  1. Figured I'd get this thread going again. 28 days and counting. Can't wait to get up Tuesday morning, May 1st. Told the boss (me) wouldn't be to work till 1 pm.. What's he going to do, fire me, ha ha. Get up at 4 am., be out in the blind by 5:15; got to say really getting pumped. Can't wait to feel that fresh spring air pouring in around you. Got a bug suit on order, the skeeters are gonna be bad this year. They always are. Hopefully, the ditches won't have 3 feet of water in them this year.
  2. Deerthug, I agree. Thinking that way- you've won far more than any lottery.
  3. Nothing more than another form of goverment tax, a tax people are happy to pay.
  4. Yep, If their's any to harvest. Skin and put in the freezer. Make a nice mount- I hope.
  5. Anyone doing any fishing in the smaller creeks. What are u catching? Looked a two yesterday, waters way down for this time of year. Haven't started yet, but looks like I will soon.
  6. Weather man says clear and light winds. Not good. Their will be loss, no doubt, and higher prices to boot.
  7. Heck, I'd give up a DMP any day for a new lawn mower, wait......... Is it one of those SP pushin ones or a rider tractor? Guess either way, you got some great inlaws. Congrats. on both.
  8. Their planting sweet corn right now here on the ridge on black plastic. Corn by the 4th of July. Get the ground turned over so it will warm quicker. I like to chance first plant by May 1st with treated seed. It will take a little colder ground. About 400 lb of 15-15-15 fert to the acre. Keep an eye on some sweet corn growers around you. That'll tell ya when to go. Also, plant your pumpkins seeds right in the corn row. Space according to packet instructions. Will use the fert. from the planter. Also helps if you need to cultivate. Happy growing.
  9. The first sounds of turkeys.
  10. Thats great. Another N.Y.S. big buck. Thanks for the update joe.
  11. Happens quite often these days. The last 2 stands we purchased were short. I replace the grade 2 hardware with grade 5 anyways, for a little extra safety. I don't trust the chinese hardware. Counterfiet hardware is also a problem. Finding good U.S.A. hardware won't be found in any TSC, HD, OR LOWES.
  12. We're at least a month ahead, weather wise. This is definitely one for the record books. Western part of the state is heading for the warmest March on record. The jet stream dives far south out west, and pushes way north in the east. Such a long streak of mild weather. Not seeing to many therorys on why this is happening. A little worried that early breeding and laying is going to happen for the birds. The red wing black bird males have established territories, waiting for the females, which are due back in 2 weeks. Robins are enjoying feast of earth worms, that have already surfaced, buds are swelling on the trees, misquitos bites, people ctting their lawns, all on March 16 th. It's likely to flip over, so enjoy while it last.
  13. A little different than above units. I have a Butterball cooker smoker combo. It will cook a 14 lb turkey in 2 1/2 hrs.. Has a pull out tray to put wet wood chips in for smoking. Thermostat control to slow cooking times. Wouldn't trade it for anything else.
  14. What a beauty. Think it'll beat Mark Surdi 217-3 gross, 205-1 net 17 pointer; Erie County top archery buck from 1996? Got a good shot at it.
  15. Any country that threatens another to wipe them off the face of the earth, doesn't need nuclear power or weapons. It's time to count our losses in Afganastan, pull out, and step up to the plate with Israel. Obama, be a commander and chief, take a stand!
  16. Now, they have to freeze back three times, for spring to arrive.
  17. Hoping for a good hatching, so the numbers will rise. A little worried that mild temps now will lead to a cold wet spring. Can't believe, I was in shirt sleeves yesterday, spreading fert. on the hay and wheat fields, not complaining though. No wet spots to hand spread this year.
  18. Eddie, those are pretty good pics. What brand bino cam? How far away?
  19. Wheat fields are greening. Alot of tracks seen as I frost seeded clover.
  20. That is one thing I like about design of Moultries, the 1/4 by 20 tapped hole in the bottom of the camera, for an adjustable mount. Keep us up on the pics.
  21. Last year during the second weekend of turkey hunting, seen a buck with new growth that was big velvet rack. Coarse, they always look bigger in velvet. Seen deer in velvet that early before , but never that size. I would guess that he started growing early, being the size it was, for that time of year. Tried to swing around to get a pick, but the old boy caught movement, and was gone.
  22. On a year like this one, you may see alot of strange things. I wouldn't say that is not unusual for some. The ones that have had good nutrition, and no injuries, can keep'em quite a while. Some are still pack'en here yet too. Going to give them another week, before looking for sheds.
  23. For the light thats available, that pic is very useable. How is the quality of the night pics? Like the idea of the D battery use.
  24. Might be a little early, but with the mild temps, one would think things to be opening up anytime. What model Int. is in your pic. Nice rest..
