  2. last bow tek i shot was smooth but loud!! hope they improved this model!!!
  3. lol...so what's the difference between that and a x-bow ???
  4. wztirem, well if you know a nice woman who will put up with a hunting fanatic send em my way otherwise its a buffaol rug for one! lol
  5. I guess i would pay what ever the state wants, lifetime licence in the future..just wish it would strictly go toward game issues, would like to see the state get some land in erie county.... all for a seperate game commission!!!! and a ammendment protecting our right to hunt in nys!!!
  6. May 1st is because most of the hens are bred and the gobbling peak has passed, as for the half day pretty much been disproven as to disturbing hens on nests. I am for an all day spring hunt! but leave the opener alone.....
  7. I'm beginning to think that hollywood got it right in the movie DAY AFTER TOMMOROW...man its cold!! Don't mind the snow i can move that but -5 this am and calling for -7 tonight again...guess i'll curl up under my buffalo rug!!
  8. I'm with bubba use a traditions 12 ga blk powder with nos.4 with buffer, or my knight 12ga blk powder same load but with a 3 1/2 shotcup.
  9. I guess i should say this plan is for the southern zone... northern can come up with a more specfic plan for their population there...
  10. Here's a plan issue everyone a anterless tag with their licence and give out buck tags by lottery like doe tags are now. The bucks will grow older and hte state will get its population control...
  11. As for the face looking a little wierd...the taxidermist probably just used the form and didn't modify it to fit the exact hide,(most fits all) the top taxidermists will take many measurments and ask for pics of your game, every deer is different done have longer noses or shorter noses, the rack may sit higher or lower on hte skull, that causes big difference in prices as well,if they take the time to modify the form. As for the turn around time lots of factors come into play..full time/ part time taxidemist? commercially tanned or in house? how many heads taken in?
  12. Well i think ted is A GREAT guitarist and A Great musician.. He is a very active voice pro gun. At least he is out there saying it! As for the face?? not ideal.. but if you could get 20 more celebrities out there voicing their opinion as loud as ted you'ld really have something!
  13. why not do what other states do had have mandatory check stations that seal your deer so it can be processed no seal no deer cutting by a service(of course you could do the deer yourself) but that would take staff to man the stations...of course no $ for hiring in ny..so the state will spend thousands on a study to figure out how to estimate our deer herd population. Face it they don't want factual information just want to sell licences to fund the general fund. If only our monies from licences and robertson/pitman act went to fund our own game comission maybe then the state would manage our game properly.....
  14. The latest i've seen deer with headgear is the 1st week in april, the earliest drop i've found is dec 31st. Health,Stress and injury seem to be the factors in them dropping them. I've heard that if does keep coming into heat that the bucks will keep their antlers longer as their testosterone level is kept elevated..
  15. The reason the season is as long as it is is to take the number of deer the dec recommends(however they determine it) but the majority of the buck take is in the first two days. It seems everyone takes off opening day. so if you want to shorten the season you need to split it into at least 2 parts with a "cool down period" in between, thus giving you 2 opening weekends for gun! and early and a late! (of course if they do this it will probably be another tag/or licence to buy if you want to hunt both, more moneys for the state you know... just sayin') P.S. (if this happens i had nothing to do with it....)
  16. no they were grouse, got a nice little honey hole that always has a good number of birds, the owner planted winterberry, highbush cranberry, and apple on the edge of a spruce stand 30 years ago they are now 25'tall and 15' in diameter grouse just go back and forth between them, nice for a guy that hunts without a dog!
  17. nice photos! how close were you taking the pictures? I've only seen one shoving match in daylight and that was end of august 400 yrds away between 2 really nice buck, almost all i've seen on camera are at night....
  18. I use a 50cal blackpowder cva pistol and a 50 cal knight mk95 blk powder pistol, i have taken deer and a wild pig with both, they both have 8in and 10in barrel respectively and take 90grains of pyrodex p, i am comfortable out to 50 yards off hand and 75 with a rest with the knight with weaver open sights, 50 yards with the cva (buckhorn rear and blade front). Both are deadly! and a great quick second shot in late muzzleloader as well!
  19. Well since the states management units are vast in size, they cant and don't know what the local herd populations are. micro manage you own area, just because the state gives out doe tags doesn't mean you need to fill every tag they issue you. if your not seeing deer pass the doe it only takes a year or two and the population will triple, enjoy the hunt and take the 65 or so dollars that they charge to cut up a deer and buy some meat from the local store. If the population is that large that you feel you have to supplemental feed so they will survive maybe it time you shoot some doe....
  20. not hunting but people that let their dogs run...anytime of year
  21. Ok 2 old ones deer taken with an old trail timer(plunger pushed button on a 35 mill camera) bear on a stealth cam 35 mill.
