  1. I have been using craftsman tools daily as an industrial mechanic for 22 years now . Yup they aren't snap on or mack . But then again my tools are payed for . I dont have half my pay check going to the truck.
  2. I remember reading you divide the smaller number into the larger and that gives you the exit pupil of the binocular. The number 4 or greater gives you the most light you can see with the human eye . I have always stayed with 8 ×.40 and have been more than satisfied . I'm using a compact set of leupold. I dont remember what model but they were on sale for 150.00. Little more than your budget but they are clear and I can focus on stuff in brush. Separate target so to speak.
  3. It's true . Funny thing is I tied a batch of estaz eggs probably 15 years ago ice blue and roe. Never caught a fish on it . Last spring I actually caught 2 fish in one trip on that fly . It's all about what the fish want . Could have been the water color ... angle of the sun... mood of the fish who knows . Thats 2 fish I might not have caught had I tossed those useless flies . I am a firm believer in a full fly box and a full magazine .
  4. I like tying flies . Swinging streamers and spey type flies is new . Kind of made tying new and interesting again . When I get time I will be trying intruder and articulated leaches soon. Thanks for the compliments . As the tyer I see mistakes when I look . They will get better.

Rats leaving a sinking ship ... hope it's the first of many .
  6. I am a Minnesota fan since the Fran Tarkington era. So we will call it a Minnesota Vikings tribute fly.
  7. Sheesh ... might as well ask A/S/L. Kind of personal.... just busting . I hunt alot of stateland over the years. Theres a few things the good ones have in common . Long walks from the road to find deer . Food sources crops bordering it . Cover and escapes. When I'm hunting big tracks of stateland I know I'm not pulling the trigger on a doe or small bucks . 8,9 are productive zones but they aren't easy
  8. If being a blued steele wood loving .. 308 coveting lefty is wrong ... I dont want to be right .
  9. My favorite caliber in a pretty wood ... blued steel... shame bolt is on wrong side.
  10. Haven't been lucky enough to get into snows . Dont have deeks for it and don't see many down here in the southern fingerlakes. Looks like fun .
  11. Except when it crashes in to your brother in law .... that's freaking hilarious..
  12. We had 11 white does at one time here use to see them every day . People kept trying to get access to hunt near here . Some were shot others moved a few miles away . It has been said tires were slashed by a little old lady.... and nails were dumped around cars . Neighbors were pretty protective of them . Had ample opportunity to shoot one . Just didn't make sence to me . People enjoyed watching them and taking pictures.
  13. I have had some of my best times with friends and family goose hunting. It's as social form of hunting there is. Field lay out is a little bit of work at times . We put out 10 or 12 dozen decoys at times . I have had good shoots with just 1 dozen decoys. A comfortable lay out blind makes it nice. When the birds work like they are on a string it can be too easy . Theres some time invested in scouting and watching birds work into a field. I have been up early and watching ponds and lakes following flocks to fields . Nocking on doors for permission. I remember one shoot in September where we shot 30 birds in just under an hour and had birds trying to land as we were picking up decoys . Very doable . I like to make jerky and sausage out of goose breasts. I'm not fond of eating goose rare. Theres tons of recipes out there . Go for it .
  14. I tried eating goose alot of different ways but my favorite it to make it into jerky or sausage .
  15. If you have doe you will have bucks . 8 w has been going down hill for years . Funny thing is I see pockets with a ton of deer over here. I dont know how they dream up the numbers sometimes.
  16. Savage axis 2 in 308 just to be different. Love 308 will do anything you need east of the Mississippi . Lots of ammo choices. From mild to wild . Reduced recoil fusions if it's to much for him .
  17. 80 degrees ... sun ... bugs ... to many leaves .... squirrels galore. Lonely button bick camping out under my stand
  18. Welcome ...to the club ... theres alot to be learned from these guys . Just watch that pygmy character around your grandmother's..
