Lawdwaz
That looks great. I hope you have the right spot for it! I'd be good for ONE big bear in my house then I'd be in trouble. My wife wouldn't be to thrilled about it though. I don't know if she'd call the Life Insurance company first or the junk man to haul out my mounts when I kick. She isn't a fan of too much of this stuff! Is that bear home in those pics or still at the taxidermist? How much trouble was it to transport? Red
That mount came out really nice it looks really cool. I.had my skull measured and still have the paper work laying around some where I never had it entered. One day I might send it the paper work. She sure looks like a record book bear Edited April 20, 2014 by Red
G-Man
Yea I didn't enter skull , but ended up as 18 13/16the.. just never entered any of my deer so why enter the bear....
Terry
I would love to score a bear for someone. Out of curiosity, why wouldn't you have it entered?
G-Man
To me a score is a good measure to see how it compares to others. To make book its usually in the top 10% of its species . Its a good reference point for myself and how I continue to learn judge game. To enter it in the books is a pure ego trip for the person entering it.imo like having your 30 seconds of fame. I only look as a hunt as a contest between the game and myself sometimes I win and sometimes they do . I believe that contests in general and record books are part of the antler craze and "bring down" the sport as a.whole placing hunting into a trophy hunting category in many non hunters minds. As a whole the celebration of trophy's is degrading to the sport in many non hunters minds.
Terry
I score for the NYBBC and see it differently. The score is as you say, a way to compare animals. The record books is a way to record the best of the best. To me it's always about the animal and has nothing to do with any kind of fame. What makes a trophy a trophy is too subjective to offer any kind of fame or ego boost. I guess everyone has a different view and perception, but to me the record books are more about keeping a record of the top animals taken for future generations to enjoy. Anyways, congrats on a beautiful bear and a gorgeous mount!!
G-Man
If that's the case then all the animal would be entered for free when measured...instead they charge..though its only a few dollars.. its not about the animal at that point... Terry
We're a non-profit organization. However, publishing a book, promoting, running a website, etc all cost money. So, yes we do charge, but no one is profiting. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread. I was just curious. Again, that's a beautiful bear, congrats
G-Man
its fine, i get my game scored i just chose not to enter it, i know a few scores and there are quite a few more on this site. i have nothing against the organisations that keep/the books or those that score.. just more of what happens to peoples egos when they make the book.. trophys are supose to be rare, just seems thats all any show talks about or pushes anymore...not everyone will get a top 10% animal but thats what makes trophys special.....
