  1. New licences will not go into effect till fall..
  2. Had to re-order forms 2x, moved(repositioned) leg and turned head to make this custom bear mount.
  3. well, a couple of form changes and modifications and the mount is done!!
  4. My father had just passed and his friend who was a big call maker decided he would take me turkey hunting.. I had a good idea where turkeys were and we headed that direction. He let out a owl hoot on his prototype tin juice can owl hooter and we got an answer from where I thought birds would be. as we crept in the woods he asked me how far I thought we were from them I told him 100 yards and we should sit.. he said nope and we snuck to within 40 yards and could actually see birds roosted in the trees.. then we sat. He did all the calling. 2 Toms and 13 hens flew down and disappeared just over the edge of the bench. A little calling and they all came up 30 yards from me.. i shot the 1st tom that entered the opening. 18Lbs 8.5 Inch beard. The rest of the birds flew everywhere. He asked me which way the other tom flew. We went 100 yards in that direction and sat down , after twenty minutes he made a lone yelp and a bird gobbled 70 yards down the hill below us. Another yelp and he gobbled back at fifty. Again at 30 yards when his head popped up onto bench ..bang!! My instructor had his bird a 20 lbs tom with 11in beard. The way back to the cabin he asked if i knew why we kept hunting.. i said no. When u miss or break up a group as long as werent on alarm. They would want to get back together same as a fall flock. Just wait 20-60 minutes and call soft. He also told me he knew I killed the smaller bird and couldn't have a teen anger show him up as he was well known....lol

    What to Buy?

bargain cave at cabellas, sportsmangude, clearance...camo patterns are for people to look at, you dont need camo at all...not moving and slow movements will get you close to any game. buy clothes you can layer..a light layer you can put over warmer clothes or wear by itself. is a good versatile garment. your warmer clothes can just be regular clothes you are comfortable in.. remember a deer can dissapear quiickly and its just brown and white.. paying big bucks for a pattern is crazy.. more deer have been killed in carharts and red and black or green and black plaid wool jackets than by camo patterns.. my neighbor still hunts in plaid coats killing turkey and deer doesnt matter to the animal at all 78 years of hunting cant be wrong. his advice dont fidget, and move slowly when you must...
  6. https://csx.taleo.net/careersection/2/moresearch.ftl?lang=en&job=158840&sns_id=more C.S.X railroad hiring positions in buffalo, syracuse(dewitt) and albany(selkirk) anlong with many other locations. get off the couch, need a job change? get up and apply!!
  7. you have to know where th e deer winter from dec-april...get permission and look around food sources , trail to and from and bedding areas... seem like shed hunters are usually pretty good hunter and sucessful as well...scouting is not a right before season thing , but year round. Make sure you get out and look as soon as you can..there are a lot of shed hunters and some areas may have been picked over many times before you even hit the woods.
  8. Doc you ever see this test??? the kids find a gun in toy box test 2 sets of kids... kids who's parents had guns immediately got an adult and told them there was a real gun in the toy box.. kids with no guns allowed parents picked it up and shot it at each other( was non firing but real hand gun)
  9. I always have good luck on the 11-12 -13th... maybe cause I'm off for my birthday and. Hunting those days.. I always believe there are a few early does as well.. usually a few days to week or so ahead of the main breeding doe group.
  10. Coyotes do kill birds but raiding a nest by coon, skunks, and possum is a much bigger issue..one a poult can fly it can evade a ground predator pretty easy..but it has to hatch and make it 10 days first... dry warm spring reduces scent.. and elimination of egg eaters plays a big part as well...
  11. Seems there is more land being bought by the state every year(latest 2.5 Mil acre purchase).... and it being all in the blood is not correct..nutrition plays a big factor... your penned deer need to be fed high nutrient feed to realise their ppotential..wild game given the same can be tremendus..think of the recordbook racks that are au naturel...what if they had highly nutrious feed??? all in the blood is the cry used by the Nazi to have a reason to eliminate others if I remember correctly.... here is a great example..asian carp brought here escape and enter missippi... now native fish are on rapid decline. Or nutria destroying the swamps in the south .. just escaped ffur bearer brought here on a fur farm.. pythons are killing alligators in Everglades and the endangered american croc. ....just a pet that was let go... you won't see the damage until its to late... but make your money now.. and be.happy I'll stick with wild natural game... these great genetic deer your producing when escaped are quickly bred back out of them in a wild population..a good gene is passed on to the young as it is nessary for survival... apparently antlers are not.. 3 gen removed and the big gene is gone....
  12. So the full moon falls Nov 6the this year, and according to alsheimers formulas. The rut should fall classically.. seeking should take.place Nov1st - Nov. 10th, with chasing falling 8th-17th. With breeding following for ten - 14 days or the 13th-27th. this will place main breeding during the opening 2weeks of gun.. or if youhunted in 2006 it should be the same as then ..... I'm lucky if I can remember last week.. hope this helps if any one is trying to schedule vacations...
