New to using/cooking leeks. Actually, never used 'em before. Just found a patch. I've often used scallions in salads, BBQ potatoes, ect. But never used leeks before. So, how do you prepare or use leeks? What's your favorite use or recipe? I need ideas..

I've found several snacking on me the past few days. There horrible this spring.

TF, sorry the outcome wasn't better. I'm thinking he's fine... Might have stained his tail feathers a little thought. I can see the hunt in my head.. sun hitting his fan, showing all the iridescent colors, the red, white, and blue head contrasting the colors of the woods... BANG... #@$_$#&-_$#@@. Yep, been there. I feel for ya pal. It weighs heavy on ya. Ya play it over and over, trying to figure out what the hell went wrong. Hopefully you can fool him again, and may your aim not have a tree in the way.

No, I haven't dug up any yet. Maybe this weekend.

Haven't had lamb in years. Mom used to cook a lamb roost now and then. Would love to smoke one some day.

Starting to see lone toms in fields after noon. Was working at my clients property doing the spring cleanup past couple days, same place I hunt, and around 3pm I'm hearing a lot of gobbling on the hills. Really thinking of giving them a week or so, then hitting them hard.

I hear ya. I'm giving the birds a break. Let them calm down and maybe more hens will be nesting. But in reality, I'm the one who needs a break, lol.
-
Well there's your problem, your going after the wrong birds.. turkeys don't squeak or squawk. .
-
I agree. I think the last half of the season is going to be great

Couple buddies live in Maine. They do very well on spring gobblers up there. They don't do well down here though, lol think our birds are smarter.

Congrats to the newlyweds.

Congrats. Nice bird.

Wow... That must have been one hell of a light show. I was watching a primos hunting show few weeks ago. They were in Texas I believe hunting turkey. They set up under some power lines one evening when the birds started flying to roost. There was a big flash of light, a zapping sound, then a thud as a big tom hit the ground next to them quite dead.

Was Mel Torme playing in the background??

Never met pygmy, but I can tell he's a stand-up guy. Glad you too had a good time. Despite not getting a turkey, the time spent is undoubtedly special.

Where u located. My brother is looking for something like that.
-
I believe you have to upload them to youtube or another host sight then post the link.

Ain't that the truth. Just when you think you've figured 'em out, they rewrite the rules.

I love pissing off the boss hen. I copy her exactly, but with a little more enthusiasm. As soon as she ends her sequence, I instantly copy her. More the not, she'll come looking. Sometimes, Tommy follows. I've had hens come strutting in and aggressively purring. Also had em take the tom over the hill on a fast walk. If the hen is just tree talking, I don't get to aggressive. Like TF mentioned, aggressive calling could keep Tommy on roost a lot longer.

That's fantastic wooly. Nothing better than hunting with family. Congrats to you and sis on a successful hunt.

Got back from turkey hunting and had this to take care off

Glad there was little damage, and more importantly, know one was hurt. -
Whoo hoo. So when is the best time to dig some up?
-
Congrats to the successful hunters this morning. I heard a ton of gobbling in my dreams this morning. Didn't even set the alarm.

What a great looking pup.

I've killed a bird the next day in the same spot. I've also not seen or heard a bird in said area for a few days. Unless I roost him there that evening, I'm probably going somewhere else. If he is there, I'll set up in a different location and change up what call I use and how I call.
