  1. I like it..justification for the x frame 500 s&w
  2. 3 pens used back in bow season ... not one would work on tag yet all worked on a dollar bill go figure. I now have fine point sharpies. 2 in day pack one in jacket and spare in truck.
  3. I get it I didn't say one way or the other just gave up an actual scenario. Honestly hunter A made a piss pore decision to shoot a hardquartering away running buck. Shot was more greed mixed with poor judgement Hunter B made a better shot killing the buck at the border fence. If the buck had crossed the.border there would have been no way to retrieve it property owners are bunny huggers. That said I would have given it to hunter A . The rules of the land however says hunter B put it down for the count.
  4. Years ago I hit a nice 13 pt. One lung liver. Ran on to the neighbors property . Ran passed their son who missed and fell down in front of mom who finished it off . Tracked a decent bloodtrail in the snow and get to kid who says deer wasn't hit till his mom killed it. Laughed and pointed to blood trail. I left it to them . Next weekend posted signs went up between our properties. Mom and dad came out as I was leaving. Told me there 20 year old son claimed he hit it . If they had known they would have given me the deer. There was no reason for me to post the property. Told them that posted signs make good neighbors . If they hit a deer call my cell and I would track for them. Told them to remind their son of the borders. Following year during bow season had 2 cameras come up missing . One camera that was in a bear box locked and anchored to a tree had pictures of the son. Delivered copies of it to parents and told them I expected both cameras returned to the.stump on my property in 24 hours or police would be coming . Apologies from both . Cameras returned. Haven't seen the son in years . Parents and I have a cordial relationship at best.
  5. I have a 5 lbs sausage maker .Works for me I have done 60 lbs of sausage this year.have another 25 to do tonight. If you do snack sticks it's the cats ass for the stickey mix. I would look for one with metal gears the durlans are ok but they will wear out. I did an upgrade on mine just because I don't like plastic.
  6. This happened a few years back. My BIL and nephew were hunting with a close friend. Friend hit a huge buck . Gut shot with 45/70. The three of them tracked the creek bottom one on each bank one in the bottom . Buck jumped up ran up to nephew and he shoots it in the neck putting it down . Nephews first deer kill. Little bit of conversation . Agreement is to let the boy tag it. There were some hard feelings obviously. Friend is no longer. That would be a tough call .
  7. Been on both ends of that mess. The rules we were taught in hunter safety back many many moons ago was the last shot that put the animal down is the guy that gets it. That said I wouldn't claim a mortal wounded deer . Definatly not a deer from somebody in my hunting party. Gut shot I will gladly back track and find the shooter and help claim his mess.
  8. I'm in tomorrow. First day son has a chance to hunt . He wants to stay on stand until 2 PM. Lol I bet he doesn't make it until 9. He has heart. I am giving him my stand for the day and I'm going to go sit in the back of the property. Hope he kills something. He is carrying my 270 encore.
  9. I still have the 10 guage long tom shot my first turkey with it .
  10. I hunt postage stamp property of 30 acres. People below me have 20 acres and put 4 people on it sometimes 6. People above have 49 acres and had 5 . I have lost more than a few deer to the neighbor's. In my opinion drt verses a 50 yard sprint or more on to the neighbors property is not an option. That said I shoot alot with my hunting guns . Revolvers and rifle over 2000 rounds a year. I would say i personally am very proficient with all my guns. If a person isnt comfortable with the shot a person shouldn't do it . I understand chit happens. But I have also seen alot more deer with horrific leg wounds amputations from a shot at the vitals gone low . Or have found gut shot deer lost trying to hit the bigger vitals. I guess the best answer is to practice more often . Aim small miss small.
  11. Too many .. lol 444 marlin lever action 44 mag lever action 460 Smith in x frame performance center Ruger sbhh bisley in 41 mag 327 federal on a ruger gp platform ... give me a minute I will think of more
  12. My kids are all grown up . Wife doesn't hunt anymore and one son gets out once or twice for deer season . I have time to hunt and fish. I guess I served my penance. Does get hard to go sometimes when there's no one to share with. I long for the days when deer season was a family event. Miss my gramps and grand mother .. the red woolrich suits the smell of the wood stove. Think I might take grams 20 guage deerslayer for a walk this afternoon.
  13. Look like the extreme penetrators. Seen one travel 5 feet through a huge hog just about tooter to the rooter. Shot from an encore pistol in 500 s& w. What a mess that was.
  14. Dropped my buck off for European mount having it dipped in snow camo to commemorate the snowy day he was taken. Mounted on a black walnut plack. Butchering him today. Be back at it tomorrow. Good luck guys .
  15. Dropped my buck off for European mount having it dipped in snow camo to commemorate the snowy day he was taken. Mounted on a black walnut plack. Butchering him today. Be back at it tomorrow. Good luck guys .
  16. I like the neck shot . My gramps taught me that it was the best shot on a standing deer . No major loss of meat and drops them right there. Grams however loved the neck roast and usually gave him heck. I personally pick an imaginary line just in front of the shoulders where the neck starts. This also works on boar with devastating effect. Alot of vitals packed in a small area . Plus the pictures are prettier than a head shot.
  17. Home washing the sweat out of my hunting clothes . The walk in ,over a foot of snow, and the drag out I was soaked.. Back at it tomorrow. Good luck guys
  18. Nothing in the morning had lunch got back in 230. While hoisting up pack I look over to see a doe sneaking through the brush to my north . More deer coming behind. See a big bodied deer bringing up the rear. Drop the pack and pulled the 480. As the deer got its closest it was covered up in brush no shot. Watched him nipping off buds . Till no clue how big the rack was.Didn't look good for a shot no shooting lanes over there. Scanned ahead and picked a spot where the brush thinned and waited. As he moved forward at about 60 yds I braced against the tree . Supporting shooting hand with weak hand I put the dot on the bucks neck then cocked the srh .Looking at the buck all I had was an opening the size of a softball on his neck. My grandfathers words came back to me " if you can see it you can hit it". I slowly squeezed the trigger. At the report the buck dropped in his tracks . The big 391grn hard cast hollowpoint crushed him. An hour drag to the truck was killer. But rewarding.
  19. I'm betting I would be changing my shorts. Cool video.... I think it would be hard to video while holding my srh. Just saying i wouldn't be in bear country without a revolver with big bear medicine loaded to the max.
  20. That would be cool for deer and I could ride it down to the truck if I don't get a deer
  21. 8 w a foot or more been on snow removal since 530 am. Finally finished 5 driveways. Thank god for kubota and snowblower. Going to make for a tough walk to tree stand in morning. Haven't heard how much is on the hill . Have to wonder about deer movement in this snow. Snow or no snow I will be in the tree tomorrow dark and early.
