  1. Lots of movies have inaccurate scenes that I see are glaringly wrong . I knew in my young age that Walton mountain didn't look right . Spanish moss in the trees ... ponderosa pine ? Catfish .in the mountain Brooks. How about rio grand turkeys in the east ? I think I recall them having black tail deer in more than one episode. Look past it we all did . One of my favorite books for fishing was the same way in the movie . A river runs through it . Story line was great movie was good . Couldn't stand that the rainbow trout had gnarly rounded off fins and tails associated with hatchery raised fish . They were half dead and pale. The one trout they showed looked like it was a salmon .
  2. I'm using rage with orange collar. I dont have much experience. Took one and shot it into a block a few times . Opened everytime out of my crossbow.. one shot one kill on a doe at a little over 30 yds . Full deployment. Might be different out of a compound bow . Everyone knows that crossbows hit with the energy of a 30/06 ... flatter than a 6.5 creedmore. Capable of shooting around corners. And when hit in the right spot will gut ,skin ,and quarter a mature buck out to 1000 yds.
  3. As usual didn't get things done as planned .. I'm hoping for a decent weather ... a couple deer in the freezer maybe a decent buck and a safe year for all.
  4. Haven't gotten to the bench in a week or so . Whipped up one this morning in a hurry. Steelehead love purple and pink so .....
  5. Hatarie ,Jeremiah Johnson, The ghost and the Darkness.
  6. Yup cans aren't what the use to be bullet rips through them like paper. I use to love make a tin can jump back up a hill .
  7. Rear mounting brackets are different than mine . Wont work . Shame it's a good price
  8. That chit hurt...It burned worse than any cut I ever got ... use to swear they mislabeled battery acid
  9. Never had a deer do that ...somebody better tell him he is supposed to run away ...
  10. I have found that comparaduns that have been tied well will have a thinner wing finer hair. But almost always require a stiffer tippet .
  11. My two favorites are pheasant tail and light hendrickson wets and nymphs. Sorry I mean light Cahill not hendricksons
  12. I just got back into fly fishing for steelehead. Before I just nymph fished for them under an indicator. Swinging streamers is new for me for the most part. Last spring I picked up a switch rod for the first time . It took one steelehead blowing up on the fly and I'm hooked . Hit like a freight train. Wow just wow !!!!
  13. I am planning on learning married wings this winter after deer season closes.
  14. Couple of jigs I tie for pinning
  15. I have been tying for 30 years. You never get good on a pattern until you tie 4 or 5 dozen of the same patterns . I learned from a guy that tied commercially down in the catskills. He said you truly know a pattern when you tie 10 or 12 dozen of the same . Salmon flies are bigger so your flaws are bigger . I tie ugly flies have an ugly cast but I catch fish.
  16. Anybody else tie their own ... looking for proven steelhead patterns
  17. Got down to the tying bench. Never tied alot of salmon flies . I'm learning .
  18. That there be a picture I cant show the wife
  19. All is right in the world the real pygmy!
  20. Kind of a devil's advocate here . The OP said in original post that he gave permission to come on the property to track recover deer. He gave permission to come on the property.... I am betting he will be searching for lost deer all the time . And unless the judge hates trespassers as much as we do he is going to side on caution with a warning ... if the police even write the ticket. Not trying to start something... I have discussed this with a trooper family member. Just a thought .
