Yesterdays project... Last fall plot worked up, got to hot need to finish disking

I still shoot grouse while hunting deer, have to head shoot with rifle though. Not to concerned about scaring deer seem to do well on them regardless
-
Well my experience here is bucks are still in bachelor groups the 1st week or so and for the guy that got big bucks all summer it's his chance to capitalize on his photo scouting. By 10/15 bucks are spread out in different ranges. Have friend in ohio who just started hunting and was gonna take off till end of oct as he was told bucks dont move well till it cold ,told him to go out ( was oct 2nd ) he was hunting in ohio and my opening was still oct 15. We got off train I went to hotel and he decided to go out after I rode him for not for 180 miles from buffalo to Cleveland, my phone rang an hour later as he shot a big 10pt that came in with 4 other bucks.. I'll take the early date . Though I do miss the monday gun opener
-
I would love to see the monday opening day reinstated as would many of the small businesses and restaurants in town. Made a good weekend of visiting and camp prep. Honestly people took off all opening week when it was a monday.. now it's truly a weekend warrior sport..

Done turnips for years as I like to eat them. As well purple top and appin. Deer demolish them early here though after they got use to them

Just make a gravity feeder. 8 in pvc a number 10 galvanized bucket. , cut a 2 in hole at bottom of pipe and attach board to bottom . With lip to catch seed. Cost is about 30 bucks 40 if you paint it up camo. 4 ft tall will hold 50bs of grain.

The bow hunters were given 2 extra weeks to allow xbow to be added as well as youth gun season Columbus day weekend. They got want they wanted and gave up a lot. , Fact is dec should have say in what implements and when they will be used, unfortunately nys has all its seasons tied up politically..

Future forestry. Yes take care of everything, this is part of a 480a program .

300 or so acres .

Have 2 weeks vacation, time to finish small pond I built last year, maybe another small pond and grade out some logging roads, get a few fall plots worked up.and planted. Foresters marked trees today so I dont have to do one section of roads as they will regrade when done logging, may rebuild a few blinds with the extra time saved.

Good luck and have fun

I handed an oneida strike eagle to a friend who literally took. 3 shots and then went out and killed a deer after his bow broke that morning, setups are key to archery, several in camp keep track of deer they could of killed ( shot opportunities) vs deer seen. We have multiple stands that multiple deer could be shot out of after just killing one. That positioning is the hardest thing in hunting imo. Getting the spot to kill. A deer from not just see it. Same holds true in turkey hunting the set up is the key calling is secondary

Dont need a 12 ring to kill a deer those are 3d shooters.. 10 in. Out at 30 yards is a dead deer, I will be 1st to admit I am.not a good shot but I dont miss under 20.yards and less. Gave up shooting groups years ago practiced all the time , robinhood arrows gets expensive through the sound the aluminum makes and dust cloud were memorable, carbon well you may as well burn your paycheck 1x a month. The push for practice all the time and it's hard scares many away from compound use. Like it has bill. Crossbow seems much easier until. A gun hunter picks up one and tries a long shot and bolt deflects or the arc hits trees well before target. Archery in all its forms is a get close to game hunt . 3 d , target, tricks are run by those that want to shoot all the time. If you can get close to game ,you can kill it that is an art in itself.

The typical american indian bow was 30 lbs or so pull, the ability to get close was what made them effective. Today though it distance.. how many times guys buy long range rifles when the typical shot is under 70 yards where they hunt. Same with x bow. People buy them. Think I'm going to shoot 100 yards and then after a few seasons of missing give up or learn to take closer shots. ( some great deals out there on x bows that didnt give them the advantage they thought it would.)
-
I take my 1st deer with my bow and maybe a second if x bow hasnt opened. Never had much luck in the rut, Heck I'd hunt with a spear or sling shot if they had a season. As for shoulder Injuries and age I see alot of older and rotator cuff injured hunters pick up x bow when they cant draw a bow anymore , though they prolly could with these new high layoff bows but are not going to spend the money on one when they can get a x bow for 300 or so

Happy Birthday!

Never saw a qb who got huge deal make superbowl ever again....
-
Holding 8 lbs and holding a 8 lb plus xbow that is front heavy are not the same but the x bow is harder to hold steady without a rest beyond a doubt. They both have advantages and drawbacks but neither are difficult to learn to shoot.. now a 120 lb long bow..... well. That's a life time of work.
-
If you use a kisser look thru peep and use release it's exactly the same , unless your eyes are bad and you cant use open sights but hey make scopes for compounds as well. and what are you. Holding. 8 lbs or less on. Some of these new bows. . Hold a xbow and drop an elbow or hold it up for long time and you will be waving around. Off a rest different but out of a stand your off hand. , there is. A process with a rifle as well for that matter. And as always the equipment will outshoot the hunter. Honestly using a flintlock with open sights and traditional archery are only things that really take a amount of practice .

"Black National Anthem"
G-Man replied to Water Rat's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Why would you further create divide by even thinking of doing this ,national anthem is for everyone , not a specific color.. I swear the media is the worse thing going to eliminate division. They simply spread it. That song was written to celebrate Lincoln s Birthday, its insulting to use it as a black national anthem -
And I bet after you sighted your pins on the compound you could of done the same after a few hours shooting.
-
I can do both but my compound shoots flatter further, and at 30 yards with a modern compound 80% plus let off 30 yards is a easy shot ( most would have 1 pin to 30. Yards to begone with now.) I couldnt hold a xbow up steady enough to shoot farther than 40 without a rest. I can easily do 70 with a compound as is 1/3 the weight and balanced not front heavy . Use a release with finely tuned trigger as well. Basiaclaly a hand drawn rifle these days. There is a reason the long bow out preformed the crossbow for centuries. ( today's x bows are vastly different than those 10 years ago) It's the false stigma that bow is harder today's are so easy to set up and shoot , 20 years ago yes, maybe 50% layoff if you were lucky and 65 % was top of the line back then , the equipment will out shoot the shooter same as most rifles. Honestly I know more people that just pick their bow out of the case shoot a dozen arrows and are ready to go hunting, and then the guy that practices every day for months and then season comes and he will go 30 to 60 days and then take his shot at a deer with no practice since the day before opening day...
