the edge of the lake. Buddy owns a about a 1/2 acre island on the back side of the lake. It's quite rustic, but I absolutely love it there.

Taken a sled accros that lake many times. Beautiful picture. This was taken out of the cabin window on West grand lake.

I like that setup. Why? I'll tell you. Our dogs will inevitably want attention, and stand in front of me with there tail oner the fire... Yep. Burning dog hair stinks bad. Lol. With the large ring around the outside, yours would help prevent that. Disclaimer: No dogs were harmed in this incident....

Where in northern Maine? Been through most of Maine snowmobiling yrs back. Have two buddies that live in Maine. One in Bangor, the other in Holden. Go to West grand lake every Feb for a ice fishing trip with them.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoy our campfires. We're got a metal ring with an adjustable hight grate that overhangs the pit. I place pavers around the ring to dress it up. Don't remember where I got it, but it weighs about 75#. Had it for yrs. Our house is on the market, and I didn't want to list it with it with it in place, so I dismantled it and it will be going to our new house. I miss having it bad. To help get our campfire fix, we bought a used chiminea. It's not the same, but it's a campfire.

Picked up one of those chairs at Wally world today. Little heavier than I like. My back and butt will thank me though.

Who’s putting a bird to bed Monday night ?
mowin replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in Turkey Hunting
Yep, only hiccup is if he follows the same rule book as I'm reading. He's been roosting on the same hillside for the last few weeks. Monday I want to know the limb he chooses. It will determine weather I set up below or above him. He's been flying down into the middle of the field, well out of range. Smart old bird. He's the one I'm gunning for. -

Definitely going out Monday evening. I want to know the limb he's wrapping his feet around. -
I like a simple rub on my briskets. Salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder.

Yes 5 yr old cheddar cheese. I vac seal after smoking. Stick it in the project fridge and forget about it. Cheese gets better with age. As long as the package stays vac sealed, it will be fine. The hardest part is not eating it after 3 or 4 yrs. I smoke probably 30# of cheese every fall so it's easier to leave a few to age.

I have a chamber vacuum sealer. I've found 3+ yr old venison hidden in the bottom of my chest freezer that when thawed, you couldn't tell if it was itkilled that yr or 3 yrs ago. The key is getting as much or all the air out of the package. I cold smoke cheese. I've got ex sharp cheese I've cold smoked and vac sealed 5 yrs ago in the fridge, so why shouldn't Venison properly packaged or vac sealed be good for 2-3 yrs?

Good Lord I wish you all the luck. I've hunted turkey since the 80's in NY. I've killed many with the shotgun, and only a a couple with the bow during the fall deer season. I know I can fill both my tags and a couple youth/first timers with the shotgun. I usually only take one, and let others take a few more in my area. However, my main hunting area will be changing hands this summer. I'm regretting not pursuing them with the bow, but don't regret allowing many others to get the turkey hunting bug. If I had to forgo getting a spring tom with the bow, to allow others to experience the of hunting and ultimately harvesting a tom, I'm fine with that. If I was 25 yrs younger, that opinion might change slightly. Lol

Will be there tomorrow afternoon to see if I can grab one.

Those that have taken a youth out this past weekend and we're successful, please post in the youth turkey hunting contest. The deadline is the 29th.

You know the rules. We need pics, or it didn't happen. Ok.... Congrats on bird #1. Good luck tomorrow on bird #2.

I was probably 8 yrs old, and dad and my uncle butchered a cow. Dad told me to grab the hide and bring it over to the tractor bucket. Him and my uncle got a good laugh at me trying to budge the thing. Lol

Butchered many cows and pigs over the yrs. Cow is definitely a chore to skin compared to a deer. Our beef would hang for 10 days to two weeks. Never aged our hogs.

Definitely had issues with fences before. Had a buddy hunting with me, and we spotted a nice tom strutting all alone in a paddock. The only way to call to him was to come at him from the back side which would put him 200 yrds away with 5 fences between us. Told my buddy we've got a better chance hitting the lotto twice in a row then killing this bird. I couldn't believe it. He'd jump up on the fence, and gobble his head off, hop down and strut to the next fence, jump up and gobble away. Buddy killed him at 15 yrds. Double beard, 24#, 1 1/4 hooks. Definitely the most uncharacteristic bird I've called in.

Do you age your deer? If so how long? Age with the skin on, or off? We have always processed out own deer, and we used to age ours in a walk-in for at least a week... then one yr our cooler crapped out and we were forced to process a couple deer that had hung for only a day. Just long enough to get them good and cold. One was a younger doe, the other a nice 8 pt. When cooked side by side with aged venison, we couldn't tell the difference. We no longer age our venison. It gets cooled, and processed within a couple days. Now, I 100% agree, a properly handled deer from finding it quickly, to getting it cooled, makes a huge difference. IMHO, ageing doesn't make or change the flavor of the meat at all.

Gone through your gear for the umteenth time. You know it's ready, but you still do it. Think I'll go check mine again.. even though I used it last weekend for youth season.
