  1. X2 what Moog said. I had assumed the human scent around the gut pile would make deer shy, and/or that deer would instinctively avoid gut piles (areas that would attract predators), but that does not seem to be the case. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  2. For climbers, I like API and Summit in that order. Lone Wolf has good reviews, but I have no first hand experience with them. I don't like x-stand. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  3. I had my trail cam monitoring a rub (3 trees/rubs close together all being worked) behind the house for 2 weeks in video mode. In that time, the rub was hit night and day by a 7 pt and a spike who have been regulars. You'd think it was a huge buck by the size of the rubs, but the camera showed otherwise. The bucks would even eat some of the stripped/frayed bark and does also stopped by to sniff the rub. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  4. Happy Birthday Mowin! Good luck out there today! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  5. ×2. I seldom hunt AM. However, I like seeing the sunrise and the woods going from black to shades of grey to color. Usually, followed by the realization that there are all sort of twigs and crap obstructing my shooting lanes. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  6. Congrats to all who got it done over the last few days. Haven't been seeing much the last 4 sits in 1c with the bow. So far today only 1 young fox and squirrels, lots of squirrels. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  7. Brute of a deer! I passed a 1 point 1.5 yo last yr and had an encounter with a half rack this year 2.5 yo with a drop point on on the other side in the same spot. The drop point actually had the makings of 3 points , but nothing long enough to count as a point. Wondered if it could be the same buck. If so, and he lives 1 more year, and I could encounter him next year that would be cool. I like freaky deer. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  8. Great buck Engraver. Congrats! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  9. Talk about deer being tough. That was one tough deer. Luna and you were darn tough and persistent as well. What a team you and the pups make. Kudos for the effort. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  10. Rather than think the worst, I am with Mowin, this might have been a poor shot by a well intentioned hunter, with little blood trail due to gut plugging the wound and the deer was not recovered. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  11. My only experience hunting the Hamptons on LI was in a swamp 2-3 times. Nobody was out in the swamp except one other hunter in the adjacent parking spot each time. However, lots of bikers and walkers on the public roads. I did not run in to any anti-hunters, but figure if you go to the Hamptons frequently enough, odds are you will run into some. 12. Congrats TF and Mr. J! Awesome! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  13. Best wishes to your wife for a speedy recovery. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  14. Sorry for your loss Wolc. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  15. Encountering more than the allotted number of hunters is fairly common on LI public as well all sorts of other walkers, bikers, motorcycles, atv riders, off road trucks, horseback riders, etc. I haven't experienced anything as bad as the OP has, but I can relate. I've also done the drive 100 -150 plus miles upstate to hunt and that gets old fast. I've adapted to suburban hunting I guess. For what it is worth, weekdays are generally better. 16. Good luck with recovery Chef. You put in some time this year. Hope you get him. Should be cool enough overnight. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  17. I mostly bowhunt. I've grunted in 2 bucks. One is on the wall and the other I missed due to arrow deflection off a twig. Both cases the bucks were making rubs and could not see where the grunt was coming from. Have had no luck with the doe bleat can. For me, grunts work best when the deer can't see where the call is coming from. Nothing seems to work when a buck is tending a hot doe. The grunt can get a buck to stop and take notice, but is less effective if the buck has good visibility and can see that there is no buck there to make the noise. Last Monday I blind called (grunt) and had a doe come in downwind a couple minutes later, but not sure if she came to the call, or if it was just coincidence. I always have the grunt call with me. The doe bleat mostly stays in the truck, but I take once is a while, just in case my luck changes. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  18. Biz has to score big tomorrow in WNY to bring Team 1 into contention. Here's hoping anyway! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  19. Sad to hear. Dogs are like family. My condolences. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  20. Very nice buck Phade. Congrats! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  21. Good looking buck squirrel! Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  22. I use the same recipe that crappie uses, over polenta. You will not be disappointed. By far my wife's favorite venison dish. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  23. I believe the OP is hunting relatively small private spots. Here, I think common courtesy should be not to use someone else's stand when 2 or more hunters have permission. If the idea is to keep spots hidden, even climbers leave telltale signs, especially on pine or soft bark trees. But climber sign is less obvious than a hang on or ladder stand, and may go unnoticed. 24. Squirrel I am 5 exits away from Manorville if you want an extra set of eyes. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
