A heads up on this people on a serious issue. Their wide spread across Western N.Y.. They spread rapidly and in 2 days, can destroy a field. IT's not unusual to have them, but this year mild winter and early spring has brought them out in huge numbers. Their larvae are nocturnal invisible pests that spread very quickly. They are 2 weeks ahead of their predators, egg laying flies, with a virus that disperses across the fields and kill the larvae. They prefer grasses, wheat, and corn but won't turn their noses up at lawns, and other vegetation in a pinch. They are wiping out entire fields. A second and third wave is possible throughout the summer. Having trouble posting pics this morning. Maybe someone could post some of the larvae and moth. Thanks.

So has it been tabled or what. Anyone know where the Deer Management Plan is now?

Hope shes not a turkey hunter.

Impressed he's staying in the open so long. He's gonna be huge. Good luck with that one.

Illinois archery season runs from 10-1-2012 to 1-20-2013 nonstop I believe. I could live with crossbow season, second half of archery season if we had dates like that.( If we had to compromise) How many hunters would be out their after Christmas anyways. Well, I know of one, LOL.

Nature at its finest. Thanks for posting. -
Doc, a lot of people have been spoon feeding you. The information is right in the Land Management section. It's called what's working for them. I see success. It's just not in deer harvest either.Yes, their is need for some logic, but excess just makes it to dam complicated, kinda takes all the enjoyment out of it.

My recurve is all waxed up, bow sling installed, strapped in a hard case. The crossbow is housed in a strapped in hard shell case. Both stored in a dark location. I question whether the arrows should be stored in their respective compartment above the bows, but that's where they are.

Got a nice start. Deer are looking great this year. Enjoy getting those velvet pics.

Got some more heavy weather moving through. No hail but heavy rain and cloud to ground lightning. Heading towards Rochester area.

Yep, the doe with fawns act totally different now verses hunting season. Is that the IR 40 with the solar panel? -
No minimum age in Texas. The parent determines if their child is ready to hunt. Now that has a nice ring to it. Does that go with all weapons?

Would like to use the locals more, but their price is higher. Got some fir 2x12x20s one time from local yard, beautiful stuff, and well seasoned. Not to many years ago, no HD,Lowes, all local yards, boy times have changed.

Always wondered if the tension should be backed off on a bow.

Cabelas 3-D huting camo
landtracdeerhunter replied to erussell's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I looked at the bug suit leafy camo style for turkey. Didn't think it would hold up that well, very flimsy, and not worth the extra $ ( to me). The regular jacket/pants combo would be well worth the investment, but I've got 3 set of reg. now, well maybe room for a 4th, lol. -

Yep, kinda wish would of got the pumpkin-squash seeds in. Nice rain that'll do a lot of good. Going to try liquid fert, on them this year. -
In feeding deer, any excess would mean a person has accomplished their goal in what they set out to do. If certain plants-grains have been browsed to the max, the goal in successful feeding has not been accomplished. It's a trial and error effort, having to feel out a specialized area due to deer denisity changes per any given year. Experiencing waste is always going to be common, if your goal has been reached. Some years, I feel success, others, not. At least I feel as though my part of giving back to what has been taken, is heading in the right direction.
