  1. No i don't feel the gov/dec should be stocking non-native species, wether that be fish, bird,or mammal. The amount of money spent for put and take hunting/fishing is incrediable i would rather see it go into habitat improvement. Stocking fish to replace a population wiped out by polution/overfishing is different we wiped them out!! they were there(paddlefish for example). The nwtf trap and transfer of wild turkey to suitable habitat is another good example or the proper way to increase hunter oppertunity. ..............Phesants hey they are non-native and if someone really cared about them they would improve habitat and close the season to see if natural reproduction can occur and sustain a huntable population, put and take seems like a poor use of my money. If you want to hunt them that bad pay the fee and hunt a phesant preserve.....
  2. I like the fact the video is from orphaned, abandoned and abused... like a lot of posters on this site
  3. nice pics! best part about them... No SNOW!!
  4. Grows, i did not support nixion or bill clinton, i am probably the most conservitive person you will ever meet. But your though of black and white in print is wrong. it says: attract to feed... If you do not understand this you are beyond anything that can be written here. Our judical system would not look upon what you are saying as circumstancial evidence, unless you can supena the said photos to prove the deer was feeding in front of the camera, and not on another camera, there is nothing wrong with what was written. Unlike other post that show corn/minerals (these are known to be eaten by deer) underfoot of a deer and sometimes in front of a treestand that are obviously illegal. Jumping to the conclusion and saying what was written was illegal and they're kissing dec is plain crazy. I truly hope if your ever in trouble with the law you do not get a jury who would follow your beliefs/example you've shown here for you would probably be innocent yet still locked away. (and thats a polite shot )
  5. I am not a scorer but i do not see a measurment of this gap anywhere written down, or it as part of a scoring system. In taxonomy there are significant differences within a species. look at our own, midgits, to giants, to the elephant man. our defining charateristics are teeth, and cranial capacity.,who knows mabe a pedicil was knocked off and reattached after being hit by a car when young, or a fight, one can't say for certain without examination of the skull plate?? to many variables to consider.. jmo.. like i said the story will come out when he's passed from this world.. and as i say in other posts... innocent until proven guilty. reluctance to have measured, gap, these are all based on assumptions...the only one that knows the absolute truth and can set the record strait isn''t talking.......
  6. Doc, the key word you used in your statement is trails, if trails exist hunter will be on them, get a half mile off a trail and a road and its a different story. the steep part of your area has no trails due to it being very thick. hence the deer will be there... now for example allegeny state park has trails but a lot more land that doesn't, go along a trial and you will find hunters get off the trail a half mile or so and no hunters.. Most hunters i have met will not leave a trail system for fear of getting lost even with a gps... heck my neighbor only hunts the edge of his woods because he got lost for an hr in his woods, and there is a street at the bottom of the hill and one on top, and the ridge runs n-s... lol.... I guess it happens, the main thing is if an area doesn't get pressure the deer wll find it! if its close to a building or 2 miles deep in the woods. They seem to be good at that!!
  7. Contacta local taxidermist and see if he'd be willing to instruct you.. you might have to do some work for him around the shop in trade,or find a local trapper to learn skinning . spliting sm game pads, clipping toes, caping without runing eyelids, ears or nose. then you'll have someting to offer a taxidermist to take you on as an apperntice.
  8. In New York, it is illegal to feed deer and moose by putting out any material that attracts them to feed. The important thing here is it must attract them to feed,, the scraps the were put out were not fed upon by the deer as far as the picture(no picture) shows and was written. Grows, this article has nothing legal wong with it. The picture of the fawn eating the carrot is illegal under the law. placing fish, meat, hummas,or whatever. if not fed upon by deer, moose or bear (under the new law) is legal, the exceptions are for feeding deer. The things you find humerous were examples of it being legal. This law is simple and clear if the deer come to it and eat it it is illegal, if you want to feed deer you must do so by one of the exceptions! no where in this article was it stated what the scraps were,or if the doe ate them.! there is no evidence of wrong doing.....a What you are doing is infering guilt from cercumstanscial evidence which would not be admissable in a court of law! Now again if the picture of the doe was published showing it with scraps in its mouth or standing amongst it you would have a case! "A few days before I visited, Dennis placed the cameras on two trees focusing at a point where four hiking trails converge." This says CAMERAS it doesn't say which camera had the doe on it it may have been one looking up a trail away fromthe scraps(your forcing me to make conjecture(Inference or judgment based on inconclusive or incomplete evidence; guesswork). about this to prove a point) this is not illegall multiple cameras were used you are making assumptions about this deer being baited or lured in with scraps. Again i say innocent until proven guilty...
