MACHINIST
I am looking at getting one,I want a 308 and a pistol grip and just want to know what you guys think about them.I also wouldn't rule out a Winchester 88 either.I just want a HP rifle caliber in a lever. ants
The BLR is a great rifle. I have never owned one but I have shot one a few times (in .308) smooth action and it put rounds through the same hole at 100yds. I guess they're a nightmare to work on though. Pricey. There are actually small gears that mesh, to work the action, and these gears have to be timed. So if the receiver ever has to be taken apart, it can get ugly. MACHINIST
Thanks ants, maybe I should look at the Winny 88 more!!HA
jjb4900
The BLR is a beautiful gun, I was looking for the same for awhile, just never was able to find a .308.........the fact that they were tough to find should tell you something. My father just picked up a pre 64 model 88, nice gun and you could carry it all day, just not what I would consider a tack driver.
Doewhacker
Don't have one but it most likely will be the next rifle I buy. I am considering 7-08 as well as .308.
Early
I have a l960 vintage Winchester 88 in .308...Awesome gun. And, it is a tack driver, thanks to the one-piece stock. The only lever gun I would prefer over it would be the model 88 carbine.
RangerClay
I have a BLR Lightning in .243. I absolutely love the gun and in a couple more years it will be my daughters rifle. Light weight, super smooth action, well balanced, and easy to shoot. I cannot say enough good things.
ny hunter
Great rifle the BLR shot one in 308 very accurate, begged the guy to sell it to me but he would not part with it.
sssurfertim
I have a BLR .308 straight stock, Belgian made was my grandfathers. The gun is so accurate with open sights that I have no need to scope it. Awesome gun for long walks. Also shoot a Winchester 88, and a Sako Finnwolf which is a dream to shoot. Early
When compared...side-by-side with the 88, the BLR is UGLY! And, with it's two piece stock, the BLR cannot compare with the 88 when it comes to accuracy. Plus...the 88 was made in the USA....That's a definite plus!! ants
I kind of prefer the looks of the 88 too. More of an American look IMHO. Both great rifles. Its just a personal preference. Both are harder than hell to find....
sssurfertim
Checkout a Finnwolf, prettier super smooth version of the 88.
MACHINIST
FInnwolf are to much $$$ for me.I have a friend that has a model 88 308 I am going to see if I can borrow to shoot to see how I like it.I just bought a Model 100 in 308 so the 88 would make a great pair. G-Man
Great rife .308 Is good cal in it as well. I'd take it over the 88 anyday. Can be found or ordered in for you.won't be disappointed with it guaranteed.
MACHINIST
Does anyone know if there is a accuracy difference in the takedown model VS. the regular model?I could care less about ever taking it apart, but the pistol grip seems to only come in that configuration in stainless/laminate Edited September 25, 2013 by MACHINIST
melissa4
I use a BLR in 7-08 as my back up gun. Shoots great, one of the smoothest levers I own. Mine's a straight stock and I wish I'd of got the pistol, though they were'nt as available a few years back. As far as the action, it's sought of a lever activated bolt action as the bolt turns and locks against the chamber using locking lugs. Reliability wise I've never had a problem, nor have I heard of any. As far as cleaning, Browning does not recommend you break the rifle down. Just clean carefully from the muzzle, or pick up one of those Otis kits. All I know who own one consider it their best lever, myself included. I'm currently in the market for one in .358 with a pistol grip.
