  1. Beautiful buck! Congrats to your BIL! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  2. Congrats! The smiles say it all. You will both treasure the memories. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  3. If I were a deer I'd prefer apples too. So far the acorn crop in the spots I've hunted seems below average. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  4. Not sure you can still apply for DMPs. In 1c you can pretty much show a punched tag an get a dmp until they run out, which basically never happens. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  5. I hunt a doe rich population on public land on LI and will take a doe early, but prefer to pass on does with small fawns. In October, if I see the fawn, the doe typically will get a pass, not always, but generally. Last year, on my first sit, I drew on a doe (with a decent sized fawn that appeared fully weaned). She was spared by a small 8 who made the ultimate sacrifice. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  6. Like Hockey said, if you find acorns i'd suggest you set up on them. Both little bucks I had within range were hitting the acorns. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  7. You plan on deer hunting LI from the ground using a rented car? Wow. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  8. One and done for me generally. I had some replacement blades that allowed me to re-use a couple NAP spitfires, but after those ran out, I just replace the head. Ditto with fixed blades. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  9. Congrats Splitear. Way to get it done! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  10. Venison steak, brussel sprouts, roasted garlic and potatoes, washed down with ommegang whitte. Venison was medium, but probably should have been a bit more rare. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  11. The little guy sniffed my mock scrape, but did not freshen it. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  12. Spike at 5 yds. Now 3 yds. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  13. A flock of about 10 turkeys just walked by at 50 - 70 yds. The 2 at 50 yds were hens, the others I could see well enough to judge, but they looked big to me. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  14. 4th sit of the season and 4th spot. Stalked a doe on my walk in, only to realize it was a fawn, when it crossed the trail about 20 yds in front of me. Made a mock scrape about 12 yds infront of my stand. Will try to check back later in the month to see what develops. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  15. Wouldn't touch the trail cam. If there was good deer sign, I would not hesitate to hunt nearby. The person owns the camera, not the woods or the deer. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  16. Hunt PMs, given your inability to hunt early AM. Get in early and walk slowly looking for fresh deer sign or deer, preferably into the wind. Choose a spot 20 yds downwind of the fresh sign with cover, or build a brush blind with fallen branches. Clear leaves and brush around your feet. A bucket or chair or log to sit on will help you sit high enough to see and draw the bow with minimum movement. Think positive. This is bow hunting and even though there are lots of deer on LI, you still have to be in the right place at the right time, which are fairly long odds. Put in the time and it will happen. GL. 17. Forkie came to within 12 yds. Photo is when he was around 30 yds. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  18. I'm in for the PM watch. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  19. Fawn and scruffy looking doe passed by at about 40 yds. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  20. 2 does, 1 fawn passed by at about 80 yds. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  21. I'm in. Yesterday I hunted a spot I had high confidence in and saw nothing. Today I'm hunting a spot cold...hunted it only once before, many years ago. Can't see fewer than zero deer, right?, so here's hoping Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  22. First sit of the season. Walked in slow climbed slow, still sweating like a race horse. Thankful for the little breeze that just picked up. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  23. Oh the pressure of this contest! Now I feel compelled to poach the spike that's a regular behind the house. Lol. Congrats zeek. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  24. Nicely done. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  25. Did the gutless method on a doe i killed last year. Did it like Randy Newberg did on the video. Quick and easy. Downside I did get more hair on the meat than if I had hung the deer also, I did notspend a lot of time trying to get every scrap of neck meat, but foxes have to eat too, and there were a pair in the area.
