  1. But if there is illegal activity such as criminal trespass charges then the land owner would ne better protected. Just a thought.
  2. Again if the person hunting the land gets hurt the land owner can be sued with written permission. If there is written permission than the land owner better make sure the hunter carries liability insurance. Any company that leases land makes sure of that. A verbal agreement without written consent is hear say and owner can have criminal trespass charges pressed against hunter which then gives land owner a defense. I am no lawyer but thats how I have had it explained to me.
  3. I like the seasons the way they are in the southern zone. I hunt bow from oct. 1rst till first week end in Nov. I then switch to crossbow, starting this year till erd saturday in Nov. I hunt gun till muzzloader then hunting season ends. I dont think its broke. I have good success. Oh and i take off time and pass on alot of deer till I decide to kill
  4. I dont get written permission. A smile and hand shake seem to work. I also try not to be a stranger. The problem with written permission is the land owner is then legally liable if i get hurt and i do not want them to be accountable. Without written permission they can press criminal trespass charges on me which gives them a defense against me if myself or my family was to try and do something so ridiculous.
  5. Got myself a crossbow barnett doa, before season . Got giants football tickets for my boy, father, and me new years eve. against the skins. They are giants fans, not me. And a drone from my kids, gonna see how that can work with scouting. Grown man with a remote control holicopter.
  6. I work very hard for permission to hunt private land. I ask alot of people, and offer my time in exchange. I get told no alot but a few will say yes. I help one guy fix vehicles in exchange, another i posted his land using xmaps for borders and keep his trails cleared. Another i posted and am there eyes on the land. I mow a camp site on a piece of property for 1 person. I always offer the land owners some meat also including my family. Currently i have access to 7 different properties cause i spend time looking for access. It takes more of my time to get access to private land then it does to scout and set up for season but its certainly worth it. Merry christmas all.
  7. Put a huge treble hook in there like one you would use for sharks, and stake it down good. Just dont get caught, lol.
  8. Had a misfire 10 or more years ago. I had a traditions at the time. It happened maybe 2 hours after i had shot the gun. Guy i was with used a knight and his wouldnt go off neither. Couldnt tell you why. One thing i always do after cleaning at end of season is put bore butter down barrel and on breech plug for storage. Prior to getting back out always take apart and clean. Then shoot a couple caps, load, shoot once, then make sure its shooting straight. I find a little bit of a dirty barrel shoots better.
  9. Congrats jerry. Sounds like a great morning out in the woods
  10. I see alot of people change to camo when muzzleloader starts. Pretty normal in my area. I personally want others to see me so i stick with woolrich and orange vest.
  11. Congrats wolc123 on being a successful hunter/killer. Some people are just softer than others.
  12. Heat will harden metal and make harder to drill. You already started drilling so i would keep going. Thrust is a good lube to keep on bit to keep cool. When it comes to drilling slow and patience are the 2 best things to have. I probably have more experience than most in doing these things.
  13. And at that cost how many fewer hunters would we have? Or perhaps that is what some would like. A sport only for the wealthy.
  14. I joined this site this year. I am not a member of any other social media. I like alot of your opinions. I do not agree with some of the hunting tactics and things wolc123 says but what i have seen i would bet dollars for doughnuts he would have recovered that deer.
  15. Nope. I pay enough in taxes already. A hunting license is just that. And 40k plus good benefits isnt a bad for starting pay. Benefits are an added cost
  16. Nope. I pay enough in taxes already. A hunting license is just that
  17. I am not justifying what they did. I just think you gotta look at bigger picture and what it would really cost to prosecute a person for poaching. Not much. I personally find poachers, trespassers, ect. to be great bullsh** artist when confronted in the woods. They are more scared by an individual who is not strong armed by paperwork and not sure who you are. Big paul said it correct, when the community sticks together the poachers will find somewhere else to go cause conflict with the community is worse than it is with the law
  18. So an officer makes say 40k plus benefits to start minus overtime. So now we are looking at least 70k . Who pays for that? Currently if 1 officer is responsible for 200 miles radius and we want to reduce that to say 50 miles that would be 4 times the eco's we have now. I currently pay almost 100 dollars a year and would not be willing to pay 4 times that. The higher expense of a license would increase the amount of poaching imo.
  19. I agree. That is much better. Volunteer services. But to lock them up and cost tax dollars that are not there isnt really feasible. Fines are good if the person pays and maybe a deterrent however that fine money will not go towards dec.
  20. I agree. That is much better. Volunteer services.
  21. Its a shame when people are out there poaching deer. It can grind your gears when people do stupid things such as this, and trespassing, and hunting in different ways that you feel is not right. In the big picture of things there is alot worse things occurring in this world that deserve law enforcements time and money. Sometimes we all need to take a breath and look at the bigger picture. People will always break the law but should we be spending big tax dollars on poaching or should we spend it on larger crimes that occur everyday. Humans are the most sadistic to each other. Funding is limited and you have to choose where it is best spent.
  22. Just talked with my buddy, spotlight is fully charged and 22 is sighted in. Going out hunting in about 2 hours. Dont wanna be out there too soon, the farmers may still be awake
  23. I was always told any month ending with ber.
  24. Not really. I would take the comforts of the g8 over the 69 camaro. Old cars dont have the comforts of modern technology and 400 hp. Is pretty cool.
  25. Never looked at it like that before. So minus holliday weekends and family business i have about 30 days to move stand, scout what survived hunting season and get ready for next year. Figure 1 day out of the weekend.
