Age that Shed buck

Your certainly welcome to make a guess on that but I get a chuckle out of people guessing the age of a buck on the hoof even when they are wearing their horns!

Hell, most people and even some biologist can't even age them correct when they have the jaw in their hand.

It is VERY hard to do.

That's why I thought it would be an interesting thread. When people judge bucks don't they usually do it by body? Not rack, that's kind of my point. Plus he seems like he had a good body compared to the other shed bucks....

I've kiled a couple older bucks in the past few years; 3.5, 4.5 and 5.5 and they all look the same to me, even when they are in your hand!

3.5 yrs old....

3.5 yrs old.....

4.5 yrs old....

5.5 yrs old....

Hard to tell even here but trust me these were aged accurately by the NYS DEC (I hope!)

3.5 shoulders just not filled out enough for older i think it it was by me, but may be result of lack of food this year. every area is different.

short nose.. small pedicles... body may appear big but most of that is winter coat...younger buck... possibly 2.5, but my guess is 1.5.. if it was a NY buck.... Pa buck? 8.5..lol

Thats what I was looking at. Nose is short, small ears, no sway back, scrawny shoulders and a fuzzy face. 1.5 with the tiny pedicles.
