New Camera Ideas!

Recommended Posts

Ive always bought the middle of the line trail cameras. i want to get something with a lot better quality than your average camera. The wildgame Cams arent terrible but im sick of blurry images and missed deer. Anyone have any good luck with the Cuddebacks or bushnells? i also see alot of guys on here using covert cameras. What is your opinion?

For commerical cams...

Reconyx. If you are willing to slap $500 to a tree, well, that's your answer. I don't want to do that.

For all else, Covert offers the best bang for the buck. Bushnell and Moultrie are decent players, but in large Covert has the better product AND support.

End of story.

*Edit. I re-read your post. Define "quality" in your initial statement. Reconyx pics are good, but not great.

If i had extra cash just laying around theres no doubt id buy a Reconyx. But for me i have 8mp cameras that are great picture quality. Down side to them is the trigger speed. So i guess what im getting at is im ok with going to in mp to actually get the deer in the picture. most pictures are with 20 or 30 feet anyways on trails and scrapes.

MP is a bit of a misleading feature. 5MP in one cam may be better than a 8MP in another.

If you don't want to spend a ton of money ($500)...then look at MP6 Black, Red 40, or Black 60.

I strongly support legit black flash.

Bought a Cuddeback a few years ago, worst mistke I've made. Never again! Old HCO ScoutGuard was a better cam at the time. Live & learn!

Bushnell had some serious problems with their trail cams in 2010. Trail cam sites gave them bad reviews justly. Have a 2011 model and it is only okay! 2012 & 2013 models are excellent. Could p/u one of the brown 2013 models (#119537) for ~$140+ on ebay in March/April. Could be other sources at that $$ by now, but I've quite looking. From the photos I've seen on the sub-$100 cams, you get what you pay for. Reconyx is at the other end of rediculiousne$$. Just what my experience has been, not promoting BTCs.

Ive had Moultries, and had damn good luck with them for the most part. When they broke down, they were either easily fixable or the company replaced them. My buddy has had 3 Cuddebacks, all have had issues, if you gave me one for free, Id sell it.

I made the switch to real black flash cams this year, and went with the DLC Coverts. I have the Black 60s. Ive read nothing but good reviews on them. Mine are in the woods as we speak, I should have my first pull (video mode on a 2013 model) from one of them this weekend.

I have had a custom built trail camera, which had a sony camera in a very weather tight case.Made from parts from one of the home brew websites. It took halfway decent pictures,I would not buy another one because you could buy 3 or more Trophy Cams for what that camera cost.

I just recently joined here, I am a member on ArcheryTalk and own some land in NY that I like to hunt.  ON AT the big rage is Coverts, they are reasonably priced and great quality and customer service. You can buy 5 of them for the price of a Reconyx and they even have the high end wireless options that will text or email you the pictures.  Every option you could ever want with each model offering great pictures.  I recently became a dealer for them and have been selling them at great prices to build up my base.  If you are interested click on
