  1. When I rife hunt, I'm pretty much meat hunting. Usually if my cross hairs are on the deer, it's coming home with me. It's still hunting in my eyes. I've got to be good or lucky enough to get into my spot without busting the area out, and play the wind weather my shot is 30 yrds or 200. Bow hunting has made me a much better rifle hunter, but it sure isn't target practice.
  2. Wife informed me that since we can't go out to breakfast tomorrow, I've got to take her to dinner so no roosting this evening. Guess Kayden and I will be going in blind tomorrow morning. Tried telling her we'll have one flopping before she gets out of bed, so there's plenty of time for breakfast. She didn't buy it.
  3. That was fantastic. And trust me, your video skills are a lot better than mine. Lol
  4. Thanks everyone... Very proud of the boys. Can't wait to get them out bowhunting this fall.
  5. Some fantastic memories made this morning by all. Congrats to all the successful hunters, and great job to all the mentors that take there time to treach these young hunters something special.
  6. About 18-20 yrs ago, I took my nephew on his first turkey hunt. He was using his older brothers, Mark, 870. Mark passed in a farming accident a couple yr prior, and Adam wanted to try hunting to honor his brothers memory. Adam took a very nice tom that morning. Unfortunately, Adam passed in a house fire in 2011 leaving behind a wife and 3 kids. I keep there dads memory alive with stories of hunting trips, and luckily, both boys were very eager to experience what their dad loved to do. Last yr, kayden was old enough for youth turkey season. We hunted under the same tree as his dad and I did many yrs ago. Kayden took his first, a nice tom on the second morning, using the same 870. Later that morning, Dominic piped up and said he hoped he could take his first bird under the same tree next yr when he would be old enough to hunt. Oh boy.. talk about pressure. Well, I'm happy to report, we did it. Dom took his first sitting under the same tree, using the same 870 as his dad and older brother. I'm not a emotional guy, but got to admit, I got a little choked up. Have to think Mark and Adam had something to do with it. Here's the kicker, Adams daughter wants to hunt next yr. Unfortunately, the property is changing hands, and I know this will be my final spring chasing turkeys on this property. The new owners will be opening up some fancy Inn and restaurant with walking trails throughout. The lucky tree is in the background.
  7. Don't see a issue with leaving it uncovered since it's in the fridge. Love a nice crispy skin.
  8. Roosted a very nice tom this evening with my grandnephews. We know the limb he's got his feet wrapped around. We'll be set up 75yrds up the hill under the tree their dad and I sat under about 18yrs ago for his first, and where the older grandnephew tipped his tom over last yr. Using the same gun too. Really hope I can pull this off. Only hiccup is there's 5 ladies roosted 50yrds below him. Good luck everyone.
  9. Going to be a cold windy morning. Hopefully there talkative and anxious to meet a sweet talking gal.
  10. Good luck to you and your cousin and everyone who plans on going out this weekend. Can't wait to see all the ear to ear smiles.
  11. Did a little scouting this morning around 8am. Didn't see or hear any gobblers, but seen a few hens. We'll go out this evening to try and roost some for tomorrow morning.
  12. They can be frustrating to hunt. Keep at it, you'll tip one over soon..
  13. I had a can am spyder. Sold it, but still frequent the forum. Somking meat forum, BBQ brethren, and other food smoking forums.
  14. I thought campfires we're ok but needs to be under a certain size.. Edit.... Just checked the DEC website. Campfires are allowed.
  15. Love to see what she'd do with a diaphragm call.
  16. Nice pic. We've got a little less white snot here, but still snowing. Planning on going out tomorrow morning and evening to hopefully get a lead on a couple for Saturday morning.
  17. I'm in the southern zone, northern Columbia county. Haven't seen a single tom in the fields this week. But been seeing a single hens by themselves in the same spots, telling me there laying/nesting. Supposed to be in the 50’s Saturday. Hopefully the nicer weather Spurs ( pun intended) the toms on.
  18. Lol. Guess I shouldn't have sprayed down my gear with tick repellant. Should have used waterproofing spray instead.
  19. Some of the therads that have gone south had me wondering if it was the end.. Only been a member for just about a yr, and I was about ready to bail. Lol
  20. About 5 yrs ago on the first day of youth season, a young gal and I sat in a snow storm. Couldn't see 50 yrds. Heard the birds on roost, but they shut up once they hit the ground. Was one of the few times I was glad to get into a warm truck during turkey season. Ended up getting her first tom the next day in the same spot.
  21. Maybe I'll identify as a 15 yr old on Saturday. No way DEC could give me a ticket then.
