its amazing what shockey does. The places he goes would scare me to death. I try not to even go to syracuse more than once a year and he is Iran, afghanistan etc. I saw one where he was in Mexico and his gun never made it so he had to borrow a gun. Then the locals were gonna come and try to charge him $1000 for use of the gun - he got a heads up from someone in the area. His guide was missing and he couldnt get ahold of him at all. He was on camera telling his camera guy how he had the keys to the truck they had and was gonna be sure to keep them. Then when one of the people there left they packed up and got the hell outa there. he goes to some amazing places and watching it on TV is as close as i want to get.

Live from the butcher shop
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
I don't have a cuber but I do cube steaks. My dad was a chef and he used a heavy knife and it works pretty well. And yes was thinking about some blueberries. Love that idea. Maybe on the next one ( looking for only a buck now). Was hoping to make that blueberry maple sausage with bear meat this year but the weekend I went it was 90 degrees and no bear. But yeah that's a good idea . Might just do that. Thanks. -
It's going to take more than an hour to take care of a deer. Esp if you've never done it. But to skin it out and quarter it, backstraps, tenderloins and neck meat, takes about an hour to take it apart. Then it takes some time to cut it up from there. Esp if you take your time to get all the silver skin off. But can do all that as you go on a table. Thats what takes the longest. But it's all well worth it. And the more you do it the better you get . Got a doe yesterday and have already processed it all for steaks, stew, roasts and made 2 kinds of sausage. I have in my garage a boat winch on the wall of my garage that goes has a cable that goes to a pulley on a rafter . The boat winch takes nothing to pull a deer up . Got winch and pulley for $35 from tractor supply. Just put a tarp under it and can use that to pull deer in and then remains out.

Depends on the location. If I can get in quiet a half hour before light. If I have to get over fences and have an open field then sometimes not til I can see in field to see if there are deer out there . Have learned that going in before light is sometimes not the play if you bumping deer you can't see. Esp if you have more than one way into a stand. Have had bucks right in front of my stand and have them bust me in the dark more than once. Really depends on the spot. And if gun season sometimes it's better to still hunt ypur way in.

15 lbs of sage breakfast sausage to patty up tomorrow and 13 lbs of cracked pepper jalapeño that will be made into brats tomorrow. For second doe. First doe was maple breakfast sausage and bacon burgers. Besides steaks and stew and roasts of course from both.

people get down on these shows because of sponsers. But without them there would be no shows. A sponser pays for their hunt and gear and for them to have a way of life in which they hunt for a living. I would be very grateful and be sure to show it as well. If bear archery or muzzy or anyone would pay for me to go hunt buffalo with a bow in South Dakota i would be willing to carry a billboard on my back for them up the side of the thruway!

there are still some good ones out there. Just have weed out the fake/staged/canned ones. Cant beat the Meat eater show. Down to earth guy that shows the whole process and is all do it yourself hunts. Also "on your own" - this guy does all public land/camping hunts. And often even strikes out like we all do. A lot of these guys are down to earth hunters that made a good life for themselves. Yes there are some terrible shows but dont lump them all into NOTHING worthwhile for sure. Im not a big fan of the "crush" show but its a good story on what they did. Lee was working in a bank or something and one day decided to leave it all as this wasnt the life he wanted and him and his wife bought a small farm in the midwest and went from there. Pretty inspiring!

Might leave a scar but if I was out on a date with her and the topic came up about how she got that scar, and she told me from sighting in a new rifle..........instant down on the knee for a proposal ......i have found her..... lol .

2017 HuntingNY Archery Harvest Thread
Robhuntandfish replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Bow Hunting
Big doe at 7:30 this morn. Shot her and wasn't totally sure but thought it was a good one. So I sat in stand and an hour later another doe and a buck right up her rear end sniffing. I stood up and he went away front the doe and to the left and never saw him again. The doe walked around my stand for half hour. Pee'd in the trail and I thought for sure he would come over. So after like 3 hours I could finally get down and went to where arrow was. I see what might have buggered him . Blood everywhere. So I look up and at 40 yards is my doe dead. Heart punch !! She was dead in 30 seconds. Got two freezer queens. Now it's time to hunt for one with some horns!- 68 replies

Screwed the pooch tonite. Had 4 does put in field across from me. Then right before dark could hear a deer walking. It came right out the trail I have stand at and broadside at 20 yards. Went to draw just as it turned it's head and it looked right at me. So I froze at half draw. Nope ..... shouldve just kept drawing. Had to let down. He stomped his foot. I went to draw again and he blew at me and took off. Not a monster buck but my usual looked like a 5 point. Sure educated him for that stand this year.

I put a dripper over a scrape that was tore up I saw yesterday. Firat one I've seen And does anyone know the Boone and crocket score on grey squirrel. I am guessing it's skull size . But there is a bunch of them out. And if I became a trophy squirrel hunter it would be a lot easier
-
In the stand and yes it's too damn warm.. saw a snake in the road on my over. Is this really late October......anyway put up a scrape dripper hoping for some action close to dark
-
It's hard to believe but got some stuff together for a run to the dump. My arrow was in the to go pile from the doe I shot on the 14th. There was still a dim light on the nock!!!! Go nocturnals. Wow.
-
Lol. I def had Franks with it. It's a must. Also like the green Tabasco.
-
I use them at current scrape areas. I will dig the ground a bit and spray some deer urine on it. Then usually there is also a licking branch nearby. I will spray that a little. Sometimes I have come back in a day or two and the area is tore up. Or put a cam there and got some good pics.

I agree there are some that are just too canned. But there are still some good ones. There are some real good guys on these shows that really are decent guys and have made themselves a great living. Can't stand wildgame nation....stuff like that. But check out on your own adventures. This guy does all public hunting and does these trips all over the US. Or maybe meat eater or Easton. These guys don't use outfitters but come up with there own hunts. They are pretty good. Better than any reality shows out there. Give them a chance. They have to use sponsors or they wouldn't have a show.

There is so much crap on TV , I pretty much leave it on the outdoor channel about 75 percent of the time. Guy on " red arrow" is hilarious. His commercials are even funny.
