  1. Elk Guides: Elk Guides are regulated by the Game Commission and the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and offer various services to the hunter. Those individuals drawn for elk licenses will be provided a list of permitted guides before the hunt, although they are not required to use a guide.
  2. Yup, I only put in for antlered. Even paying a guide $2K would be way cheaper than going out west for $5-$6K, also the success rates for antlered Elk in PA is pretty much 100%. If you get selected the PGC sends you a list of certified Elk Guides.
  3. Yup, $10. Can't beat it. Last year a guy took one over 400", which is now # 1 all time in PA and top 10 all-time in U.S.
  4. Now $69,900 http://www.trulia.com/property/3081482002-302-Penora-St-Depew-NY-14043
  5. What really works the best is a cat or small dog tied to a tree. Sit about 100 yards away and wait.
  6. Foxpro Spitfire. I use lightning jack, baby cottontail, etc. Never had much luck with bird distress calls.
  7. Awesome 8 with a kicker, maybe 9.
  8. I don't bowhunt, but that bow looks awesome.
  9. This is my first year ever using a trail cam and damn its addicting. Luckily, the property is about 45 minutes from where I live. I check it every 2 weeks by bringing my digital camera into the woods and swapping out sd cards. If I still lived at my parents house (5-10 minutes from hunting spot), I'd be tempted to check it every day lol.
  10. Just curious....why the big tower blind? how far are the shots? why not hunt from the ground or a treestand?
  11. Both of those bucks have really really white antlers, just saying.
  12. I'm sure it was thought through and planned for some time. It's not like he woke up 1 day and said "you know what, today I will quit my job and move to Iowa". Im sure it was more along the lines of having a decent nest egg of $, buying a farm in Iowa and making some sort of money off it. I also believe he had the right connections, etc. He's not a better hunter than many people on this site would be with the same resources. Good for him, I have nothing against him. All I'm saying is that these guys on the TV hunting shows make it look easy, because they see more bucks in 1 afternoon, then most people do all season! The way they talk and move, etc....if I did that where I hunt and there was a spike 100 yards away from me, he would be gone in a second!
  13. Maybe you are right. I didn't know that chemical engineers make $1M minimum in Minnesota.
  14. $100K job is nothing to brag about in my opinion. Own and manage are 2 different things. Look at the public records in Iowa, they don't much at all. They are managing lands for country music stars, athletes, doctors, etc. Their house (barn conversion) isn't worth much at all.
  15. Don't believe everything you see on TV. Managing thousands of acres, takes many people and lots of $. $ coming from sponsors, and celebrities paying to hunt their land. Majority of the land they "manage" is owned by other people = FACT
  16. Guess it depends on how limited their options are lol.
  17. Not necessarily true. Depends on the type of land and area surrounding. Down here in Putnam County, on small parcels of land with houses and roads and lakes around, majority of the time the deer we see in July and August are the same exact ones we saw in November. At most these deer are traveling 1/2 mile.
  18. Look for deer prints in the ground.
  19. 300 acres seems like a lot to me. I hunt 8 acres between houses and other small parcels of private property. I doubt the bucks travel very far.
  20. I just want to shoot a buck. The best buck to shoot would be a spike that is under 3", this way he can be put on my DMP tag, and then I can shoot another buck.
  21. $20 penalty for bucks under 120? I will gladly come cull a buck under 120" for you. In fact, I'll pay $250 instead of $20! I am not joking!
  22. Couldn't get PM to work....see below: The guns are my Dad's, so I called and spoke with him. A new one would be $2600+tax and the scope would cost $300+rings/bases. Anyway, my Dad said the lowest he would go is $2,200 cash, and will even throw 5 full boxes of 30-06 factory ammo (Remington 180grain corelokt pointed softpoint) + 2 more bullets. 18 rounds in total were shot through this gun. Where are you located?
  23. What's up Mark, glad you decided to look into this site!
  24. I don't depend on venison either, I donate it every year and just keep the backstraps. All I'm saying is that if your goal is to shoot a buck and you passed, then you can't have any complaints. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Where I come from, any buck is a good one and means you had a great season.