  13. Just starting to break up out of winter flocks by be...seeing singles with 3-4hens apiece , goobleing sporatic as they can see for miles..no green up yet.
  14. Non native is non native . Cervids differ from continent to continent. Internal parasite and bacteria that may prove beneficial to on may be the cause of death to another. The fact you do not see this shows you do not know any research on introducing species.. and the historical results every time they have been.I have worked palentologial site for over 25 years and have seen evidence in bones of introduced ddiseases, and loss of species due to change in habitat. Your cervid is a cervid falls short as well, humans are humans.. but what happen when european man comes to the Americas 90% of native population is wiped out bintroduced dieseses by the time the pilgrims got here the Indian population was 10% of what it was only 100 years before..... As for a yearling inside a fence beating an yearling outside.. make the conditions the same... supplemental feeding of wild game outside to same levels inside the fence. As the the pretty ivory..can't eat it so why try to genetically enhance it if not purely for profit... its not a healthy thing for the deer. (Ever hear of Irish elk?) You post should of just stated look I just sold my first overseas shipment! I hope there are many more to follow! . I don't see how it relates to saving the world.. destroying ecostytems and no native flora and fawna yes..yet i'm sure your pens have a good bio diversity of flora in them and all the other creatures found with in them are present. Your a farmer for profit that's it. .... This is not an attack on you personally just the industry in general. I wish you the best in your venture i only hope you seriously look at what happens long term when your great grand kids have to deal with it and your long gone.
  15. Problem is cold and wet ground = rotted seed. Some will grow but I bet you lose alot. 50Degree ground temp is best. I know well your going to say frost seeding... clover grows in colder weather and its seed coat is hard..it still doesnt germ till conditions are right, (warm enough) the frost is used to get it down for seed soil contact. rye n fescue do not and will try n sprout quick and then freeze and drown . Maybe where u are the frost is out of the ground but i can only get a shovel in 4-6 inches and ground temp is 36 right now.. even my tree orders have been pushed back by the nursery as planting conditions are not close to being ready for them.
  16. Problem is caged things escape, fences break... doesn't even matter if the have cwd..I could care less about it..facts are facts..animals/plants/(even mold spore found in hair)(internal parasites that are even looked for) released in non native environments by accident or on purpose wreck havoc on native species.. by competing for and destroying habitat through eating, walking, or any other imagine able way to change it..
  17. Its never a good idea to introduce a non native animal/plant to an area..it always leads to problems...pigs, nutria, cats, rats, pythons, snakeheads, peacockbass, gobys, starlings, house sparrows, emerald ash borer, Asian longhorn Beatle, the list goes on and on... death and destruction of native animal and habitat result 100% of the time. And no matter how clean an animal/plant checks out something hitches a ride or it pushes native animal out of its nich ...... destroying the world is more like it.....
  18. That's the best part about hunting only till noon..the fishing time
  19. Scout the edge of the open areas see if you find some dusting bowls even if they are old it proves turkeys will be there.. most likely they are not there now as many flocked up for winter and are still in winter flocks...what ever you do don't call... all you will do will be is to educate birds that might be there that you haven't seen
  20. The DEC is in the middle of a hen study to determine the decline and the nwtf has asked people to not shoot fall birds the last. two Years in nys . All reintroduced creatures have a boom period where populations are extremely high. We could be in a settling out phase where populations are stabilizing to available habitat or have predators lerned how to take advantage of turkey now, or is it weather...or a combination of things.. a little late on the study imo..but better late than never in the mean time i'll keep after skunk, coon, possum, fox and coyote.... and try to keep nesting and bugging cover available..
  21. Depends on a lot of things..how many heads the taxidermist took in, . Shipment to tannery several times or at end of season or if he did himself. does he do all the work himself; or does he/she have others doing work(that's usually when people are dissapointed in results , show you their work and someone else is the one who does it...)I've seen heads back in 3 months to heads in 6months, a year or heads back in two years. I have a taxidermist by me that is 2-3 years behind after suffering a gash to his had and suffering tendon/ligament.damage. People still take stuff to him , personallyI wouldn't get into that situationn.and would find someone else.
  22. Severe cold and deep snow more than 10 days= dead turkeys. Population is down from 10 years ago,but habitat has changed a lot since then as well. Need nice warm dry spring for a good hatch. They can rebound quick if conditions are right.
  23. Still looks like a winter flock...hope they stick around for you...
  24. The muzz tag is either sex.. as for no training required it states you need to complete an online course and have proof of completing it on you.... now the problem I see with that is enforcement....