  9. I know the law and understand it. The food has to attract deer or moose and be accessable to them again nothing in the article shows or states that the food scraps attracted the doe so not illegal! As for the other posts with food in the pics with deer illegal...
  10. who knows it could be marketed as a carrot feeder for deer and another one is pushed out the nose socket like a magazine clip from a gun, once one is removed...those baiters are tricky lol !!
  11. Yes according to the law food placed accessable to deer or moose is baiting(and bear under new law) cute photo though
  12. as further stated in the article the only animal photographed rumaging in the scraps was a racoon, the opossom, crows blue jays and doe werenot stated to be by or in the scraps. Its states 2 cameras were placed on an intersection of 4 trails, it doesn't say which one had the food in front of it or which camera had the doe picture on it.. Again please refrain from jumping to conclusions the photos are not published to again i see nor or read no violation of the law.. now if the doe pic was shown with the foos scraps in its mouth or it sniffing themor i'll even go as far as standing amongs them yes it would be illegal.
  13. unless you think the camera attracted the deer and then it tried to eat it then the camera would be bait and illegal..
  14. And the article said food scraps...no description given, you jump to a conclusion of feeding deer, i gave an example of steak scraps, again no basis for illegal activity but you assumed that immediatly. As for the deer looking into the lens he also stated it put them on a confluence of trails... nothing said on deer eating scraps/sniffing/licking/tasting/attracting them again no illegal activity. Assuming and jumping to conclusions is not the best thing to do, the law is the law andif corn/or any other food scrap that deer might eat was used i would agree with you 100% but it was not defined so.. innocent untill proven guilty unless you don't like the justice system america uses.
  15. I could put a fresh caught bulegill on a picnic table to get pics of a racoon,or crow its not illegal as long as it didn't attract a deer or moose(or bear if in area) thats is what the law states...
  16. Ok so put out a dead animal or a side of beef, again not attracting deer or moose not against the law, everything mentioned on the picnic table would attract deer and would be acessable, the apple would as well... still nothing wrong with writer puting out food scraps for racoon(and if the date was in feb when season open wouln't be an issue at all) as long as deer, moose(and bear if in area) would not eat it. Not defending anything just using reading comprehension of the stated law...
  17. I don't think steak scraps are going to attract deer or moose, you only need worry about bear if they are in your area(against the new law).As for the previous posts showing corn, mineral licks on the ground and pics of deer eating them, yes that is against the law! You need to get the context and subject, and date of the illegal baiting photos, that is what people were bashing on, the blatant feeding of deer for photos(some with treestands in the background definalaty illegal)! Context its all about context!!
  18. At least in my area the private land that borders state land and the state land that borders the state land are the hardest hunted. If I was a deer id head deep into the woods and come out to eat at night....
  19. Sky, i agree very addictive, and ir or black flash suck for quality of image. i'll keep the white flash anytime!! Was kind of dissapointed they never mention setting up the camera's for the best pics, i had to learn the hardway hundreds of pics later, how close, how high, the right angle for a trial, it doesn't matter how fast, or how far a flash can go,or lack of flash ir/black flash the setup is a lot more important at least in my opinion....
  20. Unfortunalty a lot of people do... I really don't know if there is an answer for this and it makes me sad and angry to think that people will do illegal things/unethical things to get that "book" buck. At least i started hunting before the big buck craze and learned to enjoy hunting the way i wish everyone could. Take that which you can legaly so it will have a quick death, and enjoy the bounty from your kill.
  21. eagle, my steel force and rage shoot exactly the same i use the steelforce for bear and elk as i am looking for more penatration 1 1/4in, but deer are thin skinned and narrow chest cavity nothing beats putting a 2" + hole in one!
