so hope so! I have it off and tues too for processing!

depends on the situation and location. I have some stands on field edges and been busted too many times going in the dark. But if i wait til I can just see if anything is in the field nearby it works out great. I can work my way into a stand in different directions if I need to depending on where deer are . In some spots I like to be in early to be settled before deer are making their way back to bedding areas from the field/food. If you are hunting public land and know where everyone else always hunts in the morn a good move is to go in early and setup where they will push deer to. Like real early 1+ hours. I have even had to sit in the stand in the evening well past dark because deer were too close for me to get down without getting busted. I would play it by the location and other hunters and how deer are using the area. Early and in the dark isnt always the way to go.

a guy at work was telling me how he fell asleep gun hunting and woke up at it was dark out and couldnt remember for a few minutes the way out. That would suck.

A lot of people say they get sleepy in the stand, esp if its warm out. I just never seem to have that problem. I am just on point all the time and expect a deer to come out any minute. Guess i dont have to worry about falling asleep and falling out of a stand! But i do check the phone here and there. Of course the mind wanders when sitting there but always expect to see something even at a distance. I have friends who bring something to read.......now that will put me to sleep. Cant read for more than 15 minutes and I am out. But i cant tell you how many deer have come in or gone by without ever hearing a peep. Do you bring something with you in stand? play games on the phone ? or just hunt? or take a nap? lol

i picked up a 2.5X BSA scope that works great for my 30/30. Its a cheap brand but havent had any issues with it. There isnt a lot of recoil in a 30/30 but that scope sure helps out and fits and looks good on the gun. Got it thru Natchez to try it out for like $35. Brightens up the shot window in the big woods and has good eye relief.

New Trail Cam

i have 4 different kinds and really havent had a problem with any of them. After about 5 years of a lot of use I had one bushnell from walmart stop working but other than that all have worked fine. If your just looking for pics and dont need a lot of options, just want to see pics of deer then wouldnt spend a lot on one. I do have one cheap primos that I have a tough time setting the date and time but I just want to know whats out there, i use them just to take an inventory and see if any big uns'. -
What broadhead will you be using this year?
Robhuntandfish replied to Core's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Grim reapers- went back to them after I tried Rages for a while. Grims were sold out so bought some rages and have lost two deer with them. Prob a coincidence, but never lost one with the Grims so I went back to those. Also didnt like how the rages came loose from the collars sometimes. Muzzy fixed blades on the crossbow. Shot a deer at 8 yards last year and it walked 20 yards down the trail and fell over. -
i have to use my pins even at 5 yards cause I have an issue with eyesight that will throw me off. I am left eye dominant but right handed. I shoot right handed because I always have and am well ingrained in that now. But I find it interesting how different sights can be for people. Have read in these forums of people using their 30/40 yard pins for 5 yard shots. Def the proof is in the pudding and have to take that shot at the target before a deer to be sure. Also I have some stands that are 17ft and the ground is level, sloping etc. I also have some 9ft stands tucked in the brush , so the 5 yard shot is a possible one from the stand, just depends on the angle and height for the vitals. But if i were to shoot 5 yards, 10 yards or 20 yards my fletches would be touching all from the 20 yard pin. Good to know. Cant assume anything on a 5 yard layup!
-
I dont , but am shooting 63-64lbs. 29" draw.
-
ok have heard so much about using your 30yard pin for a five yard shot. So i had to try it out this weekend. Well it def doesnt work that way with my bow. All shots 5-20 yards dead on with 20 yard pin. I missed a deer at 6 yards last season and I shot low cause i put my pin low thinking its that close. Now I know better. But that 30 or 40 yard pin for 5 yards practice sure wouldnt work for my bow. Moral of the story - gotta shoot the bow at 5 yards to know for sure!

spray paint that white arbor in Camo and youve got the right setup to sit in! Looks like top pin alley! -
NY law not "my"
-
This was the second time and person at Walmart that has said this to me. They both said it was my law then changed to company policy. Walmart in our town doesn't even sell guns.
-
After hunting breakfast. Little smokies, taters, onions and peppers hash with eggs. And a hopeful pup of course. (He gets an egg, every weekend have a good breakfast)
-
Not a great morn. Got busted on way in by a doe and a smallish buck. Saw nothing after except pics on my cam of the doe at 7:05 and then some dumb ass ( to remain anonymous) at 7:12. Time for some eggs

south of here in the United states can buy a handgun from Walmart off the shelf! lol
-
looks like the insert is on the wrong side. turn it 180 degrees to the other side and it would be a lot closer. The liver should be facing the rear of deer. Its just on the wrong side

bought some ammo at Walmart cause it was a cheap deal. Person at register asked for my pistol permit. I asked why. They told me cause its NY law that they need to see it. (whoboy here we go!) I told them it def isnt NYS law and there is no law unless I am buying a handgun which I am not. Then they said "well its company policy". I was buying .410 ammo (yes for my judge) . I told them I have it with me but what if I was buying this for a gift and this is also shotgun ammo. Why do they need to see it, it really isnt your business to see my permit. Anyway they sold the ammo to me but I was def annoyed. Esp when they touted it as NYS law!

I dont think its irrational at all. But I also understand that people hunt these things. I feel the same way . I wouldnt ever judge someone that did it , but also like Moog I wouldnt. Its just all in what your comfortable with . Could you bring yourself to shoot and eat a horse?? well In Italy they sell horse kabobs on the street and its a regular thing to eat there. Just a persons own comfort zone. Do you shoot a doe with fawns? - again - comfort zone- its your enjoyment to hunt, its legal, do what you individually feel is right for you! I wouldnt hunt a leopard or lion or something like that cause it doesnt interest me. And I hunt for the meat more than anything. Its great that it feeds people there but thats not the main reason of course someone goes there to hunt, maybe a perk on the side. But i would at least want to bring home a backstrap! lol But awesome for Dinsdale. I bet this was an andrenaline rush staring down any of those big damn critters! Would be shaking for an hour after even , wow. -

havent ever been interested in an african hunt cause you cant bring any of the meat back. Would love to be able for my friends and family to try the wildebeast or water buffalo I shot, esp after paying all that money and travel etc. I am a person that isnt interested in hunting if there is no meat for the task - never was interested in predator hunting for that reason. (yes I know its population control, but still not interested in it enough to go spec for that) -
you just hit my thoughts on this over the last few days. I have only lost 2 deer ever and they were both with the rage heads. One was last year and i thought it was a winning shot. I even had a nockturnal on it and thought the shot was good when it ran off. 6 hours of searching the next day and no deer. This year same thing except 7 hours. I have done a lot of deer tracking and helped out buddies many times. But these are the only deer I have ever lost. I used to shoot the grim reapers but couldnt find them 2 years ago and needed blades so grabbed the rages . Yup this morn changed them all back to the reapers. Now a field point will kill a deer if you shot it in the right spot of course, but the rage I shot on Monday's deer i couldnt find had one blade all bent and I think it didnt penetrate as well cause one blade hit a bone. Doe was quartering but should have been down. Might be coincidence but only ever losing two deer and both were with rages ---- makes me switch.
