  1. If I get hungry enough been known to drop a deer and eat it there. Easier than dragging it. Actually I am thinking of an all day sit on Tuesday. So I might use one or two of the ideas here. Thinking thermos of tea sounds good too.
  2. You hit it ...Hank jr. just hunting instead of fishing. Tried between downpours too. And nothing.
  3. I'm for love and I'm for happiness but I'm against hunting in the rain. Pouring here in cny. Sucks cause the deer are really in rut mode. Gonna sit out tonite. And back out tomorrow. See forecast is for morning hard rain then afternoon a north wind. Gonna have to do some thinking on where to go for that wind.
  4. Same here. Truck is my oasis. Got water for after the drag and usually a piece of jerky in there for after the morn hunt.
  5. Live from the couch sucks harder during the rut! Flood watch here heavy rain and thunder. Noooooo
  6. Gonna add siting here looking at the weather radar with enough colors that it looks like Walt Disney threw up and not being able to hunt when it is go time!
  7. Had action and pm. Didn't shoot but saw deer on both sits. Also pulled a cam and have 2 8's moving around a lot. One day at 11:43am right after I walked thru at 10:30. Hope the weather is ok for am. Lots of deer movement.
  8. Saw a buck in thick brush but no shot. Best part was I took a buddies 16 year old son out and he had a deer within sight but no shot. He's all ready to go again tomorrow now!
  9. Wasn't it the old guy on the movie grumpy old men.....I have bacon for breakfast, a whole plate of bacon for lunch and I drink my dinner!
  10. I am def out tomorrow with crossbow. Parker thunderhawk. It is dialed in and I am ready. Have next 5 days off .
  11. somebody kill something tonite or i'm coming out there!
  12. Glad to see another fellow cny member. Welcome.
  13. I am 4 hours from 5 days off and a crossbow in hand. Can't wait.
  14. Me and a buddy considered going on a Midwest deer hunt. But we haven't cause the best part to me is figuring it all out. Just can't see me sitting in a stand someone else set up and just shoot . But I digress..... We both said we would have to bring fine money for the outfitter too. Cause most of them have restrictions to only shoot 130 or above. And there is no way these two upstate NY guys are passing a deer like this. I was thinking he had to be at least in the 120's but like I said never taped one so have no real idea.
  15. you betcha deal! I might take out an add in the paper! and fly banners over Ny if I get this one.
  16. have never scored a buck in my life. Any idea what this one might score? and weight? I am sure this thread is as close as I will ever get to finding out, but you never know - was curious.
  17. thats not the worst part - that might be the best part....... opening line......."gonna have to end this meeting early today, but help yourself to the donuts I brought in" lol and i wouldnt wear the release it will just cause people to ask more questions and keep you there longer........yes i have been and done a few meetings.....:)
  18. i shoot muzzys on my xbow. (Grim reaper whitetails on compound) Shot a deer last year and it went 20 yards and fell over. I think its the same debate as the bow and same answer. A spork on the end of an arrow will kill a deer if your shot is good. If you already have both i would target practice with them and see how they shoot. The muzzys made no difference on my crossbow at all. Just a preference for each person and what they like to use. Mechanicals yes make a bigger opening if a good shot , fixed are tougher for penetration and bone you may hit. I think you will find either are sufficient, although i am not a big fan of the rage on the compound bow due to the blades come loose if bumped in the brush a lot and dont like how they perform quartering away. Best of luck and welcome to the bow season! best time of year!
  19. i bet you will really be focused for this meeting! lol. Would they notice if you were sitting there in camo with the truck running? good luck at camp. I miss the old deer camp days
  20. I agree. Was gonna tell you guys I'm suffering in the office and relying on you all to show some dead deer. Don't make me take tomorrow afternoon off and come out there! I just got more tags and I'm not afraid to use them! Lol
  21. At a 3 D shoot I once shot the head off a turkey and stuck it in a deer. If I do that in real life I think I should at least come in second.
  22. JMP209 is the guy that should be setting the rules for street cred. He shot a bear and a big deer with a traditional bow and used the same arrow. Sorry he wins!!!
  23. I operate a transportation dept for a not for profit. I have had the chance at several school districts for more money but I like what I do and where I work. Have lots of time off and a good boss. Have had up to 36 employees and 85 vehicles etc to coordinate . But been there 25 years and know that I plan to retire from there now. I did work for the state highway dept for a little while before Cuomo SR laid off 10000 state workers. I was low man. I had an offer to work canals and being young and dumb didn't take it. But you can't go wrong with the Thruway maint dept., Or a school district maint.
  24. Have a very close buddy in corrections. And now he is setup great. But it took years at working at prisons all over the state, sharing appts with 10 other guys for a place to sleep, and then driving 3 hours to see his family. Now he's got a local prison and a lot of time off and can retire with 25 years and do well. But those pensions have changed for sure and it can be a tough road to get there.
