Deer have to eat and what they eat is a factor of temperature, corn, soybean, acorn, nuts are all cold weather foods. Grasses ,clovers, alfalfa are warm weather. Where the deer are will be the thickest most undisturbed cover adjacent to these food sources. now that gun is over in 3 or 4 days they will start to return to normal patterns if left undisturbed, this is the basis to the 3 to 5 day skip stand hunting rule. It's also the reason I believe the holiday hunt mid week maybe the best time to hunt. Also the reason for shortening the season and making it split.

Found some great deals on allen slings at wallmart after the season ,have the nice silicone knobs on them that grab fabric well . 5 bucks for a 20 dollar plus sling.

I'm into traditional songs, burl Ives, Bing Crosby, Brenda lee.. the funny ones are funny but not Christmas to me.

I see this pop up every year, the author doenst like snow a d doenst like high hunter numbers , yet many zcome here to hunt from Ohio and Pennsylvania. ( 2 much better states according to experts) hunting is what you make it, belive the adds to tell you to go west , that one's been working for centuries. Average size deer are common everywhere. The big ones are exceptions everywhere , you see the same buck on 3 different TV shows ( d ew eels apart of course) and in 5 different magazines.. ..

Shoukd have a mother and daughter ( 1st time here ) and father and son For tomorrow both kids are 12 hope they have an opportunity at least been quiet here with no one hunting most areas for over 2 weeks. Temps dropping hope they are up and moving

Again I believe shot was back , and not tallow but internal fat plugs same as guts. Unfortunately she was on edge of swamp. , a bigger hole from larger caliber would be nice never cared for pin picks ,as with any shot accurate placement is key but larger calibers seem to give more leeway than smaller..

It's a simple question of bigger caliber bigger hole. Shot seemed back by looking at hair. Small holes easily plug from fat. Or simple hide shift

As far as I can tell it fell off though it made result of fight as I have another 8 and this one both on cam 2 days ago each missing opposite halves of racks

Friend hit a doe. While looking for it I found thisunfortunately have small tuft of hair and no blood, 243.. said it bucked when she shot it at 30 yards . Will continue to grid search for blood...

Surprising light winds ,but rain keeps coming and going . Not in the high wind area and on back side of hill , nearly still at times , Friend showed up late , got her in a blind , crossed the bridge of death , creek was way over boots. Maybe something will come out to feed before front moves thru

Hunting thick stuff today

I am surrounded by small camps and a 30 acre sanctuary hold deer , dropped over 700 trees last winter just to make cover in the mature hardwood, whole tree left to rot. Sanctuary is no go zone all the year , and you can't see 30 yards into it. If your shooting into it or hanging on edge you don't have a sanctuary . 10 buck and 3 doe off this year tells me we can hold buck. Methods of hunting will keep more deer out as well still hunting walking around scouting .. all are detrimental. Helped a local hunter this year who had same issues his sanctuary was way to open and accessible. His stands were not entered easily and quietly , scouting during season was stopped , he has had his best year since New work done on land and property management done all summer.. .

I always wore orange as well except late.muzzleloader and then that was snow camo unless we were doing drives then orange hat again.. doesn't really bother me ,neighbor how 86 hunts in blue jeans and a old wool brown grey coat.. deer don't care people do thats it..

Shot one with horns few years ago when I found it it had lost both only had buck tag , dec told me to tag it as buck they were very fresh, went back out next day 5 hours searching a 100yard blood trail I found both antlers. Called officer and he laughed said good job.

Pulled 4 camera cards on way in have 7 differnet survivor bucks and a lot of doe and fawns , only one buck I'd consider a shooter though. Take a walk later and pull the next 8 cams before weekend see what's available

Have 3 that hunt here all have 3 kids ,plus 1 wife whos kids are older out of the house. she just started this year and took he 1ST deer yesterday afternoon.

Deer out in front of house now I can count 11 (blobs in the corn n soybean) will be gone by daylight I'm sure off to hide for the day.. will have 2 hunters in camp this after noon, friend and his wife are here but guessing they will be sleeping in after last night's celebration drinks and are headed home this am, other two will show around noon I guess.

That a buck cannot reach maturity is simply a habitat issue, they maKe it here and there are over 20 hunters per square mile. HabitT improvement and çreation of a sanctuary on private land does that very quick. Most of ny habitat is pretty poor the dec can manage numbers on a large scale but small scale must be done by private land owners. Wmu are large and great hunting cN be found in them but deer are in pockets is what you hear hunters complain about. My area gave out nearly no doe tags thus year, but last year knowing the population was down I didn't let everyone fill doe tags tonwhile the dec reacted this year by knowing the local population I have a abundance of doe this year and no tags. Next year I'll be swamped if I did nothing , fortunately muzzleloader will allow me to take 3 to 5 doe I need to keep population stable here regardless of what the state issues for tag in the wmu.. It's not up to the dec to fine tune harvest numbers on a small scale its up to individuals.

Friends wife got her 1st deer ever this afternoon 13th deer off my place this year

My place had 8 hunting opening morning , 5 successful by 8 am no one hunted that afternoon and all were on way home by Sunday 9am. Had 1 hunter for sat Sunday am Thanksgiving weekend , and 2 hunters for sat this past weekend. No one for Sunday afternoon.. strange year, no doe tags, and other commitments seem to have removed the drive to hunt.
