  1. I don't know the reason and hopefully someone else can say. I purchased 2 full chokes for the 870's, both saying, do not to use steel shot with a full choke. I was thinking damage to the barrel.
  2. Eddie's right. Theris only one true New York team, The Buffalo Bills. Still like the Giants over New England, 28-24. Anyone watching the Pro Bowl?
  3. Use to make 4 gallons of maple syrup back in high school days, many many moons ago. We heated it down from 50 gal. of sap. That was some of the best flavored syrup. It was takened from silver maple trees on the farm. Two things I remember very well. On a warm day, 40, better empty the pails more often, as the sap ran out of the tree, at a very fast drip. Second,When getting close to the finish product, watch it closely, or you end up with maple candy.
  4. In todays world of inported products, it has never been more inportant to grow your own food. Don't know about saving money, but sure is nice to know what your injesting. And with all the work, fresh vegies sure taste all the better. Our garden is all planed out. Seeds will be in hand by end of Feb.. Have some early spots where onion, radish, and lettuce will be planted, hopefully getting dry slot in April. After this 5 inch snowfall we had this morning, kinda puts the damper on things.
  5. Those pics are great. They deserve to go under Hunting Related Pictures, so more people can view. Thanks for sharing
  6. Really, a tree can produce 200+ gal. of sap. Maybe depends on the year? Colder the better.
  7. The penalty should be alot more then what it is. Hit them where it hurts.
  8. Enjoy shed hunting. It's a great way to get out in the field. Did it for years, still haven't found one yet. Think all the bucks move south for the winter here. Have noticed some colorful birds from Canada flying around.
  9. Transplanted some 18" red oak trees yesterday, that were started from seed. No frost in the ground, have the extra time right now. Never did this in January, hope they live.
  10. Someone mention 12- 21- 2012. Don't like that date at all. Not one little bit. Think it's the last day of deer season this year, oh no.
  11. I've got pullets, can't say ever thought about making stew out of their feet. Might be good to the nearest foot. Sorry, I tried.
  12. It's tough to say what u will like, body size is the biggest key to comfort. Get out there, look at alot of stands. Going to be tough, beause most places don't even have them set up to test out. You can't stand on the floor and say that one looks comfortable. Got to get in the saddle, so to speak. We have mostly good ones, the others we use in places where a 10' height is ok.. Was into Gander, the other day, looked and grabbed a few stands. Compare to our stands, which we own many makes, some are approching + years, they felt alot cheaper built. Also, don't reley on the side, seat supports. Most will bend fairly easy., no matter what u pay. Get yourself a good body harness.
  13. Thats a great point. I knew of one other person like that. They would flush a turkey, before shooting, like a pheasant. More sportmanship to it, when asked. Never agreed with this, but they use to harvest some nice birds. Used a 12 ga.. because the more pellets in the air, the better chance of hitting.
  14. WNY, I see, you found your first one, congrats. Report from the Field- Been over soybeans, corn, wheat, hay fields. Alot of activity in wheat and hay due to the greener than normal grasses. Alot of pawing in the light snowfall. Looking in woods , active field trails. Taking advantage of light snow falls, and sunny days with no luck. Enjoy the milder temps and enjoying the new deer signs still showing up. Alot of mud. Their are bucks out here with head gear yet.
  15. Highly recomend chickory in with a legume mixture. Have planted clover, chicory mixes for years, and will continue to do so. It does spread in certain conditions, but can be elimated by plow down. Don't mind it growing, even in other crops. Several types of wildlife enjoy it. Over the past few years, male turkeys seem to drawned to it more, in late fall. Looking for research for the reason.
  16. Nobody likes cuts, they are a politicians end to their career. We'll all going to face the music, and it's going to be painfull. Inflation has run wild and nobody says anything about it.
  17. I'm just worried about the liitle things that are looming in this country, like the debt, unemployment, defense, foreign policy, defense, etc. etc. etc..Some say, Obama will start campaining tonight with his big speech, heck, he's been campaining since 07.
  18. This email may be a hoax, but his socialist platform is real. Can you believe in socialism? Obama has showed us what he can do as president, nothing, except damaging health care , rammig it down, the American publics throats. This countrys campaining has become a celebrity contest. What's happen to the real issues, this country is facing? All have been clouded by nonsense. All for the news media benefit.
  19. Thanks for the reply Pygmy. Makes sense. Always used the Rem Nitro turkey shell in the 12. Go with that in 20 also. Believe they call it the pipe site. Takes me enough time to zero in on the target. Always wondered how a scope would do, hunting turkey?
  20. Just picked up a H S Strut undertaker full turkey choke at Gander last night for Rem. 20 ga.. Looking for a cost effective load to sight in with. Some say to use 7 1/2 game load. See if I can end the dry spell with my 12.
  21. Have planted pumpkins in with the field corn for several years now. Space according to packet inst. right in the corn rows. No weed spray can be used, as I don't use them anyways. Outcome depends on year. Dryer late summer, they hit ripe ones early, think for the water content. Last year, was that type of year.Got them planted late June, because of wet ground. Grow faster when I use liguid fert. esp. in dryer soils. Always harvest a few for jack o laterns, so had to get out early. Deer went off of them through most of bow season, hitting them hard again, in shotgun. They eat holes in them to eat seeds, then go for the pulp. They don't leave any unless, handled, hitting them last. Also. decomposed manure under the hills work well at holding moisture. Add more nitrogen when doing this.
  22. Hard to stay out of their bedding areas, but know it's way to early. Know. their still packing their gear, because new rubs were still showng up, as of last week. Usually don't go in till March. Maybe that's my mistake. The rodents might chow down.
  23. What shell, choke tube are you using in that Rem 870, 20 ga.? How effective is it? I'm going out with the 20 ga. this May. Thanks in advance for reply. Food plots are legal in N.Y.. Their are tons of debate on here about them.
  24. Well, if you drop'em in October, don't have to worry about sheds now, lol
