Best wishes for a negative test result. Good luck. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk -

I got tore up by mites or tick larvae (often called chiggers locally) a few years ago on LI. I don't go in the woods without permethrin. As far as treatment, I used the chiggers stuff others have already mentioned. Hope you get some relief soon. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

I went through a similar decision last year and chose the 308. I plan(ned) on only owning 1 centerfire rifle. I am an occasional rifle hunter (I primarily bowhunt) and had only shot borrowed 243, 30-06, .357 & 30-30 previously. I narrowed my choice to 7mm-08 or 308 based on a planned mule deer hunt in CO, but also wanted a rifle that could be used for a variety of non-dangerous game, should I get more into rifle hunting once I can no longer bowhunt. I am happy with my choice. Factory ammo is (or was) widely available at reasonable cost and in a variety of bullet weights suitable for hunting at reasonable distances for a number of North American game species. I have an old Hoyt from the 1990s, that I "retired" many years ago, but kept around even though i've been through 2 bows since. Last year when the string broke on my current bow just before season opener, I dusted that old bow off and flung a few arrows, because I thought my current bow would not be restrung in time for the first weekend in October, which would be my first hunt of the season. I was surprised that I still shot it well with the old xx75s, but it is sloooow. Nice and quiet though. Got my bow restrung in time and back it went into retirement. I've introduced a couple friends to archery with that old bow. It is forgiving and easy for newbies to use. I start newbies with fingers and low poundage and move them to releases and more resistance if they can handle it. I think it is has 50 pound limbs and 50% let off with round wheels. I think it depends where you hunt. Public land on LI is a thoroughfare for hikers bikers, atvs and people in general. I think deer get accustomed to human scent at least on the trails. Deer almost have to cross those trails at some point to browse in the neighbors backyards. Welcome to suburbia. It may be very different in other places. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

Suffolk County requires hunters to wear 6" × 6" min. orange while bowhunting on County properties. I have never seen anyone follow that rule. If I am not bowhunting, I wear orange, but I hunt public land. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

I am adding orange para cord this year. I've left it behind at least once, but remembered when I was only a few few into the drag. No such luck with my bright orange butt out tool, which I left in the woods last year. Go figure. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk -

I've used the Buck crosslock for the past few years. I carry a 2nd Buck knife, a blade trader, just in case. Handle on the crosslock gets a little slippery with blood plus field dressing gloves, but it is quick and handy. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk -
I tried the Summit mini Viper in a tree today. It is a keeper - light and sturdy. The narrow yolk, made the blunt teeth bite, so no need to break out the grinder. I am not a fan of the seat, but if I had to I could live with it. The seat sits low, relative to the top platform, it isn't particularly comfortable, and its bulk gets in the way considering the smaller dimensions of the mini. I will order the hazmore and see if I like it better. The stabilizer straps work well. For my short frame, the straps are at least 2 feet longer than I will ever need. I prefer my API, but due to its weight it is being semi-retired. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

Works like a GPS. Can mark stand locations, rubs, scrapes, downed deer, last blood, etc. Gets you to within 20 feet or so. Helps identify public land boundaries. You can e-scout and mark areas that you are interested in and navigate to it. If you already have a Garmin or similar, On-x does not add that much for navigating. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

Definitely use airplane mode. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

I used on-x in CO last year. It was very useful. For Long Island, I really haven't used it, as I tend to go to a spots that I am already familiar with and some of those spots are small 25 acre parcels. Out west, a section is 640 acres and is considered a small parcel. If you are hunting large parcels or unfamiliar ground, i think it will be useful. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

Her is a photo. The safety line is slack, the the tether strap is secured to the tree and to the harness....if that makes sense. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

I don't disconnect the safety line I just attach the strap from my harness to the tree. As such, the safety line is doing nothing, but it isn't in the way either. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

If it works for you, go for it. I haven't mixed arrows though. I have 4 sets of arrows that perform about the same from my bow at my usual 20 yd hunting distance. This is the 1st year that I paper tuned my arrows even though I've killed and recovered numerous deer over 25 yrs without doing that, or measuring what my foc was, etc. I like improving my set up, so I can be the best that I can be. Paper tuning, measuring foc, confirming spine charts, etc....and most importantly, practice, make me feel like I've done that. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

I returned my safety line from Dick's clothing store (that's all they are now), that was recalled and bought the HHS safety line with the refund, so it cost me nothing. The HHS looks like standard climbing rope, 7mm accessory rope and a caribiner, but for $20, it seemed like a no brainer. It would cost me as much to make my own. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

Beer and cigar after ending archery practice today on a high note. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

What a difference a day makes. This was my 5th set of 3...... not my first shots, but after yesterday's debacle, I figured I'd share. Started at about 20 yds and moved back each flight. The first 4 groups were saucer sized, which isn't great, but better than yesterday. Declared victory after set 5. Now onto cigars and beer! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
