Any changes in plans for deer season this year?
Swamp_bucks replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Deer Hunting
Being even more mobile than last year. I've already sold all my stands and now just have the xop. Also to trust my scouting I fell on old habits and old pieces of stateland that just didnt work out well. Last thing is hunting more with a bow than a gun during gun season. I realized after last gun season I completely change how I hunt when I have a gun in my hands when I still need to hunt like its bow season because of the hunting pressure on stateland. I will still use a gun opening weekend but as long as its not 10degrees the bow is coming out. Last couple years I just really enjoy bow more than gun. Also to harvest my first out of state deer in pa. -
Sounds good. We usually go early as possible.

Looked at the schedule and it looks like a couple of us will be making gilbertsville first shoot April 25th.

Cant wait. I have a swing set to put together. Ive been waiting for the 2ft of snow to melt. Plus I want to do some hiking/shed hunting so if half this snow melts it will make it easier to get it all done.

Hr for me so that works

I'm up for it. Dates are up on https://cnyarchery.com/calendar.php. just let me know what works and I'll clear it with the wife.

I know the antler restriction is just 3 on one side and can include browtine in that area.

I'm hoping we see some I know I need to look up some more info. Crossbow use, reporting, tagging,if I take a wall hanger how do i get it back to ny for a mount, can i pack out the meat, ect. So I still have a ton of research to do but looking forward to it.

Yea we have been kicking around the idea for 2 years now. So fingers crossed we can get it done.

Well it looks like as of right now we will be going to pa for a 4 day bow hunt. Right now we have 5 guys planning on going. We will be hunting state game lands 175 and 35 which is located near Hallstead which is just over the border. Dates we are looking at are 6-10, 13-17th of October I would like to go later but most of us have kids birthdays at the end of the month and early november. We wanted a cheap trip and there is a campsite nearby with camper parking, cabins and tent sites for cheap. So I think we can do it for around $200-300, 100 being just for the tags. Since it's only 1.5hrs away we plan on making a saturday or a couple saturdays to go put boots on the ground. I have been doing some scouting using huntstand to find transition areas, saddles, water, ect. Nice thing is being so close it wont be the end of the world to go down another time for a day hunt or 2. I'll be posting on this as we put plans, scouting or anything else for the trip together. This will be all of our first time hunting put of state. To harvest a deer would be great but to go hang out with a bunch of close friends and relax and bs will be good enough.

Advice on what you would do, for this coming hunting season
Swamp_bucks replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
From my experience you wont see many hunters all bow season. Gun dies off after opening weekend so the way I see it it's like having 1000s of acres to yourself without paying for it. The best time to scout a new piece atleast for me is as soon as the snow melts because it will show the sign from the fall really well. Some spots you may need to walk in a mile or more others you might be within eyesight of the road. Just have a plan b-z just in case. I always make sure i have 2-3 spots per stateland just in case someone beats me to my spot first. Which doesn't happen much. Last thing is you are going to have to be more aggressive on your sits and be mobile. If you know where they are bedding get in as close as possible because most deer and especially big bucks wont move outside of their bedroom until very last light on stateland. -
I will catch a nap in the back seat of the truck but my next truck will have a cap so I can make it into a mini camper. Hoping to make that purchase next winter depending if I can find the right truck.

Yep usually just lay down in the back seat. If I'm an hour or so from home and its pouring rain and I know its supposed to stop. That's the most common time for me.

Do it during off season, during season when ever you want. The one piece of private I hunt the owner will ride her horses under my stand with her dog running around and then I'll have deer walk on the same spot they did an hour later. I've learned that deer get used to certain things. If they get used to you walking with your dog they will just watch you. Start doing different things and they start to react. This is just what I've noticed th he last couple years.

Looks like we are going to go to pa 1st week of bow. 4 of us planned so far. Theres a huge chunk just over the border and a camp ground close by we are talking about staying at. Nice thing is it's only 1.5hrs away so we can always make a weekend trip of it if we dont fill a tag during that 4 or 5 days we are down there. Also since it's so close we are planning on taking 1 weekend in the summer maybe this spring before everything starts to green up to do a scouting trip to get a couple spots picked out so we arent going in completley blind. We did talk about ohio but not knowing with covid we are taking the safe bet and just going to pa and maybe the following year do ohio.

Chenango county about 40mins north of Binghamton. I'm willing to drive up to an hour or so if needed. I might have a box big enough to mail it if needed. Would just need buyer to cover shipping costs. -
Left handed mission craze in pink camo with matching sight, also has wrist sling, pink whisker biscuit, stabilizer and a pink camo release. I bought this for my wife brand new 5 years ago. She maybe shot 300 arrows. Just collecting dust so trying to get it to someone who has time to shoot it. Will also throw in some ted Nugent's pink camo arrows. I think they are cut down to 24". Would be great cheap way for first time shooters or a growing kid to use since it has so many adjustments. Asking 150 will travel a little bit to drop it off.

Yea I saw that they all use the tab it does seem to be far superior for accuracy. Guessing it didn't make any difference when it came to hunting scenarios?

As I stated in another thread I just purchased my first recurve. I did buy a glove to see if i like that and to test out 3 under or split finger. My question to anyone who shoots traditional bows which one do you prefer and why? Tabs are cheap so I have no problem buying one to test it out. I will note I will probably be aiming with the arrow to some extent. I dont have the time to practice instinctive and will also most likely have a fixed crawl for hunting purposes if I go 100% aiming.
