I just got some turnips (purple top) in the ground today. i have found them to be a good attractant in early bow after the 1st frost (about 3-5 days after). and then they are hit hard dec-march. i took 2 years for the deer to find out what they were... i have had no argiculture around me for years and it was dissapointing the 1st year. but the deer came back with a vengance the 2nd year. I plant them early as i never seem to get enough rain after early july( the bulbs just get bigger is all(softball size) especially wanted to get them in early as this year looking to be a strong el-nino (makes a dry hot auttumn in my area).. I have mixed them with clover most years i plant. winter rye or wheat would be a good split field as it would give you some good turkey hunting in spring as well.

My foodplotting progress...
G-Man replied to Glats109's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
looks good, but iI hope you made a sanctuary area. Bucks can't grow if they are peressured. 22 Acres is small but 2-3 acres of no go area will help more than any food plot. -
just a common bolt and lock nut in place is usually enough to deter someone..they dont carry wrenches with them..most thieves seem to be opportunists.

G-Man replied to Pav2704's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
yes, it depends on frost it it will dry down... but for a food plot plant it. el nino this year usually gives us a warm dry fall and mild winter.. this year looks to be a big one.. -

browning a-bolt , but expect to pay 2-3x the value of the gun for good optics if your going to make a good combo -
.22 long ,shorts and long rifle.. find an older used 22 and make sure it shoots all 3 types.. longs and shorts are easy to find and are 1/2 the cost of long rifle. or .223 single shot h&r is a good plinker. personally a .223 is loud.. much prefer .22 shorts no one knows what i'm shooting. and doesnt wake up neighborhood.

Collecting Old Bottles, China, Other Things
G-Man replied to landtracdeerhunter's topic in General Chit Chat
I find quite a few bottles including some stonewear dating to the 1600's , my friend is an avid collector and i usually just give him the ones i find but every so often he gives me some cash for an extraordanary find. english stonewear, and a colbolt blue medice bottle from the 1860's. i know where a few old homestaeds use to be and their dump areas. its fun when i have time and my friend gets more excited than i do when i bring them over to him. -
i wouldnt recomend trimming this time of year, sounds like they were pruned pretty heavy, this winter/early spring trim back the suckers of new growth, do not heavily trim back an apple (wild) as it will sucker profusly you better off doing int a 1/3 at a time. or the tree is heavily stressed.

The original brenneke slugs work well thru brush and small trees.. hard antimony lead.. but if I had a choice no brush shot is best, but you can't get em if you don't shoot at them....

Never been scoped, but had a 50 cal black powder handgun i was shooting come up and hit me in the forehead with the barrel.... no blood but didn't fell good and it will shoot 150 grains accuatly..though I've scaled back' to 90 grains

Question regarding angle of entry of bolts on targets
G-Man replied to Dr Ignominious Death's topic in CrossBow Hunting
the pile diver shafts are probably stiffer , you might want to bump up to a 125 grain tip and try it, photos can be decieving you can tell the difference in person much better. -

G-Man replied to Dr Ignominious Death's topic in CrossBow Hunting
your either not cocking string correctly , or spine of bolt is to stiff or too flexable, or your point weight my be to light. -
