So how far are you guys on your "Honey Do List"?
landtracdeerhunter replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
Their would be nothing to do with deer hunting on the list, so., we forgot the list years ago, LOL. -
On a 30 engine hp., 4 cylinder diesel, we always sold a 66" width tiller. The ideal would be to cover both wheel tracks, but u may want to go with a 60" width and offset over to cover 1 wheel track, with a 26 hp.. It will make a big difference what tire u are running on the tractor. The turfs and Industrials will be the widest, with the agricultural tread being the narrowest. A slip clutch on the tiller is a must. Make sure it slips ( loosen the spring bolts and tractor rotate the pto for a few), every year before first use. A gear driven outboard gearbox is also a nice design, never having to adjust the chain inside.( which know one does until the chain wears through the cover). The rear cover should be spring loaded adjusted, to level the tilled soil. I like to land plow first on my clay loam soil, as it makes for a deeper seed bed in the end. I would stay away with the lower priced (China) tillers. The medium $ tiller are nice and most today carry a super warranty.( $2000.) Edit: A hydrostatic drive tractor will be about 3 hp. less than a clutch model on the pto..

Maybe we were half thinking about Spring Turkey Season, LOL. PS. Still thinking about that knife, are we?

Was worried about no poults here, until witnessing 2 hens with 4 poults last week. I believe it to be one hens poults with the other keeping some distance. Seen another this am. with 3 poults, not to believed to be the first, but can't verify that yet until the flocks go together. No pics yet, but I'll get some, hopefully soon.

We didn;t need it here. It was just starting to dry out enough to get in to plow some of the lower fields. First year, I needed front wheel assist to bale hay. Anybody know if u can mud in radish?

Use Vaseline on your arrows, LOL.

Oh I agree on the tractor, totally. I'm just saying, u survey the hunting community. Most will buy- own an ATV way before ever considering a tractor. They buy the ATV, spend big $ on them, then decide they want to get into food plotting, few years down the road, and find out their ATV isn't worth much. When I was selling large volumns of farm equipment, many people had ATV's to trade and I just had to send them up the road. Just a bad deal.

wild pheasant in NY
landtracdeerhunter replied to mike rossi's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
We don't have the people raising the pheasants from chicks in our area. We always released 90+ birds at 15 weeks, ( with a game warden), through the 4H club. So did several neighbors within 4 mile radius. Pheasants were common to see. The modern generation don't participate in 4H, as much, and it shows going to the local fairs. The few birds that do get released, don't have as much of the wild in them, nothing more than hunting chickens.- 29 replies

Most people already own an ATV, so I can see their point on just buying some implements for the back. A few ATV implements, do a half way decent job, but very few. Most lack the design and weight. An ATV mounted spreader is very handy, saves a lot of walking. They are siturations where I could take a ATV in, but not a tractor. They both have their place.

I can see the mistake of pumping gas into a diesel, not the other way around.

Yeh, what did she have, a funnel? Wonder how she got the diesel fuel past the little flipper thing?

of the New York Big Buck Club record book and took advantage of the "advanced order special." Hope to be getting the 17th edition and the 15th edition, all for the super great price of $29. This special goes on till August 15th. Already got the 16th edition when we went to the BB dinner in 11. Can't wait to see some super nice deer from NY..

Radish with no-till/groundbreak
landtracdeerhunter replied to phade's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Grow's got u on the right track with those little carried tillers. They till a lot of ground in a hurry, especially loamy ground. They don't like rock though. I had a Mantis for a while until I sold it to the neighbor. My soil is to rocky and the thing kept flying out of my hands. Good luck! -
Actually with the amount of habitat NY. has, % wise, NY does an excellent job at big buck harvest representation. We don't want the word to get out, to many of them "out of stater's" would be flocking in here like they do in Ohio, LOL.
-
A 3 point hitch implement is the way to go. See u have the loader on, good for the counter weight, but not good for the front axle of the tractor.

I's being done across the state every year. Just pick up a copy of the New York Big Buck Club book and be amazed inside. Those are only the recorded ones too, still more not recorded.

Remember the electric problem?....
landtracdeerhunter replied to growalot's topic in General Chit Chat
Glad to see u got in the cool again, LOL. Nice to see someone repairing a appliance instead of kicking it to the curb, or sending it to the scrap yard. I see many appliances junked, instead of having the necessary repairs done. The rule of thumb for any frig or freezer is- when cutting the line to remove the compressor for salvage, if freon escapes, that unit could of been repaired by the right person. A constant reminded of the throw away life style we live in. -

I always keep my families appliances going. Having a HVAC background helps. -

Roll the dice grow, and hope u come out a winner, LOL. I've got an LG tractor and an LG car, pretty reliable. -

How old is your fridge? Is the freezer warm also. If u have to buy new, stay away from models that put the printed circuit board controler in the fresh food compartment. The moisture attacks the connections. -

We have had a Magtag for 9 years. It has trouble with the automatic luver that regulates the fresh food compartment since we got it + I just had to put a evaporator fan motor in it. The ice maker is worthless. The Magtag repair man is not lonesome, LOL. -
What's your best remedy for poison ivy?
landtracdeerhunter replied to First-light's topic in General Chit Chat
Glad to see your recovering. Not being able to catch it has it's dissadvantages also. My misses caught it from me over the weekend. I moved a towel over on the rack, she then used the towel and tranfered it on her back. I'm ususally very careful, and any washing applience I touch goes right in soapy hot water in the washer. She's a little peeved at me right now. -
A fair size 8 visiting.. Actually Lawdwaz, it inproves the flavor of the meat, We use to round the pigs off on corn for a few months to fatten them up, before slaughter. You can always tell what an animal has been feed by how the meat taste. The amount of $ their making off the deer industry, I'd eat lobster, LOL. I would worry about CWD with the deer gathering in one spot all the time.

Found a turkey feather where I had tomatoes last year. Yep, they remembered. Flock of 18 cleaned up every ripe fruit on the plants last. To add inssult to injury, they pecked a hole in the green ones. Funny how on the one year, a garden doesn't get planted, how much we miss it. Summer just seems incomplete without it.
