clover is just starting to green up... you most likely will not have a lush green carpet of clover by fall. most clovers take a full year to develop good roots and tops in my experiance
-
sunflowers are great and deer love em and you get something nice to look at.

I've posted these before but at the behest of belo:
-
I had pumpkins the deer will step on them and eat them. They are sucesseptible to powdery mildew, and uncles you spray cultivate you will probably have problems. I still grow some mixed into edge of corn fields ...if they grow great if not no big loss. I wouldn't recomment growing them just for deer.

an 8pt with gun in 2000. 146 1/8 didnt enter it. bear 2012 18 13/16th didnt enter it. bow best 10 pt. 137 1/8 didnt enter it.
-
its fine, i get my game scored i just chose not to enter it, i know a few scores and there are quite a few more on this site. i have nothing against the organisations that keep/the books or those that score.. just more of what happens to peoples egos when they make the book.. trophys are supose to be rare, just seems thats all any show talks about or pushes anymore...not everyone will get a top 10% animal but thats what makes trophys special.....
-
If that's the case then all the animal would be entered for free when measured...instead they charge..though its only a few dollars.. its not about the animal at that point...
-
To me a score is a good measure to see how it compares to others. To make book its usually in the top 10% of its species . Its a good reference point for myself and how I continue to learn judge game. To enter it in the books is a pure ego trip for the person entering it.imo like having your 30 seconds of fame. I only look as a hunt as a contest between the game and myself sometimes I win and sometimes they do . I believe that contests in general and record books are part of the antler craze and "bring down" the sport as a.whole placing hunting into a trophy hunting category in many non hunters minds. As a whole the celebration of trophy's is degrading to the sport in many non hunters minds.

James Spinelli SPINELLI'S TAXIDERMY. 2560 Voorhees hill road, Wellsville NY (585-593-4756). Has won many taxidermy contests and does all the work himself.. good prices excellent work. (He does book up and can and will turn you away if he's full) does that so turn around is good and not overbooked as to rush a job. I had to beg him as my bear was last game he took in with understanding on longer turn around time. He's one of the best bear taxidermistsI've seen. In my opinion lots of people do deer well but how many bear have they mounted? Good at one doedoesn't make you good at other animals..as much as they tell you they do anything..they do specialise in certain game. For example: I use another taxidermist for fish that does 7 other taxidermists fish(and you pay the jacked up price)that's this guys speciality , yes his deer are good and as is his other game..but no one beats him at fish.
-
wasnt bad at all 2800.00 including base. ive seen people pay nearly that for half mounts. detail in mount is exceptional.. lot of work in a bear.

antlers are only a basis if you know the area and deer from that area well. by its horns if that was at my place it would be a 2.5 . body charastics are much better to go by, but after 4.5 i admit all i can tell is that its older than 4.5 and thats it.. use of trail cams is a great way to keep tabs on specfic deer and can throw an experts aging right out the window. A good example of this was a nice 10 point i knew to be 3.5 . happend to be taken by a friends aqaintance just off my property last day of muzzloader. The expert taxidermist told him it as 2.5 looking at the teeth. I happend to run into the hunter and had photos of that buck for 3 years which i gave him.. he took that to the taxidermist and the responce was "well i'll be dammed never would of said 3.5." and he had a dead animals teeth to look at at legnth..

Looks like a possible 3 year old or goo d. 2 year old. Either way should be a good buck next year.

i assume you have a multi year lease..so you are the owner in a sense. A good local neighbor on your side is well worth letting him/her on it when your not there.just make sure they know to follw stipulations of lease (no atv's for example.) they can put you in a good area fast, and keep an eye on your trailer/truck campsite. my big stipulation for people i let hunt the techacally arent part of "camp" is if they get something i would like a pic of it for the hunting journal/scrapbook. i have great neighbors and in the years turkeys are slim they prefer my neighbors to roost on i have access to that property as well. as well as a guard when i owned but didnt live there (93-2006). as well as my driveway plowed all winter and free mechanic work on my car and equipment should i need it. Personally i think your doing it the right way but i would talk/introduce yourself to the neighbors first..saves you time and chance of injury if they take down their own stands..

I've bought property and posted it took down stands and placed them at base of posted sign on trail onto property from neighbor. came back two weeks later and the stands were back up in the same trees. i then cut down said trees with the stands in them, smashing them to pieces.... my name and address are on all posted signs and i am listed in phonebook at said address. i was nice once.. i'm all for the i didnt know it changed hands but i placed posted signs on every 4 wheeler trail entering the property and properly posted it according to nys laws. if some one asks to hunt i usually lay out a few rules and let them, but i am surprised how many don't ask. i even had one guy ask and was hsocked i told hiim ok , just let me know where your going to be.. he told me he heard i was a deer nazi and wouldn't let anyone hunt..fact is if you didnt ask, i booted them off . took 2 years but the tresspassin gproblem went away and i am know as evil owner to the tresspassers and to the few that have asked over the years i'm their best kept secret..... In your case i would place a posted sign right in the 4 wheel trail and place the stands at base of tree they were in. i would also go and i would go and introduce yourself to all the neighbors in person and tell them you have leased the property. one might tell you well i've hunted there for years..say well e now and its mine now and i would appreciate if you would stay off or give them option to go on lease with you and patrol it for you when your not there..( do this if you get a good vibe from the person only) they might also own land adjacent and give you access in return for tresspass rights. always meet the neighbors and be courteous . i did when i bought my 1st piece and have access to hundreds that theey own as well.. better to get off on right foot than not..
