Finding ammo.

I know that this topic has been done to death but.. I was in the local Gander Mtn. this past week end and one of the gun guys told me that they get their ammo shipments in on Wed. mornings. I have been trying to find .22LR, .223 and .357 for a while.

I got there this morning, 5 minutes after the doors opened and it was a mob scene at the gun counter. Today was the first day that Gander makes you take a number on "ammo day". Apparently guys have been showing up, as soon as the doors open, and buy the entire pallet of ammo, which is B.S. I was #42 and people were still streaming in behind me. They kept the whole pallet behind the counter and two guys were just calling out numbers. It was a one box limit until everyone was served and then they would start over. I ended up getting some 22 and 223 but no 357. The whole pallet went in about 40 minutes. What a freaking zoo.

It makes you wonder how long this is going to continue. Maybe the anti-gun forces have found a new way to win. All they have to do is sit back and watch us all continue to deprive each other of ammo to shoot. I guess that's another way to total gun control. All they have to do is scare us enough with gun laws and even just "proposed" or "possible" gun laws and we self-destruct.

I'm not so sure that this is really going to stop .....ever. I'm convinced that a lot of these compulsive ammo hoarders already have more than they could shoot up in a lifetime and yet they keep on buying it up.

There's another possible thing at work here, and that may involve the profit motive. Anyone buying excessive amounts of ammo knows full well that the prices are going to sky-rocket. What a great investment to be one of the few places to buy ammo. You can almost name your price.

I agree. Most of the people there just took their one box of what ever ammo and left, but a few guys wanted a lot more. One guy was bitching because he could,t buy cases. I think these guys are planning on reselling the stuff down the road.

i agree Doc... i have a feeling this will continue to go on for a long time. At this point its hoarding. People are freaking out and making it VERY difficult for others to buy ammo. Guys are so scared they just cant stop buying it up. Its like the gas out here on LI when some sort of disaster is coming or even 6" of snow. they all freak out, its unreal.

This year my NRA membership also came with a $25 Bass Pro Shops gift card. I just spent the gift card on ammo. It shipped to my door in 3 days.

i believe its starting to ease the fact Gander got a pallet of 22 and 223 is a sign things are letting up. some reloading supplies are becoming available again. people are begining to realize that $75 a brick for 22's is way out of line and arent paying it, so the buy a case retail, sell it over priced on gun broker is leveling out. be patient it will soon come back around.

Gander mtn had a sign up today that said maximum amount was 10 boxes per day , ill go back tomorrow too.

I hope you're right. The prices weren't too bad. A box of CCI mini mag 22LR was $7.00 (100 rds) and Rem. green and white box 223 was $8.99 (20 rds) At least 3 guys ahead of me asked for 357. The counter guys handed them boxes and they left with them. When they called my number I asked for some 357. Thats when the counter guys realized that they didn't have any 357 and had been handing out 327mag instead .By then the customers were long gone. I think there were some pissed off people the next day, especially with Ganders "no return" policy on ammo.

Obama has recently been trying to sequester most of the federal conservation funds and did succeed, however I am not sure about exactly which ones or if he got any of the PR or DJ funds. Not a good thing in any event, but NY may be disquailified anyway if they dont conform to the law soon...

Heck of a racket. Introduce gun control laws which drive up the demand for ammo, and then a few weeks later, sequester the built in conservation tax...
