crappyice
Why do safety harnesses have an expiration date? Five years after purchase it is supposed to be replaced even if it has not been thankfully deployed during a fall. I'm sure none of us on this board have done this, but do you know anyone who has ignored the expiration and used it after the date? ny chance that person needed it through a fall? How'd it hold up? MuzzyLoader
TTT... I want to know the answer to this question too. Think OSHA may have something to do with this???
oneidacountyhunter
marketing, just to get more money IMO. I can't imagine the tether straps have a shelf life before they disolve or something hahaha
Lawdwaz
I think I bought mine in 1999. I'll take my chances.............BUT............ I probably use mine 20-25 days a year, not 365. Sooooo, I'm probably only up to 350 days or so.
Gthphtm
It is most likley a carry over from auto racing which has a 2 year date,To me it is just BS to make more money for them. How many are using them every day all year.

landtracdeerhunter
Goggle it. Polyester looses it's strength over time. Studies show about 8% in 100 washings. I would also think uv rays might be a factor.

landtracdeerhunter
I would also add maybe a liability issue?
crappyice
I am pleasantly surprised by your responses. I thought for sure I was gong to get a lot of "safety should be the number one priority and all packaging must be followed" - I agree but this one does not make any sense. Don't tell but I also remove that tag on couches and mattresses. Living on the edge!

landtracdeerhunter
Yeh, taking the tags off mattresses will get u time, lol. Now there's one that don't make sense. Would think it's more important to check for fraying stitches and damage to the webbing. The videos that come with the stands all go into that. They also tell u not to leave a tree stand out for more than 2 weeks, know who does that? fasteddie
Well , if someone doesn't use a harness , their expiration date might be sooner ............
WNYBuckHunter
Funny that the seatbelts in cars dont have expiration dates....just sayin.
crappyice
I take my seatbelts in ever night to keep them out of the sun. My harness on the other hand works 24/7 - 365...sounds like that warning label is more of a marketting ploy...good one too!
RangerClay
If you want to replace something, replace the nylon straps that fasten your stands to the trees. I cannot get over how much the sun eats those things up after they have been in a tree for several months.
