  1. well if you can pause and go frame by frame there are 11 buck that are easy to be seen although there are 3 other deer that their heads are not visiable. not a bad bachlor group made up of different age bucks...
  2. Dave, i think many hunters are ethical, but i do wonder how many atv users really follow the law to the letter, i have seen deer run from spotlights, atv's,snowmobiles they must be conditioned this way (usually being shot at) deer will get use to atv, tractors, ect. if they are ridden everyday in a non threatning mannor and will let you ride by without moving(your not a threat). My neighbors uses an atv and i don't have a problem with them being used to get someone to the woods,or a tractor for that matter. or for retreving game. I just am amazed at the numbers of hunters that show up a weekend or even a day before and go tearing thru the woods to check stands,or sight in guns, and then complain that there are no deer! Ask the farmer or residents in the area you hunt in there are deer! Its just they have all been put on high alert by the mass incursion of sights and sounds brought by the precurser to opening day, and have reatreated to a quiet section of cover free of these incursions.
  3. santamour123, i understand your point exactly, you enter once and win and now you have another big deer so you must be cheating or doing something illegal, maybe you just put in more hrs then the other guys....either way once you take a big buck they think you should get one every year and if you don't they still pick on you...
  4. I just wonder how many guys usuing atv's are driving around with their guns unloaded like they are supose to? Wonder what would happen if we had enough dec officers to ticket loaded guns on motor veh, or hunting from? Maybe we could close nys cash crisis just in fines, and lower my property tax!!! lol..
  5. is it a power issue or a light gathering one? i have a pair of 10x compact that are ok in direct light, but my pair of 7x have much better light gathering ability(larger lenses) and allow me to see finer details in a lower light in a hunting situation. just some thing to think about its not all magnification...
  6. Well doc you have to start somewhere and this bill is the start... it helps disabled hunters enter the bowhunting season and participate without specially modified equipment. If you want them to use a gun in BOW season your not making any sense, There is GUN season for guns, and the people that this bill is trying to create an archery opportunity for cannot physically draw a bow, don't have a problem holding a gun. You Should be suporting this bill and writhing letters to further expand it if thats what you feel is nessary.
  7. I don't understand doc's and others against a crossbow unless they are making their own bow and arrows and points. They have been around for century's the compound bow has not, remember when combounds were illegal? ??? what about the release most bow hunters use(looks and acts like a trigger... they have drawlocs for bows that hold the string back and they don't have problems with those, just turn one on its side and its a crossbow!! What about let off that lets you hold the bow back for a longer time and hold a higher draw weight?? sounds like they need to be policing their own rather than tryin to stop an effective piece of archery equipment that for all intents and purposes is exactly the same as the bow they are shooting!
  8. I counted one spring in a 50 mile run just what i could see on or next to the track(not over the bank or out in fields where the plow may have thrown more) 43 deer, 13 racoon, 11 opossom, 9 turkey, and 23 unidentifyable things. really sad, the snow gets deep and the easiest corrodor is the track right of way.
  9. no cow catchers on them anymore... just plows.. i think the dec would be sick just to count the amout of deer hit by trains every year would throw their haevest numbers off for sure!
  10. Its april look close for the nubs...its amazing...
  11. Thats true, go to ohio lots of cheap second hand crossbows for sale there...same will happen in ny i am sure. lol..
  12. How rare is it to get a fight or shoving match on camera.... got more than i thought i would
  13. I think the contests bring out the worst in people every year it seems like somebody get caught poaching a big buck to enter in a contest or enter someone elses buck on their tag. Even the pope n young, boone and crocket, ny big buck club seem to bring out the worst in people, i've taken game that would qualify for these "books" never entered them. fact is i am happy with whatever i harvest. no contests for me!
  14. yeah i have enough trouble trying to hit em let alone try to video them... lol it was different for sure..
  15. well my neighbor bought a bow, had watched us for years harvesting game before he could with a gun, bought an expensive set up and headed out to get his easy deer... lasted 1 season shot at deer way to far away arrow landed way short. Gave up pretty fast..hasn't bow hunted since. maybe a lot of people will initially jump on board the scam to try it but you and i know they are in for a rude awakening. The people that benifit from this bill are the truly disabled sportsman that will continue to follow their passion of the sport.
  16. one of my fav's with a cuddieback
  17. Unless this bill passes the only way you are able to hunt using a drawloc with a breathtube is if you are a quad in a wheelchair, i really don't care what they use but if you have 1 arm its kind of tough to hold a bow with a 5lbs drawloc added to it upright and aim and press a release. much easier to place a xbow on a rail hold to the shoulder and pull a trigger, it removes special and expensive equipment needed to hold a bow upright so you can aim or the need for another person to be there to aim for you, so even if two years pass and xbows are legal you still need to be a quad in a wheel chair and use a breath tube, even if it is a xbow. Its a good bill that will allow lots of disabled hunters to join the ranks of bowhunters.
  18. Lets see they also built roads,aquaducts,sanitation,.... not and agenda just saying they've been around longer than compound bows, and no one seems to have a problem with those ... only agenda i'd like to see is the redefining of disabled for hunters in new york...
  19. Yes the disabled do and can use guns during gun season, but like wnybuckhunter said it allows them to use a bow during the archery season.. the best ting that this does is redefine what it is to be disabled permantly..you don't have to be a quad. in a wheelchair. it is good legislation and opens up archery season to them with a resonable cost of equipment. I am not afraid of sharing the woods with another hunter. The notion that any season is sacred is crazy..there are people out there that have to remember when compounds were illegal, then they were allowed but releases were illegal.. to poke at somone's choice of weapon when it is legal is childish. If you want pure archery season i guess we have to look at a tradional season ...but wern't crossbows used by the romans..and even back further by the chinese? hmmmm maybe prehistoric stick and string or maybe go to spear or sling....so what it traditional or is it just what we think we are use to?
  20. See hundreds of deer in the vinyards along lake erie (around ripley)every year this time. snow drives them out of the hills into the lake plain.. too bad when they get on the railroad tracks...wiped out 15 at one time..shurly had to hurt the deer going back to someone's hunting land next fall..
  21. The weekend before gun starts is useless to hunt every yahoo is shooting their gun driving around with their atv's hammering up stands... i can't understand why they can't do that in july august or september.. the best is then they complain there are no deer opening weekend!! I i was a deer i sure as heck would know season was starting and find a good hiding place!!! quiet all year then boom! like woodstock in the 60's...
  22. the best way to feed the deer is create browse/leave a crop field standing/cut down unwanted trees and let them eat the tops over the winter and cut up the trunks for firewood in the spring. of course this has to be done every year. if you just put out a pile of grain and you stop feeding in march the extra deer you helped thru the winter are putting a lot of stress on the natural browse that is maybe just starting to green up the herd health will suffer more than if you didn't feed at all.
