  1. Thanks. Yes they look like the pics on here, but you nailed it. That 1% chance isn't worth it. Never had them before, so I'm looking forward to trying them.
  2. Your seriously comparing youth seasons to the school systems policy? Entitlement? Really? Because they got to go hunt a week sooner or with a gun before you? Scared their going to shoot "your" deer are ya?

    Hens

Generally speaking where there's hens, there's toms. Might not see them all the time, but there's know better decoy.
  4. Ok. Found these last week while taking a new hunter after turkeys. He actually spotted them. Are these morels?
  5. Congrats WNY. Sounds like a great hunt. And the misses is happy too.
  6. Well, I didn't set the alarm because of the rain. Woke up to no rain, and a bird gobbling Acrost the street. First tom I've heard from my deck this yr. Oh well. Sitting with a glass of OJ listening to the music.
  7. The weather man actually got it correct for my area. Rain started around noon. Still raining. Supposed to rain until noon tomorrow.
  8. But for them taxidermy doesn't come until death. We pay "tax"-i-dermy all our adult lives and if we've got anything left, after death.
  9. Probably going to spare the alarm clock some abuse tomorrow morning and not set it. Going to be a soaker, so I'll sleep in. Good luck to those that brave the rain.
  10. That's fantastic... Glad you broke the slump.
  11. Ya think. Lol. Was in half strut when he shot.
  12. Met my cousin at the farm this morning. We decided to split up to hit both sides of the property. Heard him shoot around 5:30. I guess he got a little to close to them. He sat down and looked up only to see two birds in the next tree. Oops.. Dont know how, but they never heard or seen him, and a few min later he had a front row seat to one of mother natures finest shows. Two toms on a limb strutting, drumming and gobbling. They flew down into the field and it only took a few clucks to get him in range. He was in half strut when he shot, so he messed up the fan really good. I had a tom gobble probably 50 times on roost 80yd from me. He flew down and was quickly escorted away by some hens. 20 min later I see a lone tom headed my way. Being he was alone, I was hoping it was the big guy I've been after, but the field grass was too tall to see his spurs. Decided to take him, and dropped him at 30yd. Turned out to be a decent 2yr old. Not the best pic, but it's all I got. First pic is my cousin holding his bird. My bird lying where he dropped.
  13. You know what's going on happen.... They will roost by the blind u were in today. If you can roost them to be sure they are there, it's worth a shot. I wouldn't call if there that close though. I've often walked in really early when there heads were still tucked into thier wing to set up close to them. Quite a site to watch em wake up and start the show.
  14. Not me. I glad there's no law against alarm clock abuse. Good luck everyone.
  15. Congrats on a great bird... I've only connected twice with the bow, and both times were in the fall while deer hunting.
  16. I about broke the alarm this morning because I beat the thing trying to shut it off. I'll attempt to get up tomorrow morning, but I'm not to optimistic.
  17. Well I messed up. I've been watching a slammer of a tom. Horse tail for a beard, 1 1/2 hooks. He never roost's in the same spot two nights in a row, and doesn't follow a set pattern wherever he roosts. Never with another tom, even when with hens. Never gobbles on evening roost, gobbles sparingly in the morning. Shuts up when on deck. Had him fold up like a bad poker hand after calling to him. Well today I'm watching two Tom's head my way. Field is too tall to see any Spurs. Walked by at 30 yrds. Let em pass. 80 yrds out they hit a spot on the edge that had no grass. Grabbed the binos, and yep.. the big boy fooled me by tagging along with another tom. Didn't bother calling. Let em walk out of sight and tried to circle him, but never seen him again. Oh well. I'll keep trying to ambush him.
  18. Remember, the way mother nature intended things to go is the tom gobbles to attract the hen which goes to him. We're trying to reverse things. Hens will also start to break off from the tom sometime in the morning to lay a egg. Eventually, the tom may find himself all alone. This is when he's going to be traveling looking for love. He may remember that sweet sounding gal(you) he heard in the other field earlier in the morning, and come looking for her. If your still there, you've got a good chance to harvest him. I hate to admit how many gobbles I've heard from the spot I used to be.

    1st Bird!

Congrats.. Before I worked for myself, I was late for work a time or two because of a slow moving turkey. Think I even once used the excuse I got caught behind a slow moving vehicle.. lol
  20. What a lucky break for that gentleman your son was there. And thank goodness the turkey didn't take 30 seconds longer coming in.
  21. TF. What a fantastic bird. Looks like a horses tail for a beard. And the jewelry!! Nicely done. My hats off too you.
  22. That's definitely a nice bird. At least 3 yrs old with hooks as long as those. I've got one I'm watching with some fantastic hooks. Hopefully I'll get a crack at him.
  23. Not seeing too much difference in my area as far as breeding cycle compared to pervious yrs. Bumped a hen off of her nest Saturday after unknowingly setting up 10' from her for over a half hour. She was setting on 15 eggs. Definitely seeing more Jake's than the past couple yrs, so i do think the numbers are up.
  24. Package received. Kayden will be excited. Not sure if him mom is going to be so excited as he learns how to play those calls. Lol
