  1. I'm proud to be a bowhunter, dam proud.
  2. I bought a sizable amount of lumber from 84 lumber back a few years ago. Lumber quality was good. They had quite a size pic bin The clerk u start with is the one that you sees waving when u leave the yard. Got to say their consumer relation skills were great.
  3. Heres a swarm I picked up today. About 4000. The 3rd pic is what I mean by marching in like soldiers. The 4th, bees were flowing up the front of the hive to the top. They smell the new wax.
  4. Don't understand why all negative comments and attacks on this business. Seems like a decent place to plan a nice hunting trip, if that's your fancy. If you don't agree with this type of hunting, that's your choice. This is not the New Yorkers I know, Come on.
  5. Interesting combo, soybean, hemp, and sunflower if I understood you correctly.
  6. Seen a large hen with 3 good size poults yesterday in a semi cut alfalfa field. Field was loaded with weevil. They sure were enjoying the feast.
  7. If you have a cell phone on your person, already being tracked, on or off. They have everyone number.
  8. Have to agree about the quality of the lumber at Lowes, HD. The only thing that I have capitalized on is, purchasing in the reduce section. Sometimes they have items that come in handy, for yets say material for not so perfect jobs. Last year, picked up 5 square of 3 in 1 roofing shingles for $40. Come in handy for some out building, tree blind, or that new cooler that's in the works. Also pick up bit and pieces of building products at savings.
  9. You have some beautiful country out there. Fine looking animals.
  10. Never smoke swarming bees. Their weak from swarming, and can be damaged. Capture the queen, have the swarm. She flows through the cluster, communicating with every bee. Trick is to find her when she surfaces. Put her in a queen cage, put in a box and the group will flow right into the box. It's really a sight to see watching them flow into the box, like a bunch of military soldiers on a march. Fence post are a little tougher to remove a swarm. In a tree. I use a card board box and shake the limb, holding the box underneath, all in my shirt sleeves. One thing, if your afraid of them, they know it. Stay Away! Call an experienced beekeeper.I never loose my respect for honey bees.
  11. Family 1st, then hunting. They all hunt! Everything else falls into line. It always does.(not misspelled)
  12. What a nice site to see. They are, more in likely, a swarm from someones hive. Natures way of increasing the herd, so to speak. When space becomes limited in the hive, bees will build a new queen feeding a regular bee royal jelly. When the new queen hatches ,becomes strong enough, she will drive the old queen from the hive with about half of her loyal followers. Thus, a new beginning. As Doc mentioned, Many problems plaque the modern honey bee. American Foulbrood has always been a problem,Nosema, Varroa mite, and Sudden Colony Collapse where the worker bees leave the hive, never to return. Pesticide posioning is believed to be the result of the last.I lost several hives in 2007 due to this. Use to harvest a ton of honey back in the days. Have takened many a swarm off of objects in past years. Trees, fence post, tractor roll bars, and even off a cars steering wheel on Main street. Thanks for posting that picture. Go back and get yourself, what appear to be, a nice little gentle swarm of honey bees Dave.
  13. Just had pea size 20 minutes ago, heavy rain, with bad lightning. Watch out Genesee, Wyoming counties, heading your way.
  14. Yep, honey bees. Had a few swarm since 1974. Loud noise drops them, drowns out the queen vibe. Only thing I had on me was my turkey call. Should of heard the turkey call going off, but wasn't enough to drop them in a tree.
  15. Yes, Huntingny Bowhunters. I think ELMER got an idea!
  16. Fine job. The second pic will be a calling card for trespassers come November, when that lush wheat calls in the deer. Wheat is always an excellent choice, but the view from the road will stop some of those, yets say the ones that aren't followers of the law. I have to be very careful what I put near road view. Made the mistake one year with soybeans, never again.
  17. Did a fine job. Nothing like clover to please the deer. Looks like a great bow spot where the rewards should pay off.
  18. Found this of intrest. Could N.Y. be in line for this? What are your views? w viginia deer bill.htm
  19. It will be interesting to see how the sunn hemp works out for ya. Seems to have a 3 fold purpose for it's use. Keep us posted with pics.
  20. I f you have apples, consider lucky. We have no apples, wild or crab, no cherries, no peaches, and few pears from second new growth blossoms which seems rare. Oaks and hickories look promising here. Added seed for more pumpkins.
  21. Just broke the news to the misses, bow's starting October 1st. Hey 9 months for you, 3 months for me. Somehow, that didn't seem even to her? Now, don't know how that new bow idea gona fly. Right out the window, lol. Guess better wait and let this digest for a while.
  22. The deer love ripe pumpkins. I started with 1/5 of an acre and have expanded yearly. Last years, I grew butternut squash, by accident actually, and found they consume them also. Pick out a few good ones for the family and leave the rest. I try to leave 15-20 % for the wildlife of all other crops grown. Funny, I leave the best for the wildlife, some people think that's crazy. Guess they don't see it the same way as I, the give back thing.
  23. On the Tonawanda part, their are a lot of islands way out that know one hunts. Like 16 ga said, everyone hunt within a few hundred yards of roadways. I see some big deer takened off some of those islands. My son harvested a large doe, 2 years ago Besides the waders, a good gps might come in handy. Everything start to look the same when way out.
  24. From what I have read, Drury Outdoors have stopped using them. The claim was that to many hunters pass through the place and the same stands get used over and over again. I cannot confirm this however.. I always enjoyed watching their hunts there on dvd. Here is a link of some reviews, some good, some not so good. Hadley creek.htm
  25. That's a nice parcel for corn, soybeans. Do you harvest any of it for yourself?
